Good morning! Lightly snowing up at the Canadian border today. I have been wondering, if you care to respond to this question, when and how did you first learn to sew on a sewing machine? Also how much, in your learning about the world of tailoring, is done by hand and how much by machine? By that I mean in the early learning process. To me, and my years purchasing and wearing Linea, this last year with all of its’ stellar tailoring in the Big Deal Classic Blazer and in the V neck collarless zip front tunic jacket , all hit the apex of some of your absolute best designs. And it set me to thinking about when your interest grew in outstanding tailoring and how much you actually sewed on the machine in your early learning years. I made my first lined jacket working on it all night the day before Easter. My mother passed when I was 9 and my father told me subsequent to that if I wanted new clothing as I was growing still at that young age, I could have whatever I wanted to make myself on the old knee pedal Singer my mother left when she died. It was a blessing and a curse !! That Easter it seemed all my friends were getting new clothing for Easter Sunday and I was determined to make a suit!. I NEVER tackled a lining again ๐ And thanks to you and your many talents, training and inspiration, I have a rainbow of perfectly tailored and lined blazers and jackets. A nice gift as my twilight years are upon me, for which I am so grateful! I also have wondered if doing the linings on this TCFabric is possibly easier than other fabrics you have used in the past?
Hi Nancy. We are expecting another snow storm on Thursday but they are already saying it will turn to rain on the coast so I’m not expecting much…….I first learned to sew on a sewing machine when I went to Parson School. My mother sewed as a profession in NYC and did a lot of home sewing too, but actual sewing never really interested me.I also learned how to “hand” tailor a garment in school. We learned how to “feather stitch. Lapels, collars and fronts of jackets, But this was mostly done on men’s wear and very constructed women’s clothing…especially in the 40s and 50s couture when clothes were much more structured. It virtually disappeared for woman’s clothing in the 60s and 70s. Today it is used only for very expensive men’s bespoke clothing, and women’s couture. It takes a long time to feather stitch a garment. Today a lot of the feather stitching has been replace with press on stiffeners.Using shoulder pads and putting them in properly is all part of the tailoring process as well as top stitching. The TCF is so sturdy and has a weight that just sews beautifully. There are definitely certain lining fabrics that are easier to sew and put in a jacket than others, but we used a basic satin lining for the fall and winter and a mate silk like fabric for spring and summer. We have also used stretch fabrics as linings which are always harder to sew. I never liked to sew and wasn’t very good at it. I know very very few successful designers who can sew well. They leave that to the professionals.
Hi Louis, do you have an opinion on purses (bags, whatever they are called now)? I tend to not invest much in my purses. Right now I am using a microfiber one, and I often get ones at Marshalls and places like that that are real leather, but not expensive. I am always afraid to pull the trigger on an expensive bag. I would like one that I could carry this spring and summer that is midsized (not huge, but not a clutch either- I am 5’3″ so something large might be too much). I don’t mind saving up for one (or trying to find a really good one used on eBay), but I don’t want it to be too trendy or have the brand printed all over it. I don’t need links, but if you have an opinion, the brand(s) and general shape/ style of the bag would be helpful. I get overwhelmed and end up deciding that my apparel budget is best spent elsewhere. Thanks!
Good morning Louis
Well itโs a very gloomy day here in the south. Iโm spicing it up by wearing the india pink status print top, but Iโm not sure of necklace choice. Can you offer a couple of suggestions please. Iโm wearing black slacks
thanks
Sarah
Sarah give some time to research this. Off the top of my head, since there isn’t anything in red like the nugget necklace that sold out in red….I thinking to go ethnic….like the Trevi necklace in the Carmine red with the Roma coin necklace…or the colorful African tribe necklace [can’t remember the name]…cut I’ll check it out first.
okay- Iโm wearing the midas in black- Iโm not sure of it. But it is okay dancing around the house to mardi gras top six songs and my favorite hugh laurie /tom jones/irma thomas songโ make a changeโ. How can you not dance…
I do think something longer may be better- just not sure.
looking forward to your suggestions-
Sarah
Dear Sarah….These are my choices to wear with the India Pink tunic. First I will say since I don’t know how tall you are or what size you are or what your taste is, but since you have the Midas necklace I would assume you have an outgoing personality. If it were me I’d wear J478587, the Trevi necklace in the Carmine Red with the J478585 Trevi earring also in the Carmine Red…..I would layer it with the J478581, the Roma coin necklace and with them I would also layer the J478583, the Amalfi necklace that has the Carmine Red beads in it. Now I don’t know if you can handle the three or if you even want to but three necklaces but they are all good on their own with other things and the earring works with all three necklaces….If you bought two it should either be the Trevi with the Roma or the Roma with the Amalfi….These would be my choices. The top is an ethnic print and it can handle coin necklaces…which happen to be my favorites and were all reorders….Remember today is FREE SHIPPING and HANDLING and they are all on sale for President’s Day……a gold sandal would be fun.
Hi Louis –
I feel like you have been our personal designer and stylist. You are so kind answering all the questions we ask. I recently bought a skirt of yours from Poshmark. It is new with tags still in place. It is a knee length pencil skirt. The color is a bronze with square paiettes covering it. I can’t find any bronze shoes. How would you style this skirt? I hope you might remember it. The item number is A-378222. It was a great buy at $50. Thanks for your suggestions.
Hi, that item number is a pair of Katy Perry shoes!
That’s a wrong style number. I just checked QVC and they don’t have any bronze shoes. I really need to see the skirt color. Is it a greenish gold?
I made a mistake. The style number is 37822. It is got more yellow in it. It looks good with the caramel suede jacket and the WK t-Neck. I will try to take a photo and send it to you.
Dear Chrystene….I looked up the skirt on QVC and they still show it. I forgot about that skirt! To me it looks more caramel and less bronze in the pictures…..so with that in mind I think these shoes may work. If you wear the skirt with a black top….maybe tucked in and belted….like WK tank or the mock neck sleeveless and the Big Deal cardigan…the Marc Fisher A371547 in either solid black or “camel” which is actually a caramel and black tiger stripe. It might look very cool with the Tibetan caramel necklace…the A368916 Marc Fisher Taffy snake print sandal may work….again with a black top….A378596, Sam Edleman black strappy sandal…..and the Vince Camuto Seed Brown heel A368310 may blend well too. Those are the only shoes on the Q that I thought could work….If you wanted to go very Bohemian black opaque tights and a shoe boot could work.
Thanks for spending so much time “styling ” my skirt for me. I am going with a number of black tops. Found some fabric dressy sandals. I had forgotten that I have the Blossom necklace in the bronze color. I started playing in my closet and accessories as you alway remind us to do. I have a lot of time on my hands right now. I live in the Dallas suburbs. Totally frozen in. Below temperatures recoded in the last 30 years. Two more days of this. Will be a high of 35 on Friday so maybe we will thaw out!
Louis,
I was looking in my closet and found the embroidered floral skirt in silver just happened to cozy up next to the black and. gray SHADOW JACQUARD JACKET, A251574. Mmm! What do you think?
Thank you!
OOOOH Chris, I love that jacket I always thought it looked like Yohgi Yamamotto or one of the other Japanese avante guard designers. The fabric has a dressy look too….so my vote is yes! with a black top and some fab jewelry.
Thank you! Youโve taught us well on how to put together an outfit from things we already own. I was surprised that the skirt and jacket caught my eye as working together!
I love that jacket and regret missing out on the navy.
Hi Louis,
What do you think of the red/pink india print top and red and turquoise Bedouin necklace together?
Thank you!
Hugs,
Bernadette
Hi Louis,
I thought I was getting the blue in the Bedouin, I ordered the blue, the order status read blue but today the honey arrived. So never mind on the question. I do have the orange the dye skirt so it all works out.
Stay warm!!!
Bernadette
Were did you see the bedouin necklace , would love one!
Items crop up on QVC from time to time. Iโm not totally sure why or where they are coming from but they show up periodically and you have to jump! Good luck!!! ๐
Louis – I just found out that you have left QVC and not by your own volition. Horrified would be an understatement. I have been a fan and customer since your very first show 20 years ago. I have collected whisper knits, leather and suede, ultra suede, woven pants, wonder gauze, lace, sequins and pretty much most of your various collections over the years. My style has always been classic with a bit of an edge and boy have your things fit the bill for me. I have spent several hours today ordering items that are still left in my size before I won’t be able to get them anymore. All of your clients are now left without the level of polish and sophistication that your clothing embodies.
In reading the comments about your sketches, I am wondering if you would consider printing them and making them available. I think that they would be lovely matted and framed and I can think of places in my own home where I would choose to hang them.
I wish you everything wonderful going forward, whether it’s some sort of design endeavor or retirement and travel once the world gets back to normal. Thank you for everything over all these years.
Hi Louis, I have been enjoying all your sketches and information from your time at QVC and before. i just wanted to let you know that Nancy Hornbeck has also been let go. She is very upbeat and serine about it all. Also, have you seen any of the shows on Q2 that are hosted by the vender? Angel and Susan Graver did that last week. It is interesting. I got my first vaccine shot yesterday. My arm is very sore but other than that no other reactions so far. Enjoy your game today and all the good food. that you prepared. Thanks for your caring.
Dear Bev…..I hadn’t heard that Nancy was let go…Did you hear it on her face book….I always loved working with her….There are many others whom should have gone first, but I won’t mention names!..I feel badly that she isn’t making money, but I’m sure in a way it’s a relief to out of there! They don’t treat employees well, nor vendors!!! Things have really changed and I’m not unhappy at all not being associated with them……Here in CT., one of the richest states in the country! I’m still not in the right bracket to get a shot! At 72 I’m still too young!! I have friends who went to Florida just to get vaccinated!……Since I did have Covid at Thanksgiving already [a very mild case], I’m not worrying about it too much….My turn will come. In the mean time I’m being as careful as possible. Actually I thought I was being very careful, but still got the virus anyway!
Yes, she did a short post about a new path and today she did a video and talked about it a little. She does a video every Sunday and talks about different topics…”Sunday Morning With Nancy.” Also, just a fyi…one of my other groups just found out that you are gone. Lol
Hi Louis. I purchased the Loden faux suede jacket. A374426. The moss mock turtleneck that went with it is not available in my size. Can you give me some styling ideas? Thanks
Dear Andrea….I checked to see what is in stock that I would like with that jacket, and I have to say there aren’t many choices…..but….there is one top to my surprise is still avail in many sizes and many colors. A384501, the Moss Crepe top with the wrap pleat neck would be my first choice. I love this top worn with ANY JACKET or cardigan so it would be a useful piece to have. There isn’t an olive type color but the Loden is a great neutral and almost any color works wit it. I love the caramel, black and bisque with the Loden jacket. The caramel with Loden is a nice fall/winter combination, and the Black is super chic with any fall bottom. The Santa Fe necklace in the Loden is the perfect necklace [if it’s still avail???} The Bisque is a nice light color and would look great with a bisque bottom for a column of color. The 385144 Cheetah print in Bisque would be a good option for a little dressier look, but still works with jeans The A384140, WK tank in tobacco, plum and black would all be good with the Loden and a good way to wear the jacket into spring…….I am sure if you shopped your closet and sweaters you would find many different things that work great. Don’t think colors aren’t an option. As I said the Loden is a good neutral and would look great with many colors you may not have thought of like pale butter yellow, lime, fuchsia, magenta, wine, claret red, purple, lilac, sapphire and royal…. etc. etc
Thank you, Louis. Sometimes I get stuck. Thanks to your inspiration I am going to wear it with a wine colored sleeveless TN and tweed pants that have both of those colors (and rain boots because it is yucky here today). I have the wrap shirt in bisque, and I am going to get the caramel one now! I already have the caramel pants.
Oohh. They just cancelled church because of the snow?!?! It’s above freezing and not going to get any colder. Guess I won’t be wearing that outfit today after all.
Andrea, forgive me for butting in with a โsecondโ to Louisโs motion on the first choice he gave you. I have that pleated top in moss crepe and ALL of the colors go beautifully with All of the gorgeous classic blazers in the Trench Coat fabric as well as ALL of the zip front v neck jackets in the same TCFabrics. You canโt go wrong owning any of the 4colors. Bisque might be my choice with your Loden jacket. I scored some over the knee faux suede boots last year and have a pair I what they called โgreyโ. But I am able to pair those with the bisque top with other colors of jacket snd matching skirt.. Yesterday for zoom church, it was bisque blouse with the dark green classic blazer and the deep forest green WK midi skirt from years past. The boots tied it all together over the matching dark forest green Linea tights. Hubby loved it! A nice pin on the jacket lapel and simple necklace was all I needed. Oh yes, loved that with the Linea butter cream stud earrings. You wonโt regret getting those blouses!
Hi Louis. I purchased the Buttercream in this same faux suede jacket. What suggestions do you have for this color?
Dear Vickybliss….you would be surprised at all the ways you can wear your jacket First I would start with columns of one color to wear under it. That’s sometimes easier than mixing color for many ladies. So see what you already own with a sweater and pant that matches or is tonal….like BLACK….grey….navy….khaki….olive….wine….plum…etc etc….then try the jacket over your jeans and see what colors you like with the jacket and jeans…Red with the right accessories can be lots of fun. Do not be intimidated to try different colors. It you start with a navy or espresso or grey pant with your jacket you will see that many colors will look good as a combination….Remember accessories like jewelry and scarves can pull the whole color combination together! The Cowrie shell necklace looks wonderful with the buttercream and browns.
Great ideas! I’ve collected a lot of columns of various colors over the years. I need to use this idea with jackets that I seldom wear. I love the new dark grey. so I’ll start with my dark grey column of color.
Thank you so much. These suggestions are so helpful. ๐
Louis, looking at your archive postings made me appreciate Elaine’s talent to be able to achieve all that your designs required especially all the high end details. It had to be a wonderful and enjoyable relationship for you both. Made me think of your time at Anne Klein. Did you start with a sketch, first or the fabric first? Did you do any draping, to get the line you wanted? Did you have more than one pattern maker? I find the creative process fascinating, sorry I ask so many questions! The world of Seventh Avenue, so completely different than the world of QVC and you were a success in both! Each in their own right being difficult to navigate and maintain a success for as long as you have. The icing on the cake is being the recipient of your talent!…….Cat
Dear Cat….you are right when you say the world of AK and the world of Linea were very different and yet similar…….At Anne Klein the world was my oyster. I could do anything I dreamed of and price was NEVER an issue. I always started with fabric, because the fabric fares in Germany, France and Italy [in that order] always took place before we were finished with the last collection so we were forced to start looking at fabrics. We may have been working on a spring/summer collection at home, but had to switch gears and look at fall winter fabrics for the following year in Europe……After the collect I was working on was completed, and the show took place, I took a week or two weeks off to clear my head, and then dive into the next collection. It was a busy time for Jac so we really couldn’t go anywhere. While all of the samples I order from the different companies arrived they were brought into my very large studio, and I started draping the fabrics on 5 or 6 mannequins to see what worked with what, and what I really loved……Then I started draping on Jac, and then the sketching started. My sketches were given to the heads of each sample room of which I had 3. One was headed by Annie D who did all of the soft clothes….blouses skirts, dresses and evening wear…Annie was an original in more ways than one, a true free spirit with quite a story. She first worked with Anne herself when the company started in 66’…Orfeo was my master tailor who did the jackets, pants and coats…a sweet Italian man with hands and a heart of gold…..Harvey was a master of leather and suede though he could make anything I asked him to. He mastered everything….even evening clothes. One day, as we were discussing a sketch in his room, he showed me a tattoo on his forearm. He asked me if I knew what these series of numbers were. I didn’t know. He told me he was a prisoner in a Nazi camp during WW11, and that the tattoo was given to him at the camp…He was a young boy when he was finally set free. I loved him dearly….I loved all of them dearly, they were with me for 20 years…..we were family. I was 22 when I started at AK….These people taught me everything I know…….,Working with Elaine was another story. There was no draping of fabrics. It was all created from swatches, and it was these swatches that I did my sketches from.. She made ALL of the first patterns along with two other pattern makers, but Elaine made all of the patterns for Linea herself because they were too complicated to give to the others. My first years at Qvc were also like a kid in a candy store. There wasn’t much that I was told Elaine couldn’t do….Of course I knew I was no longer at AK and there were limits, but fabric, emb. and labor were reasonable and not an obstacle….so we were able to make beautiful things….That ended when Darleen Daggot left QVC. All at once things tightened up in China and the candy store was no more. However, with each season we found ways to get around these obstacles. There was a lot of fancy foot work going on, but we did have to make changes. Instead of all the hand embroidered we had to do more machine emb which was less expensive do to reduced labor, so All of my emb. like those on the boucle jackets were done on machine. It wasn’t a great loss because the machines could do a lot. The loss of silk was a big one. It was literally overnight. One day Elaine said design more in silk. It was inexpensive out of China which was the only world source. When China increased taxes and tariffs on it, it became out of our reach. As the years went on it became tighter and tighter…bigger margins at QVC, caused less profits at Lai Apparel. Even though we always maintained our quality, which I think we did brilliantly to the very end. I always laughed at those who said my quality went down. They had no clue. Yes, we were forced to use more synthetics, and so did everyone else….just look what’s in retail stores. THE SEWING and QUALITY of WORKMANSHIP never went down. We use the same factories we started with 20 years ago which was just a hand full. Elaine did try to go to Vietnam one season but she didn’t trust them to be consistent, and she couldn’t afford to have clothes rejected by QVC because of quality. So that experiment ended.I can assuredly say there is absolutely no other vendor who makes a better product than Elaine. I have worked with Elaine and Rowena for 20 years, and like those at Anne Klein….WE TOO ARE FAMILY.
Thank you, Louis, for this wonderful explanation…and it just reinforces that no one walks alone on the road to success!
Louis, thanks for sharing these stories. They are fascinating, as Cat said. You really do need to write a book!
Louis. thank you so very much for taking the time to allow me as well as the rest of us into your creative world. The fact that your teams both AK and Linea remained with you as well as loyal to you speaks volumes. I love hearing your stories, it brings back golden memories of a time that no longer exists………….a wonderful visit for me……………..Cat
Your history is fascinating. The challenges at the Q couldnโt have been managed without your extensive experience. I love Linea because of the quality. Thank you so very much for hanging in there with a changing and challenging work place. Each Linea lady has benefited. The clothing lines that remain are not Linea and it is obvious that they donโt want to be. Mass taste and mass production seem to rule. Blessings.
Carolyn….you hit the nail on the head….mass taste….mass market. I guess it’s a money making strategy that works….the KMart strategy. When I first started at QVC they wanted me because I brought a higher taste level and a sense of fashion to a very stale lineup…..Now they want the opposite. Tops and bottoms that go to 5x.
Louis
I flew to Florida this past weekend for a 50th wedding anniversary party. I wore your Linea Ivory Blazer with pearl/gold buttons with your matching ivory Linea petite fly front pantsI I own that blazer/pants in both the black as well as ivory. What a great pants suit! This was the first time I had worn the ivory iteration. I had forgotten about the flattering cut away front. Due to pandemic it had been awhile since I had worn black version. Louis, every time I put on one of my Linea outfits, I am so appreciative of your suoerlative design skills, tailoring and superb taste. Thank you
Hello Louis. I follow Antonella Nestor online and always loved when she hosted your shows as you dressed her so well. She always looks so gorgeous in your clothes. The one time she had on the the pale pink tulip sleeve blouse with black pants and looked devine. Another time she was dressed in the ombre top in the blues and alabaster with white pants and the long coin necklace on. She looked so summery and just great. In case you do not know, she was uncerimoniously fired from QVC after 18 years. Her husband lost his job about the same time so they decided to sell their big beautiful home. I took a tour on her page and it is a beautiful home. Her husband aquired a sailboat and worked on it refurbishing it with the idea they would sell the home and sail up and down the coast docking in different places. All things are up in the air as she was losing weight and sleeping all the time and then found a lump in her upper arm. She recently had a biopsy and has been diagnosed with the possibility of either a blood cancer, non-hodgkin lymphoma or leukemia I think she said. There is some discrepancy and she sees another specialist this week to find out what type it is exactly. in the meantime, their home that they thought had sold did not. The deal fell through for the buyers who she said she felt so sorry for because they really wanted her home. So the house is now on the market again, but it doesn’t end there, today she had a further update and was given an appointment for further testing, had a mammogram and ultrasound and a lump was discovered in her breast. Now she has to go in for a biopsy on that. She is handling all this with her usual light hearted sweet personality but I cannot help but feeling so sorry for her to go through all this. As she says everything is up in the air in her life. I just thought I would let you know as you always made her feel so good about herself and it showed in your shows you did together. Take care.
Dear Bebe….do we know each other? Are you a personal friend of Antonella’s? All of this news is extremely distressing! She is one of the sweetest ladies I have had the pleasure of knowing…With Antonella what you see is what you get. She did her very first hosting job at QVC with me, and we were fast friends from that moment on. We have many things in common including being dismissed from QVC. If you are in touch with her PLEASE send her my LOVE!
Good Morning Louis. I am a Facebook friend with Antonella and started watching her cooking videos on You Tube. She makes some great Italian recipes. From there she gave everyone the tour of her husband and her working on the sailboat and it was all very interesting and fun. However in December things took a turn when she updated everyone on her page with the news she had to have a biopsy on her arm. She received such a groundswell of support and is very open on sharing her journey and updating everyone on her situation. She is such a trooper and people love her for her honesty and just being herself. She has said she has received such comfort from reading all the posts as many people are on a similar journey as her or have been through it already and are back to a normal life. I just wish her all the best. She is a genuinely good person and deserves the best. That is so interesting that she did her first hosting job with you! No wonder I sensed a genuine connection between you in the shows I watched with her hosting. You definitely can make a woman feel special about herself and that is a gift! Thank you Louis! And lets all say a prayer for Antonella wishing her all good things.
Dear Bebe….thank you for updating me…..I always felt badly that Antonella and I never got the chance to say good bye or give each other a big hug. QVC fires you with no warning and you disappear. After your message I went to Antonella’s face book and left her a message. I truly wish I could give her that hug in person!
Oh Louis I am so glad you were able to reach out to Antonella. I am sure it will make her day! All the best to you!
My greyTriple Strand Beaded Necklace is finally being shipped and the grey Fez Medallion Necklace is sold out. What other necklaces would you put with the grey triple strand? Thank you
I just looked at the jewelry in inventory and unfortunately there really isn’t anything I would feel comfortable suggesting going with your triple strand. Every time I look there is less and less.
Thank you, I’ll play with my silver tone pieces I have when it comes.
Sarah, I hope you are getting your grey triple strand necklace.
I always wondered why some many people got the anonymous tag. I understand now that one get so tie up with the message that they forget to fill in the boxes; so their post becomes anonymous.
hi Vicky
It is on its way and supposed to be here next week.
Sarah
I’m so happy for you; enjoy….
Dear Louis, I received the replacement loop today. Please thank Cathy for me. Instead of just putting the loop in an envelope I received two loops in a jewelry bag enclosed in a Linea box. So very thoughtful and kind. A fine example of everything and everyone associated with the Linea brand is first class!
Thanks again!
Ginny
Louis, I am wondering if a lot of “copying” goes on in your industry and what ways, if any, are employed in getting that not to happen. And yes I know about imitation being a form of compliment. I always thought that was a bogus notion.
Dear Nancy….copying has gone on for ages. After WW11 and the fashion houses of Paris reopened….American clothing companies went over just to copy what they were doing. They used very sneaky means to get the designs. Some even had deals with American and French FASHION EDITORS who had direct access. It got so bad that the French companies made deals to sell the designs a season later. It is common for med. range and lower priced clothing companies to copy designer lines. The CFDA [Council Of Fashion Designers of America] tried many years ago to have laws protecting creative rights, but it never got anywhere. It’s a common practice to be “influenced” by designers.I don’t know one designer living or dead that hasn’t been influenced by Chanel.
Wow. Did you learn early how to not let that bother you?
Yes Nancy, By the time they copied we had already moved on…However, there was an editor from either Vogue or Harper’s that was know to go around to the different designers while the collections were still being developed, and then would report back to a certain designer that we all knew who it was. If she told him short skirts or long skirts were the strong trend, he would change all of his skirts. She was slowly uninvited into the back rooms and could only come to the shows.
By the way, I see that a one hour Linea show is scheduled for February 13th at 2:00am.
Also a Linea Show on March3 at 2:00 a.m.
Louis – You have given us so many beautiful outfits to wear to get our vaccines, The big deal is perfect. Just drop the cardigan off the shoulder and your ready with the sleeveless turtleneck underneath! The shirts ant matching tanks are great, too. By the way, I havenโt gotten the vaccine yet! I have time on my hands so after my hours of writing to hospitals and doctors, I plan outfits. I did get a call and if the snow stops Iโll get to the hospital for my appointment. Fingers crossed!
Ann I had the vaccine yesterday ! I wore the outfit you are describing. It was so easy to get the shot. I already have my Linea outfit in mind for #2 in 1 month. How wonderful to get the joy that these lovely fashions bring during these challenging times. Good luck in getting your vaccine today !
& thank you Louis !!
Ann – I too wore my sleeveless grey turtleneck, slacks and matching grey cardigan on Saturday when I received my vaccine! My jewelry was Linea as well, the beautiful double strand large beads in dark grey from several years ago!

Sorry for the duplicate reply. Unable to cancel.
Thanks for that idea. Now I know what I’m wearing tomorrow when I go to the county high school to get my 2nd Moderna vaccine. The first shot I received while sitting in my car after a 2.5 hour wait. LOL.
ย Dear Louis,
Thank you so very much for taking the time to post the information on your past creations. It is a dream-come-true to get to see them. Please continue to share them with us.
Some ladies were sharing their thoughts about your line in the “My Favorite Brand” section on the QVC site. I posted these comments there.
“The styling of Louis’ garments was impeccable and well executed–no matter what fabrics were used. Whisper Knits, faux suedes, pontes, faux silks, boucles, hopsacking, crepes (gauze, moss), and everything else are real treasures in my wardrobe–with no equals, I might add.
Louis always put such thought into his garments and his jewelry. He is the most customer-focused designer I ever have seen. He actually wanted to know what colors we wanted and tried to make those choices happen.
God bless Louis in whatever path he decides to take from here on out. I totally support him and am grateful for all he has done for all of us. Let’s be sure to be there for him like he has been there for us.”
Hi Louis, Thank you for keeping this blog up. I consult it almost daily to figure out how to style different pieces to get the most use out of things instead of always wearing the same things the same way. I now have a drawer full of Linea jewelry that I have bought within the past 6 months. I had almost no “fashion” jewelry and now I get compliments because the jewelry helps tie my new outfits together. Friday night, I wore the multi strand silver bracelet, and my knife got “stuck” to it unawares as I was talking to the waitress! Everyone had a much needed laugh (a strong drink might have been involved).
I hope you can keep the blog up, or give us some notice, so I can print some pages! This morning I was looking at your post on the ruffle cardigan. Your post mentioned that if we had a sleeveless dress that we had put away, the ruffle cardigan could be wonderful over it. I realized that I had a sleeveless navy dress that my navy ruffle cardigan is perfect for. I purchased four jewelry items last weekend and can’t wait to get them! I am still considering more, but I have to pace myself (24 Linea purchases since August). I have not regretted any purchases, though.
Dear Andrea, I realize it’s a lot to buy all at once. If the line were continuing then there wouldn’t be such a rush, but unfortunately nothing else is coming so what ever is still avail. that’s it. Think of it this way…..you won’t be buying anything else coming.
Dear Louis,
I ordered the trench coat (A374663) in denim blue and love it. I own the bisque color in the perfect riding jacket (A384508), is the tan color the same in the trench coat? Also, the plum color in the riding jacket (A384508) looks different to me on this site compared to QVC. Does this plum have a pink cool undertone or a warm undertone for autumn color charts?
I ordered the (A384499) Boucle V-Neck Jacket & it did not work for me, it was too thick. Is (A385145) the Plaid Blazer thinner?
I purchased the blazer (A343162) in caramel color and the navy color for future job interviews. Plus, I love the faux suede pants, trench coat and shorter jacket all in loden. I’m ordering everything I can.:)
Thank you for your assistance and all the beautiful jackets, whisper knit tanks/tops and beautiful blouses!
Dear Renee. I understand you ordered the gauze trench coat in the denim blue, and the Bisque in the TCF riding jacket but I don’t understand what tan color you are referring to?…..The Plum is so dark I’m not sure how to answer you. It’s definitely not brown so I guess it has pink undertones. Maybe some of the Ladies that own the Plum, whether in the riding jacket or WK pieces can answer you. The knit and the jacket are very close. The plaid is definitely lighter than the boucle.
Dear Louis. The Gauze Crepe Trench Coat Unlined states it comes in a light tan color, is that color close to or the same as the bisque color? I try to purchase colors that are in the Color Me Beautiful color chart of autumn colors in tops and jackets. Thank you for answering my questions and have a wonderful week!
Hi Renee,
I took a look at the autumn color chart and there was a plum swatch that looked very close to the color of the riding jacket. I think you would like it. Itโs a beautiful color. No brown undertones, but not really pink either. I am a spring, warm undertones, blonde hair with strawberry tones and it works for me.
I also got the light tan color in the trench and cargo pants. I too was uncertain how the color would look on me. But it works and probably will for you, especially if you wear the right color underneath it. I donโt have the bisque riding jacket to compare it to. I do have the bisque cardigan so could compare it to that if you want tomorrow.
Both pieces are really nice and not to be missed, so if your size is available Iโd get it while you can. ๐
Hi Melissa, That would be great to compare your cardigan. I think bisque is a bit lighter, but was not sure by looking online. Some plums look horrible on me, it is hard with purple colors. If you are a spring color chart, I should be fine since I can wear some spring colors. Thank you for helping. ๐
Hi Renee,
I own the tan trench coat and the bisque riding jacket. The bisque jacket is slightly lighter and brighter than the trench coat-close in color, but not an exact match. The plum is very rich, dark, and sophisticated. So dark it is really a neutral like black. I have fair skin, light blue eyes, and brown hair , and love this color though I usually choose much lighter colors for my wardrobe. I hope this helps!
Dear Renee, I hope the ladies comments helped. The Bisque is definitely lighter and brighter than the Khaki trench. They are both very neutral
Hello! I ordered the tan trench & cargo pants along with the plum jacket & skirt. Thank you for all your help and have a wonderful week Louis, Melissa and Sharon!
Louis, All of your sketches are bringing back fond memories.I remember so many of these beautiful pieces. Some of which I own. It makes me so happy to see these sketches & yet at the same time so sad. Is there any way at all that you could continue designing for us? Perhaps another network or directly through a website. I know you said Elaine was retiring .Is there any way the two of you could come together to make this happen?
Dear Evelyn, I’m afraid not. With costs rising and profits shrinking you have to be a BIG business with many divisions under the umbrella….These companies are all about the bottom line. They have no interest in the product and want to make the biggest volume and least expensive product. Quality is at a minimum….just good enough to pass muster. I’m not interested in doing that or working for one of these companies. They wouldn’t hire me anyway. I’m way to over qualified and expensive for them. They have unknown design teams that crank it out and don’t cost too much.
OMG, Louis, my Plum Tibetan earrings thatโs a perfect
match for my Plum Moderne necklace have already gone to back order. Can you see if more are coming, please?
Sorry Cela, but nothing else is in production or coming in. We are finished manufacturing jewelry. What ever is in inventory is the last of it.

Dear Louis, Our daughter’s 50th birthday was on January 25, and we wanted to get her something special. Last June we bought your silver anniversary bracelet, and we couldn’t wait to give it to her. The sentiment on the bracelet was perfect, expressing our feelings about our daughter. She absolutely loved it. Just want you to know what a perfect gift it was. Thanks, Louis!
Dear Eileen….I am so pleased you found just the right thing to give to your daughter, and better yet….she loved it. It is so hard to find a present that has lasting meaning and just not a disposable greeting card. This is something she will have for the rest of her life, and when she wears it it will always remind her of you and your husband.
Louis
Hi- I just checked my order status for my recent items and noticed that the grey triple strand beaded necklace has gone to backorder. I ordered the fez to go with it. I donโt understand how they can oversell the inventory and disappoint us.
Do you think Cathy will be getting anymore in stock? I ordered after I heard your lovely description in the video. I also ordered the black set after seeing Karenโs signature look.
thanks for checking
Sarah
My grey set went on backorder and is now processing again. So don’t give up hope:)
thanks Vicky
Louis, I had a doctor appointment this morning. As I was was waiting for the nurse to call me back, a man (complete stranger) told me what a nice blazer I had on and how good it looked on me. He commented that he had worked in the fashion industry and appreciated quality. I was wearing the TCF blazer in caramel.
I want to add my thanks to you for creating such lovely clothes. Your clothes help me to feel good about myself. You will be missed, but you will be in my thoughts each time that I wear a piece of your clothing – which will be often. You are in my prayers as you prepare for your future endeavors. I know you will be successful in whatever you choose to do…much love and many thanks.
Hi Louis, I finally received my scarlet red zip front jacket (A389959) and put it with my red woven pants and I love the look. I also added my yellow Chatelain Tac-Pin in yellow that pulled the reds together in my eyes….I just noticed that there are two different but close red stones in the pin…what an aha moment. I am so happy with everything I ever purchased from your line which is quite a bit, so colorful and timeless. With all these zoom meetings I’ve been attending for work I must say between my Linea scarves, jewelry, blouses, jackets and sweaters I look absolutely fabulous from the waist up…LOL.
Anonymous is me luvitorleaveit!
Dear Louis – I awoke early and am grateful I checked your blog. All of your items, clothing and jewelry, appear to be on sale plus no S&H. It was with joy and sadness I filled my cart.
When I discovered you on the Q, I knew quality, fabrics and tailoring but could not assemble an outfit unless I copied it. My mother was an easy elegant woman and I loved watching her dress. She did it so easily. She left too soon and I was too young to understand how she did it. Iโve bumbled about attempting to dress all of my adult life until you. I watched every Linea show and listened carefully and started ordering. My closet is now Linea with workable capsules. That is what my mother knew – she knew what a capsule was and how to work it. Now I do too. Thank you. You gave me the gift that my mother could not. I will never forget you and I hope you donโt completely retire (Iโm being self centered here) as I want more – if not designing, maybe a seasonal blog clueing is in about what to expect in the coming season? It is with love and deep appreciation that I say thank you.
Well Said Carolyn. Before Louis I had absolutely no idea what I was doing when buying clothes. The loss of Louis on QVC is absolutely heartbreaking.
A lot of the jewelry is 25% off right now!
Ladies
If you want to see on a model the new Tibetan necklace look at video for A385144 and for the Mobile pendant necklace look at video for A384151. These are both on sale-
Sarah
Thanks, Sarah!
Tibetan Necklace looks so great! I own that blouse. But what I think it will really look great on is a black turtleneck.
Louis you know that your devoted fans are heartbroken that you have terminated your relationship with QVC. With that in mind I purchased a cardigan from another channel. Something about that item nagged at my brain. I tried it on and was not thrilled. I put it aside for further consideration. As I was enjoying your blog and visiting all your past designs, there it was, a similar, albeit superior cardigan to the one I had just purchased. Then I realized why the cardigan was puzzling me. But did I purchase the original? I couldnโt remember. I went to a drawer that contained my beloved wk pants, dresses, skirts that donโt get as much rotation as my turtlenecks and tops worn during this horrid pandemic. And there it was, as elegant and beautiful as ever! I immediately packed up the imposter for return! The cardigan was A267883, the color block cardigan. Iโm a happy girl, but still sad youโre leaving us. I have been stocking up on whatever I missed while I can.
Barbara…..I remember the cardigan well. I think you should shop your draws and closets….LOL……to be accurate, I didn’t terminate my relationship with QVC….they terminated it with me.
Dear Louis, Iโm sorry that my words incorrectly implied that it was your choice to leave, Let me correct my words. I am so sorry that QVC has terminated your relationship with them. You will be sorely missed by all of us who loved your talent for making women feel and look beautiful with your creative designs in apparel and jewelry.
Hi Louis, the elastic band on the eyeglass/mask chain broke that I purchased last month. Would the jewelry repair service be able to supply me with a replacement band?
Thank you,
Ginny
I’ll check.
Dear Ginny…..Cathy was able to get the elastic loop for you….Where should we have it sent?
Thatโs wonderful Louis. Thank you so much.
She can mail the loop to my home. Is there an email address I can send her my address?
Ginny, just post it here I will forward to TCJC and then delete your post.
Ginny….what color is your chain that you need the loop for?
Louis,
My chain is Gunmetal.
Thank you again for helping me.
You are simply the best!
Ginny
Ginny….it’s being sent out today.
Thank you again Louis. Iโm truly touched that you would take time to help me with such a small item. I have been busy ordering off of my wish list (6 items last week). Iโm still in a state of disbelief that there wonโt be any more Linea.
God Bless you and please stay safe and healthy.
Ginny
Louis: yet again a Huge Thank You . This time for your archives here. Iโm passing a kidney stone today – I have a congenital condition prone to these. – and am in bed all day. What a wonderful time I have had in the archives. I pick a random year. It happened to be 2016, the year our 36 yr old son passed from cancer . Since he ALWAYS complimented me in Linea it was a sweet – NOT a sad couple of hours reminiscing. Of course I LOVED all the designs and wished I had bought more, but I also thoroughly enjoyed your write ups, relearned some things I had forgotten, fell in love again with jewelery pieces I forgot were in my collection, loved your flowers of that year, and more. But I am particularly writing about the beautiful tribute you wrote to your father on Fatherโs Day that year. You have not said a lot about him – I remember more of what you have told us about your mother. And also Jac!s mother. . What a sweet beautiful tribute! I cannot praise enough your decision of keeping these archived photos and written descriptions on this site open to us. This is a fabulous history of your timeless designs as well as your daily life at the time. Now that I have visited all of 2016, I will go further back to after photography became part of the site.. Of course I LOVE your drawings as well and am reminded again and again of your many talents, but I love the photos of how you styled the pieces and what jewelery you featured. Please keep these archives open to us forever ๐. ๐
Nancy a kidney stone!?…..I’ve never had one but I’ve heard they can be painful!I’m glad my archives can give you some diversion!
๐ Thanks for the good laugh. Intensely painful but a therapeutic diversion to be sure!!!!
Dear Nancy…..I have to thank you for bringing to attention my Father’s Day post. I probably would never have gone there. I went back to read it and the memories of those days and evenings were as clear as if they just happened. I remember the bottle of the Raspberry brandy! To tell the truth I sometimes went back to that bottle when no one was home, and took down one of the cordial glasses and had a glass. I don’t think my Dad ever realized the level of liquor was going down….at least he never mentioned it. If he did notice he wouldn’t have been angry anyway. He used to give me his red wine mixed with water for dinner. I felt very grown up……….Right above the post to my Dad was my tribute to Bill Cunningham. It was so nice to re-read what I wrote. He was a wonderful man…a true icon…..a one of a kind human beings…..As I said in the tribute….when ever I’m in NYC around 5th and 57th, which I often am [my dentist is there on 59th and Central Park South]. I forget Bill is no longer with us and look for him at his usual spots…..and then I remember…………….or maybe I just missed him and he’s off scouting other locations
Nancy, feel better soon! I will pray that it passes quickly. Iโve never had a stone either, but watched a close friend go through it and she said that she would rather deliver a baby without any meds once a day for the rest of her life than pass a stone once. I drank more water after she said that!
I am sorry to hear about your son, but glad that you were remembering lovely times today. Love and hugs to you!
Thank you Karen. That is very kind of you to offer encouragement. Besides my own congenital issue which has made me very aware of how important those kidneys are, and watching another son of ours, now over 50 and getting ready for kidney transplant as his very aggressive type 2 diabetes has slowly but permanently destroyed his kidneys…..I urge all to take a long hard think about the health of your kidneys and take good care of them. Cutting the sugars certainly helps them. Sugar molecules have essentially shredded his kidneys as his doctors describe it. There are a lot of factors to consider in taking good care of those precious kidneys. It pays to learn more. After the intensity of kidney stones became a big wake up call for me, I cannot see a passing ambulance, lights flashing and siren blaring, without praying for whomever the stranger is inside. They may not be having a kidney stone but I know it is usually extreme pain that puts you in an ambulance. Would not wish anyone to experience that… and Thank God for EMT’s !
Nancy, I hope you are feeling a bit better today! I am taking your advice on taking care of our kidneys to heart. I learned this past year that I probably had a kidney infection for quite a long time, but did not realize it. I think I just ignored my body as my 2nd son was going through a serious medical issue. I regularly get labs, but i guess kidney infections donโt always show up. My wonderful integrative MD put me on homeopathy and herbs/supplements. I am getting it checked again as I think it has sneakily come back. I have been looking up herbal teas and infusions to make and nourish my kidneys. I have a feeling I should cut out coffee, but that is a difficult thought!
I pray that your son gets his transplant and everything goes well for him. I know how much stress it is on us mothers when our children are ill. No matter how old they get, they are still our babies. Take care and hugs to you.
Thereโs Free Shipping on everything.

Hi Louis, if I ordered a size 28, could it be sized down to a 18 by a seamstress? Item number A366195. Thank you.
Renee…that sounds extreme to me…..best to ask a seamstress and show her the picture…..it would have to be remade.
Just got the plum skirt. What color stockings would you suggest to go with this? Thank you.
Dear Vickybliss….it can depend on the shoe and time of year, but I really like the sheer smoke [I think that’s the name we gave it. It’s 3 pack of sheer nude, black and the grey. Of course the nude would work too, but I think the grey is best.
Louis, What color is the chain on the multi mobile necklace?
Thank you!
It’s silver Chris…..you can see it in the photos of my most recent post. Just scan over the pics and they will enlarge.
Hi Louis, Just wanted to let you know that your last 4 pieces of jewelry have posted on QVC. I now have to decide which ones I want to add to my collection. I love the multi Mobile Pendant and will be adding that one for sure.
Thanks Bev for the heads up…..I had no idea!
Hi Louis, I just got a bunch of stuff I ordered last week. I love it all! I know you said that structured blazers ideally should be dry cleaned and not machine washed. Does the same apply to the shantung and the faux suede jacket (the shorter one)? Thanks.
Dear Andrea….I know many women wash the faux suede and are happy with the outcome. Since it’s not really a tailored jacket I think that would be fine. I’m not sure about the shantung jacket, but how many times a year would you dry clean it anyway….maybe two?
Louis, Just thought I would let you know that I purchased and now have a SECOND navy blazer in the fantastic TCFabric. I waited so long for a perfect blazer in Linea Navy and I did NOT want to ever be without this gorgeous piece. I’m shopping defensively now that the line will be coming to an end. To my taste no other blazer you have made in different fabrics comes close to the TCF version. JAC was so right about that fabric added to your consummate design skills.
Nancy…you can absolutely thank Jac for the blazer in the TCF! My mind set was it was a coat fabric since the first thing in designed in it was a coat. When she said I should do a blazer in it and i asked her if she didn’t think it was too heavy she quickly answered when she did the fitting for Armani’s collection he had jackets that were heavier I knew she was right. It was the first jacket of many, and if I were still at the Q I would of had a new jacket in the fabric every season…..,.,so I’m glad you doubled on the the navy. Did you get the vivid pink? It truly is a beautiful color.
I sure did. ๐ I did not miss a color except in the sapphire which sold out quickly in the V neck zip front jacket. But I did have that color in the shantung. Also have a couple of the trench. Louis you and I know this fabric will wear well! I will have these gorgeous jackets for YEARS! Enjoying them all the while. If they languish for a while on the warehouse shelves I MAY get moved upon to get a second of another color though nothing will be quite the workhorse in my life as the navy. Thank You enormously for the stellar work on these gorgeous blazers and jackets!
Butting in here, Nancy, totally uninvited, but I have sometimes bought two of the same color of cardigan so I could have one “everyday” version, and then changed out the buttons to have a more “uptown” version. I think that navy TCF could pimp up nicely with some fancy buttons. Just an idea.
Gold, Silver or Pearl buttons would be beautiful
Nancy what colors do you have in the double zip topper and the riding jackets?
Louis I have all colors of that gorgeous riding jacket which fits to a tee in size 16, Have all colors but sapphire in the zip front again in 16. Whereas the blazer is perfect in 18 considering sweaters etc underneath when needed. Before you ask ๐, both of the choices in 16 in the tartan plaid jacket are also part of the backbone of my wardrobe. I had poor luck on the boucle V neck collarless jacket. The picture at QVC really threw me off. I studied the Click Here measurements and ordered a 14, fearing it was too loose on the model. It was infinitely too small, particularly in the arms. So I tried again in the 16. Which took weeks and weeks and finally I got a notice from my local post office the contents were stolen in transit. They received an empty ripped up discarded box. So I tried 1 last time. The 3rd order arrived after another long wait. Over 10 days from shipping but it finally arrived on the 16th day from shipping. It is still somewhat tight in arms and arm hole but roomy around the body though has a nice fitted look when buttoned. Iโm keeping it in the bisque and grey as roomy around the body does not translate up to trying a larger size. To me, the change over to the TCF choices was a God send after I lost all my weight. For my taste only since many love them, the ponte tailored jackets donโt come close to the perfection in this last seasons tailored options in TCF. Again thanks to Jac! Also thanks to Linea friends and you Louis for button suggestions when I have doubles ๐
Hello Louis, Wow! Thank you for posting items from your shows. One of the many items from your May ’03, show that I have and love and still wear is the crinkle silk georgette tunic in the large palm print. I have it in the aqua and taupe. I love it. You’re right: the FUJI SILK tunic is so soft and flowy on the body. The fabric has a sand washed finish that makes it feel like talc and it is just wonderful to wear and still feels incredible on the body. Louis, I hope and pray that you will be back somewhere to offer your excellently designed fashions. In the meantime, know that you are in our prayers and sending you love and all good wishes to you Louis, from Irene . . . P.S. You’re the Top!
Louis thinking of you today and was hoping you could please give me some color advice. I recently purchased your Linea by Louis Dell ‘Olio Gauze Crepe Blazer in dark khaki. This is a new color for me. I like it with black wk mock neck and my black jeans. It also seems to look nice with navy wk top and navy denim jeans. What are your thoughts about Linea scarlet red with dark khaki?
With my Asian complexion I tend to look best in stronger clear colors. Your ideas would be most helpful. Thank you.
Dear Yoko….I know you have been posting a long time and I always wondered what nationality you was? I knew two other women named Yoko….both were beautiful models that I used in my Anne Klein shows. One was Japanese and the other one’s family was from eastern Europe…….If you keep the bottoms neutral and that can be anything from black, navy, dark olive to light tan and ivory for starters…..you can wear any up beat color from lime to Aqua, bright blue, and turquoise……orange, coral and sangria, fuchsia, hot pink or anything in the brighter pink family. Of course sage and beige and ivory tops would always work…..Your accessories will help pull it together even if it’s just gold and silver. Sometimes your accessories, scarves and jewelry will help choosing a color…..the GYPSY COIN NECKLACE comes to mind which would look fantastic with that blazer with a tobacco or sienna top. If you can wear earth tones like browns and dk olives they would work too. In the summer you could try pastels like pale yellow, chambray blue and perfectly pink or a bluer pale pink. Yoko there really are many possibilities. You just have to PLAY…..sometimes the most unexpected colors become your favorite combinations……for example the pine tank with the Khaki would look very chic!
Louis is Yoko again, I do not know why my earlier response to you shows me as Anonymous. I think you will know from the additional questions it was me.
Louis thank you for your thoughtful advice. How kind of you to remember me. I am Japanese and live in San Francisco. I will look into the options you suggested. I do own the pine wk tank. I like it with my jade accessories. I would never have considered this option with the jacket. Iโm smiling.
One last question please, do you think the dark forest green also can go with dark khaki crepe blazer? I love your faux suede pants. I find them perfect for our climate and polished enough for business yet great with my chucks for everyday. I think you have maybe been to San Francisco so you know our weather and vibe. The blazer is light weight and the faux suede is a heavier material. I wonder does that work or not? This blazer is 4 seasons for SF. I wonder if the two different fabric weights go together?
Yoko…..you can absolutely wear the suede pant with the crepe jacket and the forest green should look good with the Dk Khaki, I’ve been to San Fran many times and know the unusual weather patterns with the Marine cover etc.
Dear Mr. Dell’Olio, Is the crystal color in A384511 a white or more of an ivory color? I will miss your presentations and beautiful clothing on QVC! You are the number one designer and I want to thank you for all the years of providing me outfits! I wish you all the joy and happiness!
Renee…it’s more white than ivory, but not an optic white
Thank you!
Dear Louis,
Are you leaving QVC?
Iโm seeing different comments but do not know if it is true.
I sure hope not!
Cheers to fabulous you and wishing you a Happy and Healthy 2021.
Dear Lisa Ann, yes it is true. Not my choice. If you look at a past post “A letter to my Dear Friends”, it explains the whole thing.
I am truly devastated!!!
QVC is making a big mistake and alienating your loyal customers.
Your classic, sophisticated, elegant designs are beyond reproach. The quality, craftsmanship and attention to detail in your designs for clothing and jewelry is unmatchable.
You truly understand a womanโs body no matter her size and how to make her look like Million Bucks from head to toe!!!
No other designer on QVC offers your level of sophistication.
So thankful I have a closet full of your designs and jewelry I will cherish!
You are a master designer of true integrity, knowledge, passion and sophistication.
Thank you Louis! โค๏ธ
Lisa Ann, the more I think about it the more puzzling it is to me since NO ONE on QVC comes close to doing what I did, and some of the new vendors are so expensive their volumne can not be big. I know how QVC works with new vendors. They are on trial….they wait to see how they sell and what the returns are.
Dear Louis,
It is so puzzling. As you stated NO ONE on QVC comes close to what you do.
I sure hope they realize what a mistake they have made. 20 years on QVC is a testament to you and your incredible talents!
Didnโt QVC pull something similar after your 10th Anniversary in 2010?
Is there anything we can do as your loyal customers to join together to turn this situation around?
Yes, they did Lisa Anne…..that was just as puzzling…..especially since 2 weeks before they pulled the plug we had a meeting at Elaine’s show room at Lai Apparel and they told us how wonderful the business was doing! Then they called another meeting and told us it was over.Elaine and I were shocked. We had our suspicions. They obviously need the air time and $$$$$ for someone else, and took it from me. Since my business was doing great that’s the only reason we could come up with?. It was the Ladies uproar!!!!! that shocked them and in less than a week they asked me back……..There is nothing to be done this time. Elaine is going to close her business and without her I would never want to continue.
Dear Louis,
Just so heartbreaking!
So many lives and businesses affected by their decision.
It seems like QVC is trying to figure out who they are and what they want to be during these crazy times…..trying to gain new customers and while alienating some of their core customers . To me they have lost their way and are grasping at straws hoping something sticks. I personally think they stretched themselves too thin in purchasing HSN.
I remember when Talbots purchased J Jill and the company nearly tank…..and they closed their Kids and Menโs divisions.
I sure hope something exciting and wonderful is around the corner…..You deserve only โTHE VERY BESTโ.
You bring so much joy and honesty to us.

Louis will twisted sister in the Gold/Wine blend with my Port collection? If not which garment color do you suggest.?Thanks
Dear Barbara….”blend” is the word. I LOVE this color on anything as a fabulous accent to mallard, olive, purple etc.. Of course on wines, golden colors like tobaccos [the tobacco WK tank], and rusts it looks fabulous, but it looks just as good on navy, grey, browns etc. I have to say of the three colors offered, even though I loved them all, the gold/wine was my favorite because it always reminded me of Belle Wattling in “Gone with the Wind”. When Rhett was with her complaining about Scarlet, Belle was wearing a wine and gold gown with a Tiara with amber beads…..it was the inspiration for this combination…..You really have to play putting the necklace on all different solid colors, and see what appeals to you.If you like it…it works! It’s definitely a piece worth having ….it’s beautiful and you will never find anything like it. I have been looking at other jewelry collections. but not QVC because IMHO nothing compares to the quality or uniqueness of the Linea jewelry. I’ve looked at other catalogs from stores or just on line and for the most part it all looks commercial and not special.
Thank you Louis. Itโs my favorite of the three color choices Iโll try your suggestions.
Hi Louis,
Iโm hoping you or one of the ladies can point me in the right direction… I need sizing guidance on A378727, Linea by Louis Dell’Olio Petite Fly Front Pants. I have the A302547, Linea by Louis Dell’Olio Petite Boot Leg Pants but had to go one size up from my normal. Do the fly front pants fit the same as the boot leg pants?
Thank you,
Bernadette ๐ค
Hi Bernadette, I am not Louis, but I thought I would let you know my experience. I have the petite fly front pants, and I have them in a size 8 petite. I donโt have the other pants that you were talking about but in the super ponte pants I can wear a size 10 petite and sometimes a size 8 petite. The fly front pants are looser through the hips and may be a little more snug through the waist. But, the waist has elastic so I would think you would not need to size up in the fly front pants.
Hi Andrea,
Thank you sooo much for the input.
I did have to size up in the other pants. I usually wear a 6 in the Ponte but had to size up to an 8. So I was wondering if I needed to size up again.
I watched the Linea show early this morning to see what items they had marked down. Thinking of getting the ruffle blouse and ruffle cardigan in the colors I donโt have yet.
The host Katrina Czish sure seems to be a fan of your clothing. Donโt know if you ever worked with her. Not the same presentation without you or Jennifer, but she did a nice job. And Katia looked beautiful.
The models were wearing your new jewelry that many of us are eagerly waiting for. Any hopes of you doing a sneak peek soon so we can be ready when itโs finally posted?
Thanks!
Melissa, I’m trying to find out when the new jewelry items, the last ones, will be posted. I don’t want to post my collages too early and have it anti climatic. I agree Katrina does a fabulous job. She missed some key point but without having any pre-communication I think she did a great job. She should have said the ruffles had a laser cut edge which lets them hang free and unencumbered. Also I would have emphasized more that the ruffle cardigan should be used as any cardigan you have, and not think of it as a special occasion piece only. I love it over my wing collar white cotton shirt and jeans. You can dress it down so many ways. Also the separate skirt looks great with any sweater or shirt and fabulous with the Tartan blazers and so many jackets like a jean jacket.. I also would not have put the white wrap over blouse with the alabaster pant. I would have put it with the black suede. She should also have mentioned that the polo in the alabaster and navy match the suede pants…..but what can you do without the maestro leading the orchestra….LOL
LOL at the maestro leading the orchestra! Agreed! Thank goodness for your blog and videos. I also agree about the white top with alabaster pants and about how she should have talked about different ways to wear the items. Oh well…
Ok, I will wait patiently for the jewelry sneak peeks. ๐
Have a wonderful weekend!
Louis, I bought several things this morning. I bought the ruffle cardigan in blue and that had not been on my radar because the photos on QVC do not do it justice. I really canโt remember how they had it styled on the show, but it just looked more like something I would wear. I then looked on your blog and saw that I already have most of the pieces that you styled it with! Canโt wait to get my latest haul!
Louis, I wanted to order a second boucle V neck jacket but my size says waitlisted. Since this is a current design, does that mean Elaine has additional in stock and can ship or does it mean a return? The “waitlist” has me confused. Thanks so much! Cat
Elaine has nothing. It all gets shipped to QVC according to their orders….there are no extras….It would mean a return.
Thank you so much! ………….Cat
Dear Louis, I just want to leave you a comment…..not really a question. You are not only my favorite design er on QVC, you are my favorite designer period. I adore the many, many WK pieces I have bought over the years, along with your other beautiful pieces. I have recently lost a lot of weight but while I donated or gifted clothes that no longer fit, I could not bear to part with any of your pieces. Iโm sad that we will not see your fashions on the Q. The level of fashions will definitely go down with your departure. Recently, I have been able to replenish my wardrobe with at least 5 of your blazers, several blouses, skirts and the Jacโs garden scarf in the last month. Yes…..a bit of fashion hoarding going on here.
Not only are your designs beautiful and classics, the advice and ideas you provide through your videos and Blogs are priceless. You have taught me to play, play, play! You are irreplaceable. I look forward to reading online about your adventures.
Thank you for everything you have provided. Stay healthy, Louis.
Dear Mr Dell Olio
First, I have so enjoyed the sketches and so would love to see the upcoming Spring designs.
Also, on your recommendation I went ahead and bought the Plum Riding Jacket and Skirt, you were right (of course!) it is a SLEEPER!
So, I know you have shown very tonal looks with the whisper knit etc, but if I wanted to look for a blouse/or look for fabric to sew a blouse: and I really wanted to go in an artistic/out of box/contrasting choice in colours direction, where would I go? Any colours you could suggest would be appreciated.
Dear Clarika……out of the BOX!!! YEA!!! There are so many colors you can use. Let’s say for argument purposes you were making a classic silk crepe de Chine bow blouse….you know the style where the streamer of the bow is about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches wide. With the plum you could use chartreuse, dusty lilac, goldenrod, berry red, beige [not too out of the box, but an alternative to ivory] dusty coral, sage, sienna for example. I would keep the colors on the dusty or more muted side for a more sophisticated look……however…..if you wanted to go brighter you can up the colors I suggested like lime, hot pink, purple, magenta [like my jewel neck blouse with the scarf still avail in certain sizes…..Pull out things you own just for their color so you can see what you like. Color is so personal YSL used to mix the most unusual colors. The Plum is dark so you can use it as a neutral which will allow a wider range of accent colors.
Thank you so much , for taking time to answer my question!
Hi Louis,
I have a feeling this question has already been asked and I apologize if it has… Will your red India wood block print top go well with the scarlet red ponte pants? I was thinking it would be a great outfit for Valentineโs Day. โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ
Thank you,
Bernadette
Dear Bernadette…..sorry fore the delayed answer. I looked but no longer have these print tops. I have been slowly packing them up to give to charity. Maybe one of the ladies owns both pieces and can let us know.
No worries!!! I did order it and can let you know when it arrives if you like. ๐
Yes Bernadette….let me know.
Dear Louis,
I would LOVE to see your unsold sketches for Q but only if you are confident there is no risk to your intellectual property rights; the last thing we’d want would be harm to you. If you are sure, it would be a delight! Or … save them for your book ๐ ?
QUESTION if I might: Sadly one of my last Linea purchases didn’t work for me, sizing wise. Even though I’ve lost weight and inches, I fell between sizes on the Bisque/Black tweed/boucle jacket; the same one that came also in the Caramel/Bisque. I LOVED the jacket, my petite PLUS body just wouldn’t cooperate :(. I did order both; it’s my narrower shoulders and smaller bust that lend it to falling off; sizing down even further would result in it being too tight at the waist/hips, due I suspect, to the longer length. Often a shorter, curvier jacket works better; the Faux Suede jackets worked perfectly, and I own in all colors. Do you think the Riding Jacket or another left might work better? I’ve read measurements, but remain …. confused. If you’re up for the challenge, your advice would be most welcome. Meanwhile, WARM and COZY in all the delightful WK, Lurex and Faux Suede you’ve brought us this year. The closest I get to a party these days is my dentist’s office LOL; his wife now calls me the day before to “remind me of my appointment and … oooh, what are you wearing tomorrow???” Stay Safe, Hugs and Thanks and Walter says HI!
Louis,
I wanted to know if loden green coordinates with dark olive? I have a few of you olive items from the past and was looking to buy the loden green mockneck and the faux suede jacket? Can I wear it with the olive bottom?
Is there a chance you might ever sell Whisper Knits online yourself?
No Patricia…the logistics and minimums are daunting. That makes it impossible to sell on our own.
Oh, no. Would love to be able to buy even more WK.
Louis,
I took your advice about purchasing the riding jacket. I loved the plum but did my best to resist it until your post. I was able to find and order, the plum jacket, tank and pants in my size. Thanks for forcing me to purchase that outfit! LOL I have purchased more than 25 Linea clothing items since we found out that they will no longer be available. I have rationalized my many purchases by saying to my self that going forward, I will be shopping in my closet. Since I’m in my 70’s, I should have enough Linea clothing to see me stylishly through to the end. (Whenever that is.)
Louis, The above post by anonymous was actually by Donna from California.
I’m right there with you, so let’s hope the clothes are thread bare when that day comes!…..LOL
Totally agree with you. Life will go on, just not a reason to watch QVC anymore. I, too, ordered the riding jacket , and look forward to receiving more Linea in transit . Thanks to Louis, I have a fabulous wardrobe that is timeless.
Louis, how far in advance did you have to submit your sketches to the buyer (I am assuming the buyer is QVC).
Actually Seyma….Elaine and I went through the sketches and picked the ones yo have samples made…..then we presented the samples to the buyer to make a selection from. Unfortunately, many buyers can’t tell from sketches and can discard really good things because they really can’t imagine the fabric in the garment……so it was always better to present the entire group so they could get the message. This happened a few months before the deadline to buy so the production schedule could be met
Louis, what fashion trends will we see as we head into S/S 21? Do you expect the blazer to play as big a role in the Spring collections as it did in the Fall? Any particular colors that will be big in Spring? This is my way of imagining what your Spring collection would have looked like (smile).
Dear Michelle…..I can do one better…..I can post all of the sketches I submitted to the buyer for Jan. Feb. March, April, May and June….of course none of which will come to be, but maybe this is a bad idea since it may make some of the women unhappy. What do you think? BTW, I have no idea about “trends” I just do what I like. If they end up being part of the current trends that was unintentional by me. I don’t know any good designer who follows trends. Trend following designers are usually those that need help creatively, and many do
Louis! I would love to see those Sketches you submitted for 2021!
To me, it would be no different than looking at your Beautiful collages from 2000 and 2001 and forward…..I missed all those – but I do enjoy seeing them.
Whatever you decide is okay with me.
Do you copyright them or something similar to protect them? I am not in the legal profession and usually collaborate when info is needed. No reply necessary just looking out for your intellectual property.
No Pecan Cookie, it would cost to much to sue, and all they would have to do was make a few small changes…..but…..if they copied a print then you can sue as all of our prints have copyrights. Years ago YSL sued Ralph Lauren in the French courts for coping his Tuxedo long halter dress. There were pictures in WWD, and I must say they were more than similar. It was quite a scandal at the time and YSL won! I haven’t heard of a case since.I think the YSL company wanted to make an example of Ralph and embarrass him……they did
Please post them and maybe we won’t like all or couldn’t use them and that will make us feel better! LOL. Kidding of course. Know we’ll want all. Pamela in sunny south
Louis
Please post them
Sarah
I am alone here on a โdonโt do itโ opinion. Posting historical sketches of items where you and your team have profited is one thing. It is similar to Bob Mackieโs publishing his book of his past famous designs. I doubt if he would publish designs that have not been purchased. Artists usually do not give away creative work.
Oh, Louis. please post the sketches………….would love to see your ideas for Spring. It’s your choice to make, so whatever decision you come to…will be the right one. Cat
Louis, if you donโt post them, when it is closer to spring, can you give suggestions on how to build a wardrobe in todayโs environment? For example, do you advise picking a couple of colors each season and only buying neutrals and those specific colors? I am not aware of a brick and mortar store around me that sells clothes from a collection. Everything seems to be bits and pieces and I wind up with things that donโt really go together.
The thing that attracted me to your line was looking at your blog and the pictures that you had of the big deal long cardigan and turtleneck tanks and the riding jackets and skirts. I loved the way everything was tonal and the jewelry matched the outfits so well.
Dear Andrea always start with neutral colors….evaluate what you already own for spring bottoms: all style pants and skirts etc. If your colors are say predominately black than maybe you should start with a navy base and build around that…..navy, khaki for early spring and navy white for summer……you can do the same thing with any base colors such as olive with a dk. khaki and an alabaster or bisque for a safari look and then add your accents, as many as you are comfortable with. I don’t know how much of my jewelry you already own, but there are still many pieces that will be great accent pieces to what ever color base you choose. If you need more help just ask me. Look through catalogs for ideas or on line…..look at the high end stores on line and see what they are featuring for next spring and see what appeals to you. They should all be coming out real soon now that Christmas is over….Jan. is the official start to spring though Feb and March will have bigger selections.
Louis, please do post them. I know that we would all love to see them. Then we can all chat about the Linea fashion that might have been. It also feels like the right bookend to your posting of your first sketches. The first and the last, and all that came between.
I would like to see them. Even if we can’t have them?
Louis, QVC has a listing 1/14/2021, 11:00 PM Pacific Time. Title: New separates from designer Louis Dell’Olio. I sure I read many times that there is not going to be anything new this year.
Dear Seyma…..that’s not true and very deceiving. There is nothing new coming. Maybe they will have things on the show that were new last year. Some pieces were only on a 2am show as this one is EST. I will have nothing to do with these shows in 2021, and Jennifer will not be hosting them. The host will run the show and the stylist will be responsible for putting the looks and accessories together…..it should be interesting to see what the stylists have learned from me or completely do their own thing.
Louis, I just received the denim blue cargo pants. I love them. I am trying to figure out shoes and length. It looks like for spring 2021, pants are long, even when wearing flats. Even dragging the ground a little. Am I misinterpretting? Would it be ok to keep these really long, even with flats or is that just something that is done for the runway and not real life? Thanks
Dear Andrea I think the cargo pants should be long, but not dragging on the floor because that will eventually fray the hem. For the spring you can wear espadrilles, clogs, wedges, platform sandals and all kinds of sandals.
Louis, your beautiful star band ring was delivered today, and itโs a stunner. Gorgeous piece of good, solid, silver. Sleek and substantial at the same time. The star is subtle and sparkling, absolutely perfect – Iโm just thrilled with it. And can I say … the decision makers at the Q are stupid doody heads for letting you go!!! Nothing else they carry can compare to your designs.
Enjay….I used to say “doody heads” when Jac was here. She didn’t like when I cursed at all…..now I curse like a drunken sailor!….Just kidding! I am so happy you like the Star ring. I think every piece in that group came out “STELLAR”. PLEASE leave your reviews on the forum and on the jewelry site I and TCJC would appreciate it. They own the jewelry….not QVC….they just make a commission on the sales.
Dear Louis, I certainly am enjoying the clothes and stories of the past. I donโt think any of could imagine what you went through to bring these beautiful creations to QVC at the prices Iโm sorry to here the chiseling that was done to you and Elaine just unthinkable.
Like so many other ladies when we heard the news, my Dear Husband said order away and I did it was my Christmas present. Double breasted white blazer and pant, Black trench coat, Yellow blazer, Lamb leather jacket in dove, pleated blouse in white, ribbon blouse Iโm black, snow leopard blouse in mulberry already have the caramel now waiting for the last jewelry.
I havenโt been along for all of the twenty years but the last fifteen. I look forward to reading your next post. We all wish you could continue in your designing, your just so talented but thatโs your choice.
Wishing you warm wishes for the NewYear
Dear Kathy, just to be clear….Lai Apparel isn’t the only company where pricing is always an issue. It happens with all companies, but Elaine is a small business so it hurts a lot.
Louis, I was wondering if you knew when the last of your new jewelry will arrive at QVC? I don’t want to miss them. Also, I happened to turn on QVC late last night. Katrina was wearing and presenting your Ribbon Satin Blouse (A384511). She looked great in the black. I already had the crystal color, but decided to order the black on clearance. If there’s any ray of sunshine in this sad no-more-Linea story, it’s being able to pick up multiples of items on a great price.
Dear Michelle, I think there is only two pieces that still have to be posted….the MOBILE PENDANT and EARRING…..and the TIBETAN NECKLACE & EARRING. These should be here this month and then that is the end of the jewelry line. There are still many beautiful pieces avail.
Thanks, Louis. Iโll be checking for these last new pieces this month.
Hi Louis and Linea ladies,
(I posted this elsewhere but don’t think you nor anyone saw it)
Here is the link with my nephew singing Oh Holy Night that I thought all would enjoy. Peace to you, all the Linea ladies, and to our world.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQPaBQsXfVg
Dear Frieda…..I did watch your nephews video. He certainly has it all, good looks, a charming personality and a powerful beautiful voice. Is he a singer by profession or something he just loves to do?
Dear Louis, Sheesh, Melissa, and Clark55, Thank you for your comments to my nephew. I copied and sent them to him and he was thrilled.
I know he works hard at music and making the videos, but I think he is trying to figure out if it is something he could do professionally..
Since the pandemic, I rarely go out, but did yesterday wearing the the vivid pink jacket and python blouse. I only saw 2 people but got nice compliments on the outfit. So another thankyou to you.
What a beautiful voice your nephew has!!
Freida, I just watched your nephew Adam. It was beautiful and he is so handsome. I’m in love!
Frieda…your nephew Adam was fantastic. Oh Holy Night is my all time favorite Christmas song and Adam singing it brought goose bumps on my arms. I agree with the others that he is going to go far with his talent and yes good looks. Iโll be watching out for his future concerts.
Hi Louis,
I’m purchasing Linea items that I did not buy when they first appeared. One item on my list is the pleated blouse in cream and pink. Item A378720. I tried to find it in archives but cannot. How did you style this blouse? Thanks for your help. I’ve purchased tons of other items since I realized this was my last chance. However, I keep wondering about this beautiful blouse. I think I heard you say in a video that this blouse has been overlooked. I don’t want to make that mistake. Thanks in advance for your help.
Donna, just put that number in the search bar, and the blouse will come up it is a pretty new blouse.. Hurry though because not many are left in pink. I have both colors and like them, fit is good, and it is elegant.
Frieda,
Thank you for explaining how to access the archives. I’m not especially tech savy but using the search bar should have been evident even to me! LOL
Dear Donna…..First, I highly recommend this blouse. I’m not sure why it didn’t initially sell as well as I thought it would. I can only guess that blouses are not as high on everyone’s want list because they are thought of as not “casual”. The blouse is made beautifully and the pleats are sewn with precision! The fit by everyone’s comments is very good and the georgette is a beautiful high quality fabric…..Now to answer your question The blouse can be worn on the outside as in the QVC photo loose or on the outside belted. I like a narrow black belt either in leather or patent. I also like it belted in more rugged style western belts for a more western casual look over jeans and all kinds of boho skirts. I love it tucked into pants and skirts too. It’s the perfect shirt to wear under all kinds of jackets and blazers because the simple neckline doesn’t interfere with different style jacket, yet the pleats add something very special and gives the outfit more interest. I like it all buttoned up or with some of the top buttons and bottom buttons left open for a more casual look…..The pink seems to be the most popular….but….I am a very strong believer in beautiful white shirts and blouses which this is a great example of. Also I doubt you have any pleat front soft blouses in your wardrobe so this will also add something new, fresh and special. Since it is washable I’m sure you will wear it more than you thought. For dressier occasions it is very chic under beautiful tailored jackets from my tuxedo, the riding jacket, the topper [under the black and or red it looks wonderful], the classic blazer in all of the colors from the original mushroom to the new navy and vivid pink. It looks fabulous with the faux suede pants and skirts…I love it under all of the WK cardigans from the very longer duster cardigan of two years ago to this seasons ribbed BIG DEAL CARDIGAN…..It also is perfect with all of the new emb. skirts from the vivid blue and silver to the shorter black one with the color wild flowers. This is also a blouse that can take all kinds of jewelry from the simplest necklace to the new COUTURE 5 Strand necklace…..Honestly I can’t think of a thing it wouldn’t look good with….You will have fun playing and mixing.
I am so disappointed I didnโt get this blouse. I remember loving it when it came out, but I didnโt get it at the time. Maybe due to budget and other things going on. Maybe because I couldnโt decide which color. I canโt remember. Once I decided I wanted it, it was sold out in my size. โน๏ธ
Thanks for such a complete description Louis! The ivory blouse has been ordered.
Louis does the moss green mock neck top match the loden green short suede jacket? Thank you. I will miss you once youโre gone from qvc. Iโm trying to stock up on your fashions while theyโre still available. Iโm so glad we can keep in touch via youโre website.
Dear Barbara, they were meant to go together, but they weren’t meant to match……that’s why I gave them different color names. The mock neck is paler than the Loden and matches the Santa Fe necklace in Loden. It’s meant to be tonal and they look good together.
Thank you so much for your quick reply. I placed my order for the suede jacket and the mock neck whisper knit ( with the black sleeveless turtleneck included for good luck ๐)
A little fashion talk…
Louis, tonight we watched It Takes a Thief on Amazon Prime. The scenery of the French Riviera is gorgeous. The vintage cars are perfection, but Edith Headโs clothing designs for the beautiful Grace Kelly are exquisite. She is exquisite. I thought about your comments about how women dress today. The flowing chiffon, tailored dresses and long gloves are exceptional and feminine. And the gold dress, oo-la-la. I also love all the old Hollywood movies where the ladies wear the long satin robes. As a young farm girl, I loved movies where the ladies were elegantly dressed. My clothes were the opposite – they were practical. LOL. I always wondered if I would ever be able to afford to buy something elegant like the movie stars. Thank goodness – yes.
I will miss buying your fashions-very much.
Hello Louis!
Love your blog and so appreciate you for taking time to post great pictures and stores, and to answer our questions as well.
My question has to do with how to store your lace top, A302605–is it okay to hang it, or should it be folded? And should that be the case for your lace jackets, too? I just want to make sure that I am preserving these beauties correctly.
Thanks so much for your expertise!!
Dear Cindy, to be sure of a long lifetime for these pieces I would recommend folding them as few times as possible depending on your storage with tissue to avoid the fabric rubbing against each other. I lay the garment over a piece of tissue, and fold mine in half, a piece of tissue and then the sleeve folded over the tissue…….another piece of tissue on top. I have plastic bins that are big enough to accommodate the fewest folds. This really is the best way to assure a long life of the garments. I would not recommend hanging unless you have very padded hangers, and then I would cover them in a clear plastic dry cleaner’s bag with one side slit to nearly the shoulder for ventilation.
Louis, thank-you so much for the advice!! I didn’t realize that the fabric should not be touching, so I am off to my closet to fix a few things. I sure appreciate your kindness, and for taking the time to answer my questions!!
Happy New Year!!
Cindy, it’s not that they can’t touch, but you asked me the best way and the less friction the better.
Thanks so much for the clarification! I love the lace pieces I have, and after reading your answer, I realized that I was not storing them properly and could potentially ruin them.
I heeded your advice years ago on how to store sweaters, which has worked out nicely–they look as good as when I got them, some at least 10 years ago. Actually, they are looking a little too good because my daughter has yet to return the black whisperknit turtleneck she borrowed a couple of months ago!!
Louis I have a bit of a dumb question so please donโt laugh at my ignorance BUT ….I have a LOT of your tights but in recent years there are 2seams on one side of the crotch and one seam on the opposite side of the crotch. Do the 2 seams go in the front of the body or in the back of the body? Told you I find it perplexing. No label inside to tip this off.โ DUH.
Nancy….you gave me a good laugh!!!! Thank you for that. I never thought I would be telling one of my ladies how to put tights on, but if you have never had a pair with this construction I totally understand. the two seams go to the back. We make some of our tights this way so we can go up to our biggest size. Naturally we have to add more fabric between the seams the bigger we go for comfort and fit. Many tight manufactures don’t make tights this way because they usually don’t do the largest sizes that we do.
Oh I get it! After losing 105 # no wonder I am confused. I can’t bear to give up all of my larger sized tights because of the gorgeous colors. So I must be getting perplexed by my larger sizes which I still use (waste not, want not and all of that ๐ I figure hey, they are going inside of over the knee boots or under some of your wonderful midi skirts etc. So it was actually my FAULT I did not “get it” ๐ I’m trying to keep using my larger sizes of tights while purchasing smaller sizes that do not have the two seams which I now know GO IN THE BACK ๐ Thank you for helping me see and I forgive you for the belly laugh. ๐ You have no idea how long I waited to ask this question! ๐
Nancy you can always ask me anything! Not a lot of tights are made like this with the double back seam. They put one seam front and back, and if we didn’t go up to such large sizes we would too. It also depends on how much stretch the fibers have. There are a lot more variables than you might have thought in making tights.
Louis……….there is a wonderful show on HGTV, Saturday evenings at 8:00pm called Escape to the Chateau. You might enjoy it. Angel and Dick Strawbridge purchased a 19th Century Chateau with 45 rooms, it has a moat, acreage and needs a lot of work. Angel is quirky, very creative and Dick is an engineer. They transform it bit by bit. Very different from most shows. You might enjoy it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escape_to_the_Chateau
Happy New Year! Very grateful for the end of 2020!
Thank you Somersault, I’ve seen advertisements for it but haven’t watched it think it was another soap Christmas story. I’ll give it a try.
Louis…………..one more….it’s on Amazon Prime called My Big Italian Adventure. Lorraine Brocco bought a house in Sambucca, Italy for $1.00. She had no idea what she was getting into! It’s 3 episodes, she’s very funny and gets her hands dirty! A lot of fun and on a more reasonable scale than The Chateau. I think the total cost was $150,000.00 and she bought the house next door.
https://www.amazon.com/My-Big-Italian-Adventure-Season/dp/B08NFSK74H Cat
Dear Somersault, I know Elaine very well! Jac and I went to her wedding to Edward James Olmos. Knowing Elaine as I do I’m sure the hook with Amazon made her enough money to at least pay for part if not all of the house….just a guess. So of course I had to watch it as soon as it came out.
Thanks for reminding me to watch the Lorraine Bracco show. It will be perfect for a New Year’s Eve on the couch! I’m putting a bottle of Veuve Cliquot in the fridge!
I’ve been watching Bridgerton on NETFLIX. I didn’t think I was going to like it, but since it was a period piece with wonderful sets, costumes and very pretty and interesting people. I gave it a chance. Now I’m hooked
Oh, Louis, isn’t it wonderful! I binged watched it! Throughly enjoyable! Cat
Ditto! Great for those sleepless nights…
I totally binged Bridgerton last Saturday. Started late afternoon and watched all 8 episodes! I liked it so much I think I will watch it again. It’s funny, but I am now totally into binge watching. I cannot bear to wait a week for a new episode.
It seems they tied up all the story lines…..do you think it will be renewed?
I thought I read somewhere that it might be renewed. Don’t put anything past Shonda Rhimes!
I did a search and found Peacock (a new to me streaming channel) has 6 seasons of Escape to the Chateau! It is a free channel. I’m going to watch the show now. Never heard of it before, looks interesting!
I really have enjoyed this fall’s dark grey in the pants and wk items. How is this grey different from your other greys? Which ones go together and which don’t? Thank you.
