Tante Anna’s 6 Egg Cake
The recipe I am posting here has been in my family for generations. My Grandmother Marie, had a sister, Anna. Tante Anna taught my mother to be a superb baker. We always called this firm crumbed cake after our Tante Anna. My grandmother was a pioneer in her field of medicine, but not as interested in the kitchen….But!…. She said this cake was her recipe and was annoyed by any other reference!….to keep the peace, around my grandmother, we called this cake the “6 Egg Cake”. Otherwise, we always referred to it as “Tante Anna’s cake”. As you can see, I am still keeping the peace with the title. It is a good one for Easter morning!
1 Cup Granulated Sugar
2 sticks ( 1/2 LB) Unsalted Butter
6 Eggs separated
2 Cups All Purpose Flour…sifted with
2 Teasp. Baking Powder
Grated rind and Juice of 1 Lemon
Oven: 350…in the middle rack
Beat sugar and butter in a large bowl until fluffy.
Gradually add the egg yolks, one at a time, beating after each addition.
Sift flour and baking powder and gradually add to egg and butter mixture. Beat thoroughly. Add grated rind and juice and mix well.
With clean beaters, beat the egg whites until dry and stiff.
Fold egg whites into egg mixture and combine gently by hand, using a spoon.
Spoon into pretty cake molded pan (see below) that has been buttered or sprayed lightly with Pam.
Bake moderate oven 350* for 3/4 of an hour. Do not overbake…this cake will get dry.
When cool, invert pan….I always take a knife a loosen the edges and knock the pan before I invert.. Let cake cool more and sprinkle with sifted confectioners sugar.

*********Introducing FLORA***************

*************I can’t think of a better day to introduce FLORA, a new member of our family to you. This is a m0mentous day!!!! Ringland Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus has announced that Elephants will no longer be a part of the circus, and they are retiring all of their Elephants to the “Center for Elephant Conservation” in Florida!!! Not a bad place to retire…… This will be completed by 2018, and they will be joining 40 other elephants…….I don’t exactly know why it has to take so long, but it is great news non the less!

************* Our Flora, or to be accurate Jac’s Flora, you remember my baby is Tara, is from Africa…..they have bigger ears than the Asian elephants. Flora is a BIG girl….9’4″ tall and 9,450 lbs…..that’s a lot of girl power. Her favorite food is watermelon. “Flora was born in 1982 in the wilds of Zimbabwe, Africa. She was orphaned at the age of two as the result of a culling [mass killing] of all the adults in her family herd in order to control wild elephant populations. Flora spent some time with an elephant broker in Southern Cal. and was soon purchased by David Balding. Ironically, during Flora’s early training sessions, she was met by Tarra and the future Sanctuary co-founder Carol Buckley, who at the time offered elephants training classes. David Buckley introduced Flora to the world of circus entertainment in 1985. Following her debut in “Circus Flora”, she spent the next 18 years preforming under the Big Top with him. In addition to her on stage performances, Flora also starred in the PeeWee Herman movie BIGTOP. After years of traveling, David realized that Flora no longer enjoyed performing. He wanted to see that his beloved companion found a better life. Initially, it was hoped she could return to Africa and be re-introduced into the wild, but because that option proved to be unrealistic. The Elephant Sanctuary, who had made plans to create an African elephant habitat, offered to expand their construction plans and offered Flora a permanent home. While David researched her placement options, Flora was loaned to the Miami Metro Zoo in Florida. On March 3, 2004, Flora completed her trip from Miami to Hohenwald, Tennessee to become the twelfth resident of the Elephant Sanctuary. She was the third African, joining Tange and Zula who had arrived just a few weeks earlier, and had been exploring the brand new African barn and habitat ahead of her.. Flora is the youngest elephant at the Elephant Sanctuary. She also commandeered the title of the Sanctuary’s largest elephant until Minnie arrived from the Hawthorn Corporation a few years later. Flora possesses a very regal stature with loads of self confidence and enthusiasm exploring. Tange loves to encourage and solicit play from Flora and consistently cultivates her companionship.” Jac fell in love with Flora and picked her to adopt….I guess it’s one show girl to another…LOL………..

……………………..hope you enjoy meeting Flora……………………..much Love…………………………….Louis

“THE PERFECTLY PINK SAFARI SHIRT & TANK”

Tarra14

……………………..Monday will be a  day of   BEST SELLERS, and the return of some of your most popular styles……..The CRINKLE GEORGETTE SAFARI SHIRT & TANK, A214117,  is one of those styles. I decided since it is one of my most popular styles….I would bring it back in one of my most popular colors…..PERFECTLY PINK…..Actually, I’m surprised its’ taken this long to introduce this PP in this shirt. After a string of dark colors I have decided it’s way over due to bring this shirt to you in some  pretty summery colors…..Perfectly Pink being the first. For those of you new to Linea….I designed this shirt a few years ago after the popularity of the BOHO skirt, A70208, shown above in the PP. Many of you had asked me if I could do a top in this fabric that would go with the skirt, and the Safari shirt  is what I came up with. There have been other Crinkle georgette tops in between, but none have proved to be as successful as this shirt , and I believe this is the reason. Once again it is the play of a classic. A safari shirt, for that matter anything safari, is ICONIC. The fact that it is sheer, but you still feel covered and secure makes it a winning combination. The detailing and workmanship of this shirt is SUPERB. It is extremely difficult to sew these types of sheer fabrics. Anyone who  has tried knows what I am saying is true. You need  special needles on  the machine that can handle delicate fabrics, and just sewing a straight line is a challenge….let alone double row top stitching!  The placket front and  shirt collar with stand are two more details of a classic shirt . The patch pockets and flap are hallmarks of a Safari shirt. The sleeves are 3/4 length, and can be worn straight down or…..there is a tab and button that can raise the sleeve to create a casual draped effect. Don’t even try to create a folded cuff…..in this fabric it’s futile! However, I have laid the shirt flat and folded the sleeve up from  the hem to the button and then half again….this does control it somewhat……..THE BUTTONS…..The buttons on this shirt are REAL ABALONE  SHELL……..Why do  I capitalize this fact? because you never find real shell buttons on QVC garments, and rarely find them on garments in the stores….unless they are “designer” garments….and even then… sometimes not.. The buttons on this blouse cost what some other the garments do! LOL. It may not  be important to some, but for me it says QUALITY, and adds to the reason why this particular Safari Shirt keeps getting reordered year after year after year…………It is not only beautiful…but it is practical. It’s wash and wear, and great for travel. It can be worn as a buttoned up shirt or worn open as a BREEZY shirt jacket. Wear it belted, tucked in, open or just loose….any way you want is the right way. Casual or dressy, night or day, work  or for weekend play….you will find this SPRING/SUMMER shirt a valuable part of your wardrobe….That’s why so many of you have this shirt in EVERY color……..and on top of all of this….you get a MATCHING FAUX SILK  TANK, which is perfect under this shirt, but is also a great layering piece for so many other things. Now, that every other layering piece in PERFECTLY PINK has sold out this tank will come in very handy as a separate piece on its’ own…….I realize that the PP BOHO sold out on my last show with Antonella,  but I know many of you are going to ask if it matches…..YES it does!……..I don’t have to tell you what other pieces you can wear a pink top with….anything you want…Perfectly Pink is one of the most flattering accent colors you can wear. It’s an ideal summer color…………I love PINK and GOLD so I have chosen to accessorize with the GOLD PALM FROND SHORT NECKLACE, J290362, and the GOLD BOLD HOOP earring, J288005………….who’s ready for a Mojito?……………………………………………………enjoy………….much Love…………………Louis
