“LOOK BACK THURSDAY……..LINEA LADIES”

……………………….The date was the 4th of Nov.2011, exactly 10 years ago today!….Jac and I were invited to Jac’s best friend’s daughter’s wedding in Washington D.C. Jac and I thought we would make a weekend of it and spend some time touring the city. I don’t remember exactly how it it all came about, but I mentioned in a post that Jac and I would be in DC for a wedding. Barbara Firehock standing beside me, the lady with the incredible silver hair, asked if she could set up a dinner with a few Linea ladies. We did have a free night so Jac and I said yes we would love to. Barbara arranged the whole thing. We were staying at the Four Seasons Hotel [if I remember correctly], and the French restaurant, La Chaumiere, was almost directly across the street……..We had a wonderful time telling stories, the food was terrific and it was great to meet “the Ladies”. Barbara’s husband Ray joined us as their male “escort” though it was reported that Ray did say “Escorts” usually get paid….LOL…..Ray took the picture. I wish I had one with Ray in it! He’s a super interesting guy who had a brilliant career in the government………The group from left to right….Penny. Jac. Me, Barbara, Susan, Celia  and Charrie a friend of Susan’s……all interesting accomplished women. Charrie was nice enough to bring each of the ladies a Greek cooking book. Naturally, Charrie is Greek. It was a wonderful night, and it was so nice to meet these fabulous women….women you would want to be friends with. I will always be grateful to Barbara for arranging this memorable evening. I won’t be speaking out of turn, because Barbara did tell me that Ray fell in love with Jac that evening……..and I fell in love with Barbara and all of the ladies. I’m happy to say that we are all still in touch though this blog and face book……..Friends forever.

ZEBRA……PAST & PRESENT”

…………………….I recently posted my photo of my Zebra and Windowpane outfit that was the opening photo in the “Sunday Fashion of the Times” in 1984. I just recently saw the two Zebra editorials to the left in a fashion magazine. I must say the blouse looks very similar to the one I did for AK except my blouse was in a beautiful jacquard silk. It just proves that everything comes back sooner or later!!!

“OPRAH”

……………………….When Oprah was living in Chicago, and doing her show, one of her assistants used to buy her clothes at Neiman Marcus. Little did I know that many of the things she wore were mine. I was at work and didn’t watch the show so I didn’t really know. Then one day my PR girl, Connie, got a call saying Oprah was going to be in NYC and would love to come up to the show room. That’s how our friendship started. The outfit and earrings she’s wearing was from a resort collection with African inspirations. She wore this for a TV Guide cover…..I don’t know the date, but I can only assume it was early in her TV talk show career….She sent me this signed photo after the shoot……..I was on Oprah’s show three times over the years…..Like everything else….people come in and out of our life, and we lost touch, but I will always fondly remember the good times and laughs we had together. Oprah has a great laugh!

“MATTY & MICHELE PAY UNCLE LOU A VISIT”

……………………This past weekend my nephew Mathew and his girlfriend Michele spent part of the weekend with me in Ct. They arrived on Sat. about 2pm, and we scooted right out to Terrain, a fabulous store in Westport. We spent a good hour, hour and a half perusing about with wire baskets in hand. I got some interesting soaps and candles for the house, and they did too. Then we drove over to Rowayton for an early dinner at “The Restaurant”…..a wonderful fish restaurant on the water. After dinner I gave them a tour of Rowayton, and old whaling town….Then back to my home. We sat by the fire, watched a movie and had hot apple pie and vanilla ice cream…..yummy!….then to bed, but I stayed up to watch the world series……….Go Braves!………..On Sunday morning we got ready and went to the “Sugar Bowl” in Darien for breakfast. It was packed, but we lucked out. There was one empty table for three waiting for us. We had a delicious breakfast, and then I took them for a ride to see Darien. We passed by my first house in CT in Darien on Wee Burn Lane and continued on through New Canaan….then back home……We settled in and watched my pictures and videos of Africa on  my TV….. After a while, about 2:00 we had lunch. I made a delicious chicken salad made of cut up chicken breasts, mayo, cut up Honey Crisp apples [no skin], cut up red grapes and toasted almond slivers…..salt and ground pepper, which we had on big toasted rolls. I like to gouge out the dough so you can really fill them with the salad, and you don’t need that dough anyway. We had some other sides and we were done. They left at 3pm because they needed to be home on Long Island by 4:30……..No dinner for me…….I just finished the apple pie and vanilla ice cream!
