“FROM ROME TO PRAIANO”

………………..As the weather in the north east gets colder and colder….I’m reminded of those warn sunny days Jac and I spent in Italy………It’s a short flight from Rome to Naples, but then it’s an hour plus drive, depending on traffic from Naples to Positano……and you can always count on traffic especially in the summer!…Since the road along the cliffs of the Amalfi coast is just two lanes….one coming and one going…..if you get behind a tourist bus or a slow driver it can take forever!!!..However, once you arrive in Praiano you were in Heaven…..There was always this skinny middle aged man waiting to take our luggage down the 250 steps to Andrea’s Villa, and back up the 250 steps when the trip was over…..Supposedly he had 8 children! I think his name was Gigi?……On this trip we stayed in the “Tower”, which was an ancient stone tower that Andrea converted in a beautiful bedroom on the top floor and a bathroom down a spiral staircase. It was very private and away from everyone….It was at the far end of the pool….We loved staying in the tower…..At the upper left Jac is standing in front of one of the two windows in the tower bedroom…..The sun drenched days were spent lounging by the pool drinking very cold white wine, and eating a marvelous lunch and dinner on the main terrace….always with the most breath taking VIEWS!!!! Jac is scene floating in the pool and standing by the railing with Positano in the background…..At the bottom right are the “Three Musketeers”….JP, Andy and myself….Andy and JP were very close friends with the owners of the Sirenuse Hotel and the San Pietro Hotel, both in Positano. We always had at least one dinner with each of the owners at their hotels every trip….Google the hotels for wonderful tours of each one…..There were quite a few movies filmed at the Sirenuse…..Other than an occasional shopping spree, or dinner out, there was no reason to leave the villa……..the most idyllic place in the world.

……………..There are certain cities in the world that are magical…..and ROME….is one of those cities……If you are into ancient cultures there is nothing more definitive than Rome…..Athens of course is incredible, but the amount to see in Rome is spectacular……This photo was taken in the Forum. We spent a few days in Rome exploring before we headed south for Praiano next to Positano where Andrea and Jean Pierre had their villa……..Rome is a city that must be scene!

“FERNANDO DANIEL”

………..When I hear a singer who I think is someone you should hear I post them………FERNANDO DANIEL sang on “The Voice, Portugal”……I love how YouTube gives us the opportunity to see and HEAR these talented people from all over the world, who otherwise we would have never known about. Fernando Daniel earned a four chair turn, and rightly so…..His rendition of Adele’s “When We Were Young” was so emotional he had some of the judges in tears. I thought he was incredible, and worth bringing to your attention……It’s a fabulous song that I hadn’t heard before this, but he gave Adele as the saying goes “a run for her money”…..I think you will really enjoy listening to this young man’s voice, and his interpretation of this song.

“HOME MADE CRANBERRY SAUCE”

……………….Cranberry sauce isn’t just for THANKGIVING!…………I love Cranberry sauce with so many things including chicken and SCRAMBLED EGGS!!!……..It is so easy to make there really isn’t any reason to buy the canned jelly…..unless you like it!?…….I put 3/4 of a cup of sugar and one cup of fresh orange juice in a sauce pan and let it come to a boil constantly stirring. Once it comes to a boil I lower the heat to a simmer. I get a bag of whole cranberries, frozen will work, and I wash them in a strainer, and pick off any stems.  I add a stick of cinnamon, a pinch of salt and a peal or two from the orange, and then add the cranberries to the orange juice and sugar…….Bring to a simmer and STIRR…….When the cranberries start to pop keep stirring. When they are mostly popped, leave a few whole, turn the heat off and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Then move to the container you want to serve in. I use a Simon Pierce sauce bowl, and refrigerate…..Give it at least 40 minutes before serving…..YUM!…..Always best the next day!
