“POOL SIDE”

………………………..On one of my bi-annual trips to Positano, Jac and I liked to spend a few days at Andrea and Jean Pierre’s villa in Praiano, Italy before the work began. We would spend most of the day by the pool just lounging in the sun……what a life!!! That’s me JP in the center and Andy on the right. Jean Pierre was French born and raised in Cario, Egypt. As a young many he was in the French Foreign Legion and was a paratrooper!!!!! He met Andrea in Paris when they were young men, and that was it. JP joined Andrea in his shoe business and they were together for over 50 years…..They were incredible people who really enjoyed life! Jac took this picture…..one of the few I have of the three of us in Praiano.

……………………..I found a box of photos that I haven’t looked at in years, and I came across these……In the phots are Jac and me, Andrea Pfister and Jean Pierre Dupre, Ben Gazzara and his wife Elke. I don’t remember the name of the woman in the black hat. I think she was Elke’s friend. Elke and Andrea were old friends so that was the connection…..3 degrees of separation! What I do remember was we were on our way down town. We were going to an obscure theater to see one of Ben’s friends in a play. Don’t remember the name of the play or the name of the actor. It was a small production with four actors. It was good and Ben’s friend was very good. Afterwards we went to a small restaurant for diner and had lots of drinks! This was the first time I met Ben….What a voice…..what a presence. I have to say he was a little intimidating, but a very open and friendly guy……I was not a big subway rider, but Ben knew exactly where he was taking us…..A true NY actor!

“MY BEDROOM”

………….Back to the VILLA LILY……………My bedroom for most of my stays at the villa was located at the far end of the terrace….[the photo at the lower left shows the complete main house….my room is at the extreme right on the first floor, photo at upper left]…….In the photo at the upper left the last set of French doors at the right was my room. Next door to the left was a beautiful completely tiled bathroom. I always stayed here in the fall because it was heated…or in the summer when Jac wasn’t with me…..It was small but cozy. At night I kept the French doors open for a delightful breeze……Sometimes a little lizard would come in to visit me!……..The photos of the bathroom at the right was actually on the lower pool level located right under the main terrace. There was also a full kitchen and bedroom there. They used the kitchen in the summer when they gave parties. It was very convenient on the same level as the pool. The bathroom had the most amazing sunken tub/shower with a huge arched glass window overlooking the sea and Capri. It was big enough for two…..If you had vertigo it could be a problem as it was on the edge of the cliff looking straight down to the rocky bottom and the sea. I loved taking showers here in the summer. It was like being at the most magnificent spa!…..and it was!!!
