“IT’S MONARCH TIME”

………………….First….I want to send my prayers to all Floridians who have to suffer the horrors of Hurricane Milton……For one who lives on the waters edge I can only imagine what a 15 foot storm surge would be like….A wall of water that would engulf my house…..I know first hand the damage Super Storm Sandy did to my property and the Conn. coat line, when Jac and I and my three pups had to evacuate our home…and that wasn’t even rated a hurricane!….For those naysayers who STILL don’t believe in Global Warming….between the extreme heat of the south west…the stream of tornados in the mid west, the hurricanes destroying the south east, and the scientists saying all of this is a direct result of global warming,,,,,,I don’t know what more proof you need??? Would we all have to burn to cinder before you believe????……Again, my prayers go out to all of those who have been effected by Helene and now Milton……………..Now, to my post……. “Every fall Monarchs fly thousands of miles from as far north as Canada to overwinter in Mexico….When swarms of Monarchs pause en route to rest and feed on nectar-bearingĀ  plants, admirers will be ready to see them blanket trees and shrubs in orange and black”….I have started to see many Monarchs on my plants vying with the bees to gather nectar from the many blossoms in my garden…[all photos above]…Years ago I witnessed literally hundreds of Monarchs who’s path to Mexico was over my house…..It was amazing! It was something I had never seen before, or have seen since…..Now, I see maybe 10 to 20 to 25 butterflies stopping in my garden on their journey south……Unfortunately, many don’t make it to their destination, and die on their way. I have always been fascinated by these beautiful creatures, and wish them well on their trip to Mexico.

“A DAY WITH CATHY & JIM”

…………………..On the day of my FACE BOOK LIVE SHOW…..Jim, Cathy’s husband, drove them up from PA. where they live…..Weather wise it was the PERFECT day!…..I set up all of the trays of jewelry we were to present in the kitchen. When Cathy arrived at about 11:00am, we went through the show and discussed the order we would show the jewelry in…….then we had time to spare so we sat in my “gathering room” to relax and have some snacks. I took some silhouette pictures of Cathy with the sun streaming through the windows, and a sail boat in the distance……..Jim was enjoying the view from the rocking chair……After the show we went to Greenwich Ct. and had an early dinner at a French restaurant named Versailles Bistro…..then we walked up and down Greenish Ave looking in the shop windows. As usual on a Saturday, it was busy with lots of people……..Then we back back to my house for desert!……..I surprised Cathy and Jim with a RASPBERRY CHEESECAKE! I quickly whipped up some fresh whipped cream, and drizzled some fresh raspberry sauce on the cream….I must say I am becoming a pro at knocking these cheesecakes out!…..They thought it was “absolutely delicious”…..After a while it was time for them to leave to go back to PA……..I gave them Raspberry cake to bring home…….We had a great time together……..For those of you who watched the show I hope you enjoyed it…..If you missed it you can still watch the show video here on my website or on my FACEBOOK page….The SALE is STILL going on!

“IT’S APPLE SEASON!”

………………….When I was three years old my family moved from Brooklyn to Long Island……There were still lots of farms, even a dairy farm. I was friends with a classmate who’s father owned the dairy farm, and we used to play in the barn climbing on the hay bales…..There were lots of fruit trees on many of these farms…..and lots of apples…….However, the apples I remember, and liked the best were the apples from my grandfather’s tree. He owned a house in Brooklyn, with quite a sizable piece of land. He had grape vines that he used to make his wine with….fig trees, a peach tree…….and a huge apple tree…..When we used to go and visit he always picked fresh apples off the tree and gave them to us to eat…….They were the most DELICIOUS APPLES I ever ate, but I never new the name of them. I doubt he knew either……My whole life I have tried many many apples. Jac and I used to take rides to the apple orchards up state to buy small bushels of apples, but I could never find any that tasted like my grandfathers!……Then I tried McCouns, and they were the closest to the ones my grandfather had……crisp and slightly tart……..They are my FAVORITE apples!……….WHICH ARE YOUR FAVORITE APPLES?????………………..Just a reminder………….tomorrow October 5th at 1:00pm….EST……….Cathy and I will be presenting a Fall FACEBOOK LIVE SHOW…….There are great SALE PRICES….higher than we have had in the past……..if you can…come and join us for fun and stories!
