…………………………………MOVIES are always a great source of inspiration, and sometimes a new movie can start a TREND. I think the movie “CAROL” is going to do just that. This is a move that is beautifully photographed, and every single detail creates the look and feel of the movie set in the 50s. The sets….the CARS the buildings and interiors were all perfect…….even the stationary, which you will recognize, brought back memories……After the movie was over I realized that the 50s were actually very interesting design wise…..I guess I was just too young to appreciate it…..though I do remember some of the best, and most outrageous cars came out of the 50s. The dinners, and open air movie theaters became iconic. The 50s was not considered the height of fashion, and is not usually used as a reference by designers, but I think this movie can change this. Cate Blanchette is simply beautiful and beautifully dressed in this movie…………BROOCHES were very popular in the 50s…worn on dresses, suits and the iconic sweater set………Watch out…..I think brooches are ready for a comeback! Above, J284040, is just one of the brooches I have to offer, but beware you may not recognize it from the QVC photo…LOL..The colors are BLUE and GREEN…..RED and PURPLE and GOLDEN BROWN……………………………Happy Holidays…………………much Love………………………..Louis

Thank you. I went ahead and ordered the red and purple brooch. Even if it doesn’t happen to coordinate with the raspberry coat, I know I will enjoy wearing it on other pieces of clothing.
I believe younger women are beginning to appreciate brooches. I recently went to a wedding where the bride had made her own bouquet using vintage brooches. She used family pieces, as well as antique store finds. It was lovely! If you go to Google images, type in “bridal bouquets made with brooches” you’ll see what I mean. There are also youtube videos showing how it is done.
Don’t choke, but despite my loving very colorful and dramatic clothing in my youth, I am, to a degree, like the mother of the main character in the movie “About Time.” In that flick, the fellow says of his mother: “Her fashion icon is Queen Elizabeth” (or something like that). I chuckled because there is a strong streak of that in me. There was a bit of self-recognition in that statement. Maybe I wear Linea Malachite and Fuchsia for a stronger statement, but there is a flicker of the Queen of England in many looks I admire. She wears brooches often.
A new office colleague has a very fine social background and patrician features. He told me his mother dressed like Queen Elizabeth when she was alive. All I could picture in my mind were nice suits or dresses and coordinating coats, with pearls and a brooch at the shoulder. That’s a look that I appreciate at this moment in my life. And, as I recall, brooches were BIG in the ’90s, weren’t they? I was young then.
But would Queen Elizabeth wear any of my Linea animal prints? Nope, and that’s where I depart from her style. 🙂
Hi Louis,
Are you showing the brooches on the pea coats? I would love a beautiful colored brooch for my raspberry pea coat. I can’t tell if that is the raspberry pea coat because it looks lighter in your picture than in real life.
Thank you!
It’s actually the fuchsia blazer
I will check out the brooch on the raspberry.
