March “SNEAK PEEK #7”

A special weekend ……”Sneak Peek”. This Sneak Peek, #7,  is actually THREE new pieces: the KIMONO JACKET, A222265, the elongated TANK,  A222271 and the PULL-ON PANT, A222267. The fabric for all three pieces is my FAUX DE CHINE. Kimonos, worn casually as jackets over jeans, have become a strong “street” trend…..meaning many young women are buying thrift shop kimonos, when they can find them, and wearing them with camis, shirts, sweaters…..basically whatever they want…… then pairing them with jeans…….the look is very throw away and nonchalant, but has a certain chic. I have created an emb. kimono for you. This is a true kimono in the sense that the details: the band front, the shape and sleeve are taken from an authentic kimono. The emb. is all mine. The jacket is unlined so it is light as a feather and is approx. 28 inches long for a size XS. It has stitched through pockets so they always lay flat and stay in place. Take a close look at the photos to see the beautiful execution of the emb. The colors are BLACK with ECRU emb, CORAL with BLACK emb and SAND with BLACK emb. The workmanship is truly superb. The pull-on pant, unlined, is the perfect match to the kimono as a coordinate, but also is a great separate pant to be worn with many Linea pieces or other things you already own. The pant has an approx 32 inch inseam, a full elastic waist and has inseam pockets. This pant looks great with strippy flat  and high heel sandals, wedges, tea cup heels and slides. The colors are BLACK and SAND. A great silk pant is always useful…..even if it is faux…… The elongated tank is approx. 26 inches long for a size XS. The neckline and armhole are finished with self fabric piping and there are side slits for ease……another piece that can be used as a coordinate to the kimono or as a great separate piece. There are many ways to put these pieces together. Personally, I like mixing the colors. As you can see in the photos I have the tank and pant matching with a contrast jacket…… or the kimono and tank matching with the contrast bottom, [coral photo]…….. the black skirt is my 26 inch acrylic/wool knit skirt. It is MUCH MORE INTERESTING to have a contrast piece than to have all three pieces matching. The kimono can be used for any occasion or no occasion at all. For a more dressed up occasion wear the three pieces or pair the kimono with a dress, or pencil skirt. In one photo you can see the A219796, black faux silk shirt worn belted over a pencil skirt. Right now you can wear it with a turtleneck…..no need to wait for warm weather. For the “STREET LOOK” wear the white “KATE” shirt under the black kimono with distressed jeans…..in this case “holes” are acceptable. One look I particularly love [not photoed] is the sand tank worn with a black belt, with the tank worn on top of the black pant…..then slip the black and sand lace emb. cardigan over it……the different layers look edgy and very modern. It also works with the black tank and pant with one of the pastel lace emb cardigans. The KIMONO is a terrific “accessory” piece to spice up all of your essentials. The tank and pant will become some of your favorite pieces as the weather starts to heat up……………………Love, Louis

Hello Louis These are beautiful as always !!
I just have to decide . Can you tell me about the fabric the pants are made of..as I am in between sizes .. is there some stretch to them like the pants that match the tribal tunics ..or are these more like linen?? They look wonderful and I want to make sure I get the correct size..

Just received the Hydrangea top in Pink..to go with my closet ful of Linea !!!

    fabulous!!

Thanks again and enjoy your trip to London !!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

They are like crepe de chine and do have stretch but not nearly as much as the jersey knit fabric. The safari jackets were made in this fabric as well as the shirt dress from last spring.

      1. Vicki

Oh Louis Thank you so much .!! I have 2 of the Safari Jackets and love them! This fabric is fabulous!! I have 2 trips coming up and this will be perfect

Looking forward to seeing you and Jac soon and of course Shopping !!

        Cheers

        Vicki

so one more question.. would this kimono in Pink or any other color look good with your black boho skirt? Or would the peasant top with the black skirt be a better look….. I have a pear shape and have a difficult time with skirts..

        Thanks again

have a safe flight and a wonderful time !!

        Vicki :):)

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

          Dear Vicki,
I think the kimono would be better with a slim bottom. You could do any type of pant, Capri or crop in any fabric from the pebble crepe, cotton sateen my regular crepe or my poly/rayon/span gabardine. If you want a skirt I would keep that slim too no matter what length….my black pebble crepe long, pull-on slim skirt or a pencil. I think the kimono over the black boho would only work on someone tall and very thin….it’s a lot to carry. I think the new black georgette peasant blouse with the black boho is a much better option……….Louis

          1. Vicki

Thanks so much I have it all on my shopping list ..I just ordered the Boho skirt and looking forward to that !!

            :)Vicki

  2. Susan (aka Carlytwila)

Louis – I am so glad you have brought us more pieces in this wonderful fabric. It is one of my all-time favorites! I will have a tough time deciding colors on this one – love them all. Do you, by chance have an ‘outseam’ measurement on the pant?

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Susan, The out seam measurement is approx. 41 inches.

  3. Shari

Yes you are right—I did miss it (A222272) Dag-gone it !!!
Well, it’s not like I don’t have two closets full of Linea and I mean walk in’s !
I did closet shop as you suggested for the top to go with the Navy satin crops.
I found and awesome Isaac yellow 3/4 sleeve cardi , paired with a navy top matched spot on. I also ordered the yellow Hydrangea along with the pink one today.
ANY chance you might know the number for the white crops with the red piping??
    Shari

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Yes, it’s A213614, the have a 1x,2x and 3x in the white with red and the pink with navy….that’s it.

  4. Victoria

    Louis,

This takes me back to the early 70’s in L.A….we combed through thrift shops in L.A. and in NYC, in the village, for unusual jackets made with exotic fabrics to wear with jeans and a boatload of long thin silver necklaces. It was amazing how many kimono jackets there were…I had a shop then and we would go to the fabric store in Beverly hills, and buy reams of their old silk fabric, some slightly discolored…but gorgeous and reams of old velvet fabric to also produce those jackets… that sold out in a second…

These pieces are gorgeous to use together or for a more casual look…your spring offerings are all so on point with assisting us in building a superb Linea wardrobe.

  5. TourEiffel

    Hi Louis —

These pieces are absoluely lovely. Question about the coral — would you describe it more as a pink color rather than orange/terracotta? And, question about the jet beads — any chance you could bring those to us? Many thanks. Hope your London trip is enjoyable and successful.

    TourEiffel

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear TourEiffel…..it is definitely more of a pink coral. When I used to go to Florence,Italy…..4 to 5 time a year to work on the sweater collections for Anne Klein…..I used to take walks on the Ponte de Vecchio. As you know, it’s the bridge over the Arno river with jewelry shops….attached one after the other. There was one shop near the beginning of the bridge that specialized in coral…all types, all shapes, all colors. They always had a display of coral beads the same color as my coral….maybe a little paler. They called it “Angel Skin Coral” or “Angel Coral”. Every single time I passed this shop, year after year, I was always struck by this beautiful color from nature. I don’t think I will ever get it exactly right, but I keep trying.
As far as the jet beads go. I am trying to do some for this fall, but I really don’t know if this will happen. You can always go to a Nordstoms, Bloomingdales or Macys and see if they have glass jet beads. I know some of the ladies have been lucky by going to Google. Type in the search “Jet Bead necklaces”. Look for glass beads….the Austrian are the best quality but most glass are good…………….Louis

      1. TourEiffel

        Hi Louis —

Loved being transported back to the Ponte Vecchio through your sightings of Angel Coral. Funny how a color can impress us with life long memories. My Ponte Vecchio color story involves a Della Robbia holy family plaque that I purchased at a shop at the base of the bridge. Every time I look at the plaque I’m taken by the beauty of the figures against the characteristic blue background. Just love Della Robbia blue! And, of course, adore Florence.

Very much appreciate your advice on jet beads and your efforts to bring us these beauties!

        Kind regards,
        TourEiffel

  6. Sherry

Just can’t stop looking at these pieces. Really like the black over sand and the sand over black. Ummm…I think I started that combo with the black pearl button jacket and sand crepe pants, the paisley pieces in black/sand, the ss black/sand lace cardigan, black and sand pc long skirt, black/sand gorgette floral flounce top….I just love how you offer a true collection of pieces.

Maybe I should break out and get the coral kimono…Thanks for offering a longer length tank, will look great belted. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

      Dear Sherry,
You are developing quite a Linea wardrobe…..It looks pretty when all the pieces are hanging together doesn’t it….I haven’t tried it, but the paisley skirt might look great with a black or sand tank and the black kimono…very unexpected….but could work….I have certainly seen stranger combos in the major fashion mags…..it’s all about attitude and good accessories. Have yo0u reached out to Yvonne at Jacques Carcanagues, in NYC where I get a lot of my jewelry? I know some of the Linea Ladies have already purchased necklaces and bracelets and are very pleased. They are exceptional and reasonably priced. She is a doll and has a great website with terrific photos of the jewelry.I always like to help all of you to complete the look…….regards, Louis

      1. Sherry

Yes, it does look good all hanging together. The black/sand pieces just spoke to me, they’re so much “me” and my style. I’ll have to try your suggestion of the kimono with the paisley skirt. You make it so easy when pieces work back and forth with each other.

No, I haven’t contacted Yvonne as of yet. Thanks for the suggestion and reminder.

  7. Shari

    Hi Louis
Am I missing it or haven’t you shown the blouse that Angela had on yet?
It’s the one with the flounce on the bottom and you stated it would be on on the
29th of March. I believe it was sand with black?
Can’t wait for your show. I already have some things picked out from your sneak peeks.
Like the Hydrangea T. OMG I love it!!! So striking with the white crops trimmed in red!
What would you suggest to wear with your Navy satin crops I bought last year? I was thinking
something in a bright Sunflower yellow?
Hope to see a sneak peek of “my” flou.cy blouse!!!
    Shari

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

      Dear Shari,
If you are referring to the wood block print top with the flounce bottom, A222272, I’m afraid you missed it. It is oversold so it doesn’t appear on my QVC site anymore. If you type in the style number you may be able to go on wait list.
The navy crop pants can take anything. If you are interested in a print…the yellow Hydrangea or the new Pucci-esque print which there is a current sneak peak of. It comes in a blue combination that would be perfect. For solids, there is also the Kate shirt in blue [coming in July, the zip front peplum shirt in white and on my March show I will have a chambray blue crinkle georgette peasant blouse with satin strips appliqued down the front and trimmed around the neckline and elastic sleeve hem…..it matches my C. Blue Boho……sneak peak to come soon……..of course anything in yellow that you might already own would be great. I think you should closet shop…..you probably have a zillion things that will look good with your navy crop pants.
      ………..regards, Louis

  8. Marcia

    Hi Louis
I have been seeing articles about W.E., the movie about the affair between King Edward and Wallis Simpson, and her elegant clothing from that era. They talked about the kimono style and I have been searching (in vain) for a jacket. This is beautiful and so versatile.A classic for sure.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

      Dear Marcia,
I haven’t seen the movie. That’s the one that Madonna directed, correct?I’ll catch it hen it’s on pay per view. Kimonos are a very quiet trend, but for those in the know….LOL, it’s definitely out there…………….Louis

  9. Barbara in Virginia

More temptation, Louis! Will the sand pant work with the Light Sand A221797 shell? Thanks so much! Barbara

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Barbara…..the answer is yes. I gave the same standard for both pieces. That said, I will say the tank has a very slight tint of gray compared to the faux de chine, but for me they are a good match……the sand crepe pant from Jan is also a good match if you already have it.

      1. Barbara in Virginia

Thanks, Louis! I think we are on the same wave length about how we see color :-). I enjoyed your Ponte Vecchio story. I think that all of us who were ever there have them! Mine is a cameo with the most unusually colored background. Not pink, not brown, but a brownish pink. Or pinkish brown. I haven’t been there in years but would love to go back. Have a wonderful and SAFE trip!!! As always,n Barbara

  10. Jmarie

    Gotta love a kimono… 🙂

  11. Carol

To help me decide which of the kimonos to get (I’m getting coral no matter what) would the the black one with white emb. look good with the black and white maxi dress, or is that too much volume? I always need something for evenings to wear over sleeveless/short sleeves. I know you have a shrug coming, too, in black. Also, do you like the sand with the sand crepe pants? or the tan pebble crepe pants?

Thanks for entertaining all my kooky combos.

    crdlb

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Carol, I think putting the kimono with the print maxi dress is too much, however as you know my black WK shrug/bolero will work perfectly with the dress and a slew of other things.
The sand crepe pant is a great match to the sand faux de chine and as I told Barbara, so is the sand WK tank if you own them. The and pebble crepe pant is also blends well with the sand FDC…..it is a little deeper in color but still works. The sand crepe is a year round fabric and the pebble crepe pant is more of a spring/summer fabric…………..Louis

      1. Sherry

Hi Louis. The crepe fabric is year round, the pebble crepe is spring/summer, would the faux de chine be considered a year round fabric? Good to know about how all the sand colors play together…thanks

  12. Nancy

Oh my goodness! Ab-so-LUTELY Gorgeous, Louis! I can hardly wait to order it in more than one color!

  13. Dariann

    Dear Louis,

You’ve done it again!! Can you tell your ladies what other pieces you have done in the faux de chine that we might have in our closets? I want to pair what I have with these beautiful new pieces. Right now, I want the kimono jacket, two tanks and two pants! Another question, can I travel with them and have them dry overnight in the hotel room?

    Can’t wait to order,
    Dariann

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

      Hi Dariann,
It’s nice to hear from you. The faux de chine is the same fabric as the roll-up sleeve safari jacket,[which was reordered this year with white and navy being the two new colors] and the safari dress from last season. The black and sand pant will work with the safari jacket, i.e. olive, navy, and white safari jacket with sand pant. They are washable, but I have never done it so I don’t know how fast they dry…..maybe one of the other ladies can help answer that. They are great for travel and the kimono will give you something some what dressier [depending what you wear with it]for evenings out……regards, Louis

      1. Nancy

Oh, you’re killing me here Louis! I LOVE the fabric of the new navy and the new white safari jackets. It’s one of my favorite fabrics you’ve ever used! I find it hard to describe the hand and why I love it so much – but it’s just beautiful. If this “set” is in that same fabric…..I’m just dying to get it!

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Nancy….it is the exact same fabric….90%polyester/10%span. I think you love it because it has a soft silky hand with out the worries and care you need to have with silk. Contrary to what many peoples believe…it is not any warmer to wear than silk….it has a cool hand and drapes beautifully…….I think you may be in a little trouble, but these are the only faux de chine pieces for the rest of the season……

  14. Carol

Holy cow! That coral is one gorgeous color. And “silk pants” to boot. Yum!

    crdlb

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Carol…….remember FAUX SILK…….and they come in the black and sand only

  15. Celia

These are beautiful, and you’ve convinced me they are wearable for any occasion. I love that sand Kimono over the collared shirt…and with jeans, it would be great any day!

  16. Sharon Santourian-Holman

Love, love, LOVE these three pieces. Truly great wardrobe staples and so many ways to wear them! I do not have any faux de chine and looking forward to checking these out. What a great tank, just what I am looking for. It will be a sell out….:) I agree with the colorway suggestions you made. Thanks for the peek.
