“APRIL SNEAK PEEK #9”

“April Sneak Peek #9” is a two for one! They are my MOROCCAN TILE PRINT shirt, A223655 and my MOROCCAN TILE PRINT skirt, A223656. One of the greatest things about traveling is the inspiration I get from the places I visit. Morocco provides me with an endless source of ideas……especially the TILE WORK and the COLORS. The pattern I used for the print is authentic…..though the colors are a mix of what I have seen and  my imagination.

The fabric is my poly crinkle georgette…..by now most of you are very familiar with it and the  wonderful way it feels on the body….how easy it is to pack for your travels and its easy care….. without any fuss. The colors for both pieces are either TURQUOISE or ESPRESSO. The Turquoise combination has black, fuchsia, magenta, deep red, lime emerald with a white that looks like white mortar. The espresso, which is a chocolate color…..has orchid, gold, ivory, terra cotta, rust and two shades of a dusty rose.

A223655, the  Moroccan tile print shirt has a classic straight shirt body…..no darts…no shaping. It has an open notch collar and a 3/4 sleeve finished with a loose elastic….nothing binding or tight. The shirt has side slits. I chose to do this shirt UNLINED for true summer dressing…..though you could certainly wear it year round. Wear it open as a breezy shirt jacket or buttoned up on it’s own. Wear it out with it’s own SELF BELT, or tuck it in and wear your own ethnic looking belt. ……worn loose is always an option. I have shown  the Turquoise shirt tied at the waist with a black tank, and the Espresso shirt worn belted on the outside with the A199257, the Espresso peasant skirt. Take note of the TANK under the Espresso shirt, A224278…..it’s new and it is made in a very special yarn. It will be offered on this show too…..a sneak peek is coming. You can wear the shirts with your bohos, your short  georgette double flounce skirt, your pebble crepes etc. etc. I’m sure you have many things you have already collected to wear with these shirts.

A223656, is the Moroccan tile print skirt is a pull-on skirt with a full elastic waist. It is lined in a poly georgette to keep the skirt feather weight and breezy…..a swirl skirt. The skirt has two tiers…..the first starts 6 1/2 inches below the waist band and the total length is approx.28 inches long. The types of footwear you can wear with this shirt is limitless…..from flip flops to jeweled sandals. Wear it with the matching blouse or chose a solid shirt, tank, or peasant shirt from a number of tops you already own. I do suggest the A215163 top in black or the A213616, jersey black top to wear with the turquoise………even the new black georgette peasant top with the satin stripes would work with the turquoise skirt……you must experiment with what you already have hanging in your closets……..you may be very surprised with what you come up with. For me, I place these print pieces in the same category as my Ikat print separates…..they are pieces you collect and wear year after year…………..they never go out of style………..like the beautiful tiles of Morocco……….enjoy, Love Louis

Hi, Louis! I love the colors in the Espresso skirt but I need distance between those colors and my face. In responding to one of the other queries you said that the A-1998824 top in purple is good with this colorway. Did you mean A-198824, the peasant top in the crinkle georgette? I am hoping so as I do have that top already. Thanks so much! Barbara

Yes, that’s the top….the purple works well with the espresso tile print…..did I type the wrong number again?

      1. Barbara in Virginia

Yep! But I figured either the “9” or the “8” was repeated and found it. I’ll now have to see how close the crochet neck T is to the purple of the peasant blouse. Still getting things out of winter storage!

    Hello Louis,

I love the Moroccan tile print skirts. I was wondering if the pebble crepe drawstring tunic in Terra Cotta and/or the coffee tunic would look good with the espresso skirt. Thank you.

Louis, to add to this, would the ivory safari shirt or the sage shirt sneak peak # 8 look goodwiththe espresso tile skirt? trying to decide my options. Love sneak peak #9.
      regards

        Dear nikki,
I did try the shirts with the espresso. Though the styles certainly work together…the colors did not. Of course the white can go with anything, but the white in the skirt is a very antique white so it’s a little grayish in keeping with the ethnic quality of the print. I think the white and black safari georgette shirts look better with the turquoise tile print. The khaki faux de chine drawstring shirt/jacket looks great with the espresso tile print with the A221797, lavender tank, which looks great with the print. I even like the A215163, yellow peasant top with the espresso. Again, the yellow doesn’t match, but it works with the golden tones in the skirt…..Louis

THankyou for yourinput. I don’t know of any designer who would go thru all this effort. It is appreciated very much.
          regards,

      Dear Nancy,
I tried both tops…..the coffee bean worked both in color and proportion to the skirt….the Terra Cotta did not. The color is off and the tunic is just too much for the skirt. Two other tops that you may own that look good with the espresso print skirt are the A1998824 in purple and the A89793 in the blush [don’t remember the color name]. The color of the tops don’t have to match they just have to blend and look pleasing to the eye…………….Louis

OMG LOUIS!!! This is so Moroccan and my only problem will be which color to choose!
    You are a genius,

Does the limeade ruffle tank (A213625) coordinate with the Moroccan print skirt in the espresso color? Do I see lime green or is that chartreuse in the pattern?

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Chris….the lime you see in the print is more of a gold. I did try the limeade tank with it and even though it didn’t match anything I did like them together, but today almost anything can be put together. I have seen much stranger combinations in magazines than this. If you own it I would definitely wear them together….you know what I say….accessories always help pulling it together.

WOW, just love these sneak peaks….

  6. Sheesh

Fabulous, just fabulous, Louis. I am also thinking of the crocheted boat neck short sleeved sweater from the year before last to go with….certainly the black would work with the blue skirt…perhaps the purple would work with both skirts.

Thanks again for all you do for us…and these sneaks peaks are just a thrill for us…and I know the effort you put into it. You’re the best, Louis, simply the best!

    Your devoted, Sheesh
