“The MERLOT MOSS CREPE SEPARATES”

……………………..MERLOT is a KEY color for July….There will be FIVE separate styles in this very saturated, deep, beautiful, juicy color. Above, you see three new styles.. Two of the pieces above are in MOSS CREPE….one in CREPE GAUZE…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

……………………The DRAPE NECK MOSS CREPE TOP, A341728, has an asymmetric neckline. In the close up photo, middle picture, second column from the left, you can clearly see the stitched down tucks that form the drapes, creating a soft draped neckline. The top has long sleeves, and a slightly shaped body. The length for the XXS is approx. 23 1/2 inches long. This is a wonderful separate top to be worn tucked in or worn out with the matching bottoms as well as many prints and contrast colors……….It is also a wonderful top under jackets of all kinds…….I love it under my IVORY BLAZER with Black pants, and the new JEWELRY!

…………………..The DRAPE PULL-ON SKIRT, A341729, for the Regular length, and A341730 for the Petite length. It is a four panel skirt which enables the skirt to have even drapes all the way around. The Reg. is approx. 35 inches for the xxs from the top of the waist band down to the hem….The silhouette is slim-ish at the top, and sweeps out at the bottom. There is controlled fullness over the hips. This is not a big sweeping skirt. I would say it’s graceful with just enough room at the bottom to create a beautiful coning effect. The proportions of this skirt can be worn with many different tops….from super short to tunic lengths. It’s the perfect JACKET SKIRT….from jean jackets to blazers..This skirt will be featured THIS FRIDAY at 6:00pm on QVC2. Jennifer will be hosting a full hour show with Nancy. This is her first full hour, so I hope many of you can be there to support her. She is confident and knows her stuff, but I’m sure she’s a wee bit nervous!

…………………..The GAUZE CREPE PULL-ON CROP PANT, A341736, for the Reg. length, and A341737, for the Petite. Sizing will range from xxs to 3x. It has a multi stitched waist band, and there are POCKETS!. The inseam for the regular length is approx. 26 inches with an approx. 8 inch leg opening on the half, or a 16 inch circumference. Due to the Gauze Crepe it is a very soft fluid pant. Wear it right now with sandals, espadrilles and wedges, and later with tights and boots…..very versatile!

………………….The jewelry above is new for Fall……..The MALTESE CROSS, and the COMPANION BEAD NECKLACE, J357132, in the GOLD OX color only. YES, you read it correctly. The Maltese Cross and the Bead necklace are being sold as a set, because that is the way I like them worn. Of course they can be worn separately and mixed with other pieces that are coming. The cross has a Merlot cabochon round domed stone at the center surrounded by small seed pearls. On the four ends of the cross are FAUX ONYX square cut domed stones. The design of the metal work enhances the piece. The top from which the chain hangs swivels, and has a single Merlot cabochon round stone. All of the stones in the companion necklace are made in RESIN. If they were in glass the necklace sold by itself would be triple the price, and could never be sold as a set…..The “LOOK” is there, and no one would know. The resin also keeps the necklace very light in weight!…..These designs come from Anne Klein archives, and as you can see, are timeless. The look of the two together is quite regal….and the total effect is SUPERB!

My philosophy of dressing has always been about sophistication, about looking MODERN, and classic at the same time. I am as far away from “funky” as you can get…..Sophistication is not necessarily something you are born with, but it is something you can learn………That is my job. To give you the options to put a full proof wardrobe together with accessories that complete the look….I always felt that this is part of a designer’s job…..It is part of my responsibility to educate and expose you to sophisticated clothes……This is something I had to learn also……As a young boy growing up on Long Island the word “sophistication” was not part of my vocabulary……..When I went to Parsons School of Design I had wonderful teachers who exposed me, and opened my world to the finer points of dressing, and living…..it’s all connected. I devoured Fashion magazines. Unfortunately, most Fashion magazines today aren’t worth a nibble! As I grew in the business, every day I learned more and more, eventually to become the designer I am today……I have always said not everything I design is for everyone.ย  For me, this statement is more about body types, and not about a taste level. I have read often, “I think it’s beautiful, but it’s not for me.” That is OK. There will always be something that will suit you. I only ask you keep an open mind and give things that you’re not sure about a try. You may be pleasantly surprised. Looking different and feeling different can be wonderful!………….enjoy…………much Love………………………….Louis

Dear Louis, I know that you know what a legend Mr. Stanley Marcus was in Dallas. And do I remember correctly that you knew him? The lore there is that he first made his mark when the country women in East Texas, suddenly very rich from the oil strikes there, came to Dallas to buy new clothes. After being snubbed by the other Dallas downtown department stores because of their humble appearance, they eventually made their way to Neiman’s. And to Stanley Marcus. He already had a strict policy in place with his sales women to always treat each and every customer as if they were royalty no matter what their appearance. These newly VERY wealthy country women found a warm reception at Neiman’s. “Mr. Stanley” made it his personal business to guide their fashion choices. Under his tutelage, they developed into very stylish and sophisticated women. And the women in Dallas who had previously shopped at the other Dallas department stores made Neiman’s their new home.

Mr.Stanley was also very intent on cultivating the younger generations. When my mother went on her yearly “splurge” at Neiman’s, she would take me with her. My mother didn’t buy all of her clothes there but did allow herself the indulgence once a year or so. Anyway, Mr. Stanley, who was always on the selling floor, would stop by to see my mother and me, always making sure that I had a comfortable upholstered chair to sit in while my mother tried on clothes. He was “Mr. Stanley” to us young girls and couldn’t have been more of a gentleman.

A Rite of Passage for many of us girls in Dallas was to go to the downtown store with our mothers when we were about ten or so for lunch at Helen Corbett’s Zodiac Room, dressed of course very nicely and with our party manners. There was always a live runway show or two, and afterwards the models circulated, stopping at each table to present the clothes and to tell us which shop at Neiman’s we could find them if interested. I always found this quite intimidating, these beautiful models wearing these beautiful clothes! But of course learning to handle this gracefully was part of the Rite of Passage. I never had a female child and always wondered how it was to grow up without this kind of education! I don’t know often this is done today.

Long past the time I had moved away from Dallas, Neiman’s, and the Zodiac Room, I took this early education with me. An eye for personal style IMO can start developing at a very early age. I can thank Mr. Stanley for the beginning of mine.

Dear Barbara, you couldn’t have had a better mentor. Yes I new Mr. Marcus. I wouldn’t say we new each other well, but well enough for me to know what an incredible person he was. When I first started designing Anne Klein on my own, after Donna left, he gave me the “Stanley Marcus Award”. As you know it was a very prestigious award to receive. The party in Dallas was huge. I would like to believe the turn out was for me, but I know it really was for Mr. Marcus and his yearly event. He was already quite old, at least as a young many I thought so. He was so gracious and made me feel like I was the best designer on the planet. He certainly gave my confidence a BIG boost, when I really needed it. The award sits in my office, and I see it every day.I will always be grateful to Mr. Marcus…… Good memories…..Unfortunately those days are long gone, and there are no Stanley Marcus’ left….none…It is up to the older generation…us…to teach whoever we can about grace, civility, and try to teach them and bring to them an elevated taste level by example. Some will listen and learn….if they really care about such things. In my lifetime I have seen it at its’ peek in the 50s and early 60s, and year after year it has slid to where it almost doesn’t exist for the younger generation……I feel badly for the Millennials. They don’t know what they are missing, but then again they don’t really care about such things. I guess they are learning by example….and not a good one.

Well, I would say you are doing a great job in the tradition of Mr. Stanley Marcus, Louis. He had impeccable taste and in all matters! Our little exchange here has brought back a flood of memories of him and his great presence in Dallas apart from the store. He was a grand patron of the arts and had much to do with the establishment of the Dallas Opera, the Symphony, and the Art Museum. He had an art gallery on the seventh floor of the downtown store where he presented the works of local artists, including the mother of a good friend of mine. He also, along with Rabbi Olan of the reformed Jewish Temple Emanu-el, did much to advance the acceptance of civil rights in Dallas. Although he did experience the cancellation of the Neiman’s credit cards of many society matrons! Dallas was very conservative, and he quite liberal. Although not Jewish myself, I had several friends who were and I occasionally got to hear one of Rabbi Olan’s brilliant sermons.

One thing that I regret in retrospect was the opportunity to be a young teen model at Neiman’s. The wife of one of my father’s employees was a manager at Neiman’s and then ran the boutique at the Adolphos Hotel. Neiman’s added a shop for juniors and teens on the mezzanine in the downtown store and were promoting it. “Mrs. X” was recruiting me as a young teen model. I had grown 7 inches over the summer and I was now wearing Junior clothes. All shoulders, arms and legs. I was no Jac! The mere idea of it scared me to death! I ran from it as fast as I could! I’m sure that I would have been taken very good care of and eased into it and benefited greatly from it. But all I wanted to do at that age was to ride a horse LOL!

Yes, I do try to pass on my heritage to the next generations as best I can. Our son confronted me before coming last Christmas, telling me that 3 year old grandson Austin didn’t know dinners with lit candles and centerpieces and to please be casual. I reminded him that he had learned to put a coaster under a drink of any kind when he was about 2 and that Austin would learn the same. Which he has when he comes to Oma’s house! He sits in a youth chair I had made for his father at his great great grandmother’s dinner table, bows his head and folds his hands for the blessing, uses a napkin, and remembers his manners. He gets to blow out the candles, which he does enjoy! I have shown him pictures of his ancestors and he remembers every one. He tells me that the dining room furniture must be very, very old !!! Austin has learned, as I had, that this is the way we do things at Oma’s house. Everyone here is properly dressed and groomed for dinner even if it is casual. Even little children can learn as long as they are being taught.

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

Oma is right to keep traditions going. Casual is fine, but there is a time and place for everything even a formal table with a formal table setting and candles. I’m sure your grandson will grow up with lots of good memories and live a better life for it.

    Hi Louis,

I know you said the necklaces will be new for fall but when should we expect to see them? This month or later?

    1. Louis Dellolio

I don’t have exact dates, and it always changes anyway, because I never know when they will be processed since they aren’t on a show. Aug,or Sept.

      1. Bernadette

Thank you. I will be awaiting anxiously. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

  3. Pamela

Oh just looked again…isn’t that a silver ox cross too? Yet only coming in gold? What do we have to do to get that color also? ..Greedy I know.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

      Sorry just gold.

  4. Chris/Jazzmom

I can easily see the asymmetrical tank in desert sand over these merlot pants.

  5. Jackie

The gold cross – sitting in a restaurant – who could not feest their eyes on this piece if a woman was wearing this – OMG. I am buying a teal and merlot top just to wear with the necklace. GOR-GEE-ANN-US!

  6. Susan

GASP!!! That necklace!!! And the merlot is dreamy!! You’re a gifted designer, Louis…Thank you!!

  7. Carol

Ooh la la! Love this merlot top and crops. Do the crops come in the teal and black also? Are these being presented July 13?

I’m gaga for the maltese cross necklace set.

    1. Louis Dellโ€™Olio

Yes the crops come in teal and black…..the styles are really scattered all over the place. I will be showing the crops with another top on Monday the 16, ar 10pm on QVC2. Jen is presenting the skirt tomorrow, so some of these pieces should be posted soon, but I have no idea when!

      1. Seka

If Jennifer is presenting the Skirt tomorrow the Q usually will post at midnight.
        Seka.

        1. Carol

The skirts are posted. Not the crops or the top.

  8. Dawn

You had me at Merlot and I don’t mean the wine( I’m not a wine drinker). When you posted about the merlot crop pants I thought to myself about wearing them with boots but wasn’t sure. Thanks for reading my mind.

    Thanks for all you do.

  10. Pamela

    Show off!!! LOL! LOVE… Pamela/SS

  11. designista

That necklace is absolutely exquisite! The teal and Merlot are drool worthy. I was hoping for a fall where I wouldn’t want any new Linea after the incredible collection you offered this summer. What to do?

    1. Louis Dellolio

      I’m sorry….LOL

  12. Nancy Law

Oh my goodness! I love this outfit! I ADORE the merlot color!!

  13. Chris/Jazzmom

On the inseam pant length– is the Regular length 26″? Will Petite be 2″ less?

    1. Louis DellOlio

yes, that is the Reg. length. The petite will be at least 2 inches….possibly 3. You don’t want them too short so you can wear them with boots in the fall

  14. Amanda Barber

    I need that necklace!!

  15. Bernadette

    STUNNN-ING!!!

  16. April
