“Veteran’s Day”

Hello all of my Dear Friends…………….sorry for posting this tribute so late. I have been out all day…………………Veteran’s Days means many things to many people. It can be very personal reminding us of those we lost a long time ago, or very recently……………..For me on this day, I remember all the wonderful young men I met when I was in the army at Fort Polk, Louisiana. I made some close friendships during Basic Training, but after that we were all split up….many to advanced infantry training where the majority of the young men went. We all new the next step for most of them after that was going to be Vietnam. I was one of the lucky ones and finished my service in the states……So on this day I think of Paul from PA,  Steve from Texas, Jake from NY, Cal from Georgia and all the others that I became buddies with. I hope they all came home safe and sound………………………………………..blessings to all the Veterans…..past and present………………………….much Love to all…………………………..Louis

I had many high school classmates who went to Vietnam. One died there, only nineteen years old. At class get-togethers sometimes they talk of those years and remember, as you did, guys they lost track of and wonder if they made it back. We owe all veterans more than we can ever say.

Thank You Louis for your service! Didn’t know you served. My father served during the Korean war era as a plane mechanic in the Air Force. Due to no ear protection back then he has high frequency hearing loss.

Thank you for your service Louis and to all that have served including my grandfather WWI and my dad WWII I have both US casket flags stored in a display case side by side in my home.

Taking a cue from newly elected Dan Crenshaw who appeared on “SNL,” graciously helping to heal a breach of decency that occurred last week on the show, –and to quote veteran friends — “NEVER FORGET.” This means not to forget that we are ALL in this together, no matter what political persuasion and that we will never forget those lost on 9/11.

For those who did not hear or read Dan Crenshaw’s words, I should clarify something. He said that rather than saying “Thank you for your service” to a veteran, say “Never forget.” And, his reasoning as well as that of other veterans, is that we are “all in this thing together; we are not on two different sides.” I felt a need to clarify since most of us associate “never forget” with 9/11. The phrase now appears to have at least these two thoughts behind it now.

It is not Dan Crenshaw’s thought alone. I have noticed that other veteran friends have encouraged this same thing.

Happy Veteran’s Day Louis! Thank you for your service to our country! I am a VA nurse. My son was in the Navy, now in the Army reserves, and my daughter has just become a flight nurse for the Air Force Reserves.

Happy Veteran’s Day Louis. Thank you for your service. 😊

My late husband, current husband and father were all in the navy. Several other friends and family served too. So thankful to them and all that served for our country.

Thank you Louis and all the men and women who keep us safe.
My Dad drove a Tank with Patton’s Army in the Battle of the Bugle, he never talked about it.
He along with two brothers served in WWII and came home.
We have a lot to be grateful for.

Louis, thank you so much for your service. I come from a long line of vets–every service, every war of the 20th century—my dad WWII, USN, grandfather, USA WWI Europe, uncles Normandy and the Pacific WWII, and my husband and father-in-law, USAF career officers. We have two grandsons who are in the USAF also. I am proud of all who served. Thanks for your post today.

Dear Karlakaye, it is I who should be thanking you and everyone in your family. I will pray your grandsons stay out of harms way.

    Dear Louis,
Thank you for your service. Our freedom is secured by all the men and women who protect and defend us in the armed services.
    Best regards,

Thank you for your service, Louis. I wore your beautiful black trench coat with a large fabric poppy to our church’s Veteran’s Day service. I served as a US Army nurse – also stateside. I really enjoyed your informative history of the trench coat’s uses in WWI.
