“NOVEMBER WHISPER KNIT #1”

“November Whisper Knit #1” is A229715, THE ESSENTIAL CARDIGAN. I felt this was the right sweater to start the NEW WHISPER KNIT PROGRAM off with, because this is a cardigan many of you wanted me to bring back. You all remember the A217628 cardigan that sold out, had a huge waiting list and was never to been seen again. For some reason?????? it had a return rate that just went over the limit for it to become a reorder, but as I said the wait listers held on, got it and kept it. So for those that returned it…..this is the same cardigan…..NOTHING has changed, so you can save yourselves the aggravation by ordering and returning it again. For those of you who LOVED it and pleaded for me to bring it back…..it took lots of cajoling on my part to convince the buyers you really wanted it. It is EXTREMELY rare if ever that a discarded style is ever brought back exactly as the original……hence the new A number. When I say EXACTLY, I mean down to the button…..all the measurements were kept the same including the 26 inch length, and of course it is in the RAYON/NYLON WHISPER KNIT you all have fallen in love with …..for good reasons. The colors this go around are…………………….BLACK……………..VIOLET………………NAVY……………….TEAL………………and YES, the Violet and Teal will match your new Violet and Teal pieces. If you look at the QVC video of the HTC skirt…..Angela is wearing the Violet cardigan over an Ivory, short sleeve, scoop neck WK sweater [a new one coming in the program], the Violet jacket and the Violet/Black HTC skirt……..super CHIC………………..Please, also notice the new “Whisper Knit” label. From now on every sweater made in this particular Rayon/Nylon blend will have the “Whisper Knit” label. Do not be fooled by wannabees. There are many qualities of these yarns blended together………….the operative word being QUALITY. There are many different grades of yarn….the cheaper yarns are short fibers and will pill badly. The long fibers are kept for the best grade and are superior in every way. This holds true for all yarns especially CASHMERE. Think of it this way…..short yarns….short ends….frizz [pills]………long yarns……..undamaged ends……silky and smooth.

This is the first sneak peek of  “8” new styles in this Nov. program. Since this entire group will be sold “ON LINE ONLY”!!!! be on the look out. I am thinking mid to end Nov., but if I get any news you will be the first to know!

…………………………….For all of my east coast friends, be VERY careful these coming few days. Hurricane Sandy is to be taken seriously. I can’t believe I was supposed to go down to QVC for a 4am show on Tues.!!!! It was only last year that Jac and I literally took our lives in our hands and went to QVC during Hurricane Irene!!!………………………ENJOY & BE SAFE…………………….Much Love………….Louis

Louis, as a distraction from the storm: Speaking of your new label, I was a little sad not to see “Linea” on it at all. No doubt, you gave that label a lot of thought. Will “Linea” eventually be a separate line of your clothing from “Whisper Knit”, or do you plan on dropping the Linea name entirely in time? I know there are a few other companies named Linea (furniture, hair, photo, car).

I’ve always wondered about Linea as I like the name. I’ve read your bio on this website and it doesn’t mention the origin of the name or what it means to you. Possibly you have answered this many times before, but being that I’m fairly new to discovering your clothing line, I haven’t read it or heard you mention it on QVC.

I know the word “linea” means “line” or “thread” in Latin, and in astronomy terms, it refers to any long marking on a planet or moon’s surface. So literally, a fabric clothing line? Does it have any more special meaning to you, or did you just like the way it sounds as well?

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Hi Jean…..”Linea” will always be the name of the main line. However, since the WK program is growing and it is mainly sold on line, “we” thought it would be a good idea to separate it from the main line and give it even more importance by giving it a new label apart from Linea.
Linea is a word used very often in Italy for different product lines….like “Linea Pele”, which is a leather line. Since I am Italian and the word does mean “Line” as in line of clothing or the line of a garment, I thought it worked for me very well. I also like the way it sounds…………

The name ‘Linea’ is what 1st attracted me to your clothing Louis – you might say “It drew me in”! I’m a professional land surveyor – my whole career has been lead by my mechanical pencil in hand while drawing scaled-down maps in my ‘Rite in the Rain’ field books. Lines are continuous – lines intersect – lines connect……Thanks for satisfaction of my own curiousity.

        1. jmarie

” Lines are continuous – lines intersect – lines connect…” What a perfect metaphor for the Linea collection: season to season and year to year, continuous, intersecting, and connecting.

And thank you, Louis, for fighting for the return of the classic cardigan! Still wishing my wait-listed olive had materialized!

      2. Jean

Louis, I appreciate you taking the time to give an excellent explanation to something I’ve always wondered about.

Also, Pamela, I love the “lines are continuous… intersect… connect” thought. It has a nice symmetry to it.

        1. Pamela in Anchorage

Thank you JMarie & Jean for your understanding of my humble words. One can easily substitute “People” for “Lines”! People are continuous, People intersect & People connect – in Hard times & Good. Most people share the ‘True’ Peaks & Valleys of Life! We must stand together.

    Dear Louis,

8:35 a.m. I was just watching the “Today” show, and it looks as though the projected landfall (at this time) will be between Atlantic City and NYC. They mentioned that Long Island Sound will be greatly affected. Please be careful.

(I am sure you are keeping abreast of everything on local news, but this is too dangerous to be shy about, so I decided to write.)

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

We have reservations at a local, dog friendly hotel, and will be leaving shortly.

  4. TourEiffel

    Dear Louis —

Looking forward to your Linea Whisper Knit line with first class yarn! And a new label — how exciting! I love the WK pieces I already own — including this cardigan — and am delighted we’ll see more. Folks in the DC area are preparing for storm Sandy in a serious way. This afternoon I went to Costco, Safeway, and another grocery store — water was completely sold out in every store! Hope you and Jac don’t suffer any damage at your place. So happy you don’t have to be at the Q next week!

    Kind regards,
    TourEiffel

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Same here……every store was wiped out. Jac orders this water from Maine or Vermont called “Raw” so we have cases of it. Our freezer is full…..you would think we had a family of twelve instead of two….of course there is lots of chicken in their for the “girls”. I have to admit we are a little nervous about Sandy…………in all the years I have lived here on the water we have been very lucky. I was in Europe during the 92 storm and Jac stayed with her mother so we really didn’t experience it, though Jac did come down to the house to see what was happening and immediately left…….lot’s of prayers for this one.

      1. TourEiffel

Sending prayers your way. Sounds like you are well prepared. Stay safe whether or not you have to evacuate.

  5. Toni Fisher

Dear Louis: My two doggies and I survived Hurricane Andrew and Hurricanes Charlie, Georges and four others while living in Port Charlotte (West Coast of Fla.) We had a pool to use as water for the toilets, I know you’ll think I’m crazy, but also you can fill up your bathtub for flushing because if you lose power, ALL power is out, ATMs, gas pumps, cell towers, etc. I know you’ll be well prepared with food you can eat without cooking, or use a gas grill. We lost three hospitals and Home Depot became the hospital – my house and pool cage survived by an act of mercy, so you, Jac and the girls are in our prayers. CARDIAGANS ARE GORGEOUS AND I LOVE THE LABEL.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Hi Toni…..I put a huge generator in this past summer so we will have pretty much the whole house on powered by gas.If we have to0 be evacuated, because we live right on the Long Island Sound, we are going to stay with friends who live in land and also have a generator. Hopefully none of this will come to pass.

  6. Carol

I just love that we are getting the WK label on these new pieces. It’s hard to believe that there were any returns on this sweater–maybe newbies who didn’t know their sizes yet. Violet, Navy and Teal, coming to my house for the holidays! WK is the perfect weight for a sweater here in So Cal. I can even layer them without breaking out in a sweat.

Of course with the Santanas blowing today, it’s no time for a sweater.

Keep the hatches battened this weekend.

I spoke to a friend of mine in LA and she said the west coat was having unusually warm weather for this time of year……..she said “earth quake weather”, but she’s a bit of a drama queen.

      1. Carol

We call it Shake and Bake. LOL

Pray that you and your wife and the “girls” will be safe if the storm heads your direction. I just got the animal print dress in henna and love it! I have not worn a dress in years, but this fits perfectly in the medium. In fact, I’m tempted to order it in the gray color as well. And these sweaters are gorgeous! I love the navy color as it is a true navy which I need. Hmmm…wonder what else I’ll be getting? Thanks again and stay safe!

  8. Quendiva

LOVE the new labels and that the TM Whisper Knit is owned by you!
I was so fortunate to get this cardigan and matching shell in black and olive the first time around. I will add the beautiful new violet to my wardrobe.Thank you.

  9. rae

    Louis,
LOVE the new labels! As a ‘sweater’ girl, I am so, so excited for the return of this cardigan and looking forward to the other new pieces, too. I got all of the colors in the cardigan and tank that you offered last fall and wear them constantly! Many thanks for fighting for your ladies!!

Louis, thank you so much for fighting for this cardigan and keeping the quality the same. I’ll be buying the teal and the violet to join its aubergine, olive and black siblings. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that this comes back next year so you can bring us a walnut, two (unless there’s a walnut kimono style cardi.) Keep up the extraordinary work. I’m looking forward to collecting the short sleeve pieces, too. I am so glad you and Jac don’t have to drive to the Q this week. I hope you and yours remain safe and damage-free through Sandy.

  11. Chris/Jazzmom

Stay safe. Thanks for the sneak peek.

  12. Nancy

LOVELY! And EIGHT new pieces online only!! Whew.. I’m going to have to keep my eyes open.
SO glad you and Jac don’t have to come down for the show at the Q. Stay safe up there.. I’m sure we’ll all have stories to tell when this is over!

  13. Maria (a.k.a. Goldie 76)

p.s. You and Jac stay safe, too, Louis. This weather is absolutely freakish and frightening! What a convergence of forces: hurricane, cold front AND a full moon. As a friend who was once a surfer (keenly aware of the power of tides) told me, “If the storm hits at high tide, it’s all over.” Sounds like a doomsday prediction. Yuck! Just hope that it changes paths again and lands out at sea!

  14. Maria (a.k.a. Goldie 76)

    Dear Louis,

I am excited that I’ll be able to buy one of these magnificent cardigans, which pre-dated my awareness of the Linea line. Thank you for insisting on keeping all specifications for content, etc., the same. Somehow, with the sluggish economy, it seems that everything is being cheapened in one way or another. I believe that many of the Linea Ladies would agree with me that we would rather pay a bit more and have a quality product. Of course, QVC might have other ideas… Again, thank you for creating fashions and jewelry we can believe in.

  15. Jean

Louis, thank you for the preview. I looked at the previous A217628, and I see it had 100% five-star reviews, 32 of them! So that’s pretty amazing. If available, I always read the reviews, which are great for this cardi. My favorite Linea cardigan to date has been the fitted rib bottom A217983, but it didn’t come in NAVY! So I’ll be watching for this one in a small navy when it’s available on line.

  16. Sherry

The new label is great, fantastic that they brought this cardi back. I’ll be ordering 3 sizes smaller this year (yippee!); last years WK sweaters just hang on me. Sooo looking forward to all the other styles and colors. Thank you for all your hard work.

  17. Julia

    Louis,

Thank you for bringing back this cardigan! I am one of those who begged and pleaded (and ranted a little on the forum) for it’s return. I have it in black, aubergine, mallard blue and finally stalked the olive on ebay and LOVE them all! I will definitely be getting the navy and the teal. I have the turtlenecks in those colors and love to make a sweater set. I may even grab another black as a back up for my other one since I wear it all the time. It, however, looks as good as the day I recieved it despite all the wear. These are fabulous. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

    Julia/Qulia

P.S. And I’ll definitely be getting more of the 8 new pieces. Can’t wait to see them!
