I am traveling in Italy and on this Memorial Day, we attended a Memorial Day Commemoration at the Florence American Cemetery. It was a moving event celebrating the liberation of Italy honoring the Americans who sacrificed their time and lives on the battle fields between Rome and the Alps. I want to add that the event was very well attended!

Jackie….you are in a city I considered my second home. When I worked at Anne Klein, for 20 years, I use to go to Florence 4 to 5 times a year to work on the knit wear part of the collection. Florence was my home base. I used to stay at either the Principe Savoria or the Grand Hotel, both on the Arno River. Over the years I bought many pieces of jewelry on the bridge jewelry stores, and lots of pottery in a small store just after the bridge on the Duomo side. Actually, over the years, I did a lot of shopping in Florence…..the best gloves in Boar leather!Paintings and even antique gold leaf brackets to hang on the walls and put vases on. I still have the best friends who live in hills over looking Florence. They are like family to me. Rub the Boar’s nose for me in the Straw Market in the center of town!

So true. Every Memorial Day I honor my mother’s only brother who died over the Pacific in 1943. As a bombardier in the Army Air Corps, he was doing what he felt led to do in time of war. But he was only twenty-three years old and had a lifetime ahead of him. He is the uncle I never knew. And I also remember a high school classmate who died in Vietnam; he was only nineteen years old. Never ever forget the sacrifices of so many….

How can we ever satisfactorily thank those who put their lives on the line for us? Impossible to do.

We owe much to the families who sacrificed along with our warriors, too.

AMEN! Thank you as well Louis as you are among those brave souls who defended our honor and privilege to live in America! Much respect and gratitude to all who serve.
