…………….A Story…..Purple fabric used to be outrageously expensive and only rulers, kings and queens could afford it.The dye initially used to make purple came from the Phoenician trading city of Tyre, which is now modern day Lebanon. Fabric traders obtained the dye from a small mollusk that was only found in the Tyre region of the Mediterranean Sea….9000 mollusks were needed to create one gram of Tyrian Purple. It was so rare that only the Imperial classes of Rome, Egypt and Persia could afford it. Ancient emperors, kings and queens that wore the color were often thought of as gods or descendants of gods….Queen Elizabeth the 1st created “Sumptuary Laws” regulating what clothing and colors people of different classes could wear. She forbade anyone but close family members of the Royal family to wear PURPLE……………………………………….Today we have no such laws, and we can wear any colors we choose. However, it is interesting to remember that there was a time only Royals, Emperors and Queens were aloud to wear Purple.
The Iris top above, A347494, is made in Moss Crepe. It has a narrow band creating a V-neck line, and it has a 3/4 length sleeve. The body is shaped through the bust and gently flares out….not too much, so I wouldn’t call this a swing. It has just enough room to graze the hips, and then some. It also has side slits for extra hip ease on this STRAIGHT bottom. The xxs is approx 28 inches long. The Iris color, though saturated, is a softened purple, much like the flower………..In honor of all the Roman Queens and Empresses, I have accessorized the IRIS top with the CARMINE RED TREVI necklace for a dash of color against the purple, and the ROMA and AMALFI necklaces……it looks fit for any Queen………………………enjoy………………much Love…………………Louis
Just received the Roma and Amalfi necklaces with the clip on earrings (more clip-on, puhleez). Absolutely gorgeous. Quality is similar to Chanel pieces I own, and I just may combine your Amalfi with my Chanel long baroque pearl necklace and CC pendant. You always give me ideas.
Melanie, it sounds perfect to me. I’ll be in good company!
I wanted to get the Amalfi necklace, but it sold out quickly. Will there be a reorder for the Amalfi necklace? And if yes, about when would it again be available to purchase? Thank youl.
Yes Joan Marie, but I have no idea. I don’t think the factory has given a date yet. I will post to everyone when I hear.
Oh my, I need this beautiful iris. My kind of color! Will also be picking up the other colors. Also hope this piece is reordered. Can definitely see it as a staple.
Can not wait to purchase all three colors. Love the v-neck and 3/4 sleeves.
Hi Louis
These tops look slimming and flattering. Moss crepe is a wonderful fabric especially for packing.
My question: Will you be showing dark chocolate for your fall/winter line. I went into QVC to see if you still had some Dark Chocolate pants in my size in A265615 Linea slim ankle pants. Unfortunately almost all sold out. Will you be bringing that color back in the slim ankle pants. I like monochromatic dressing.
Thanks for including the information on purple. I knew the term “royal purple” but didn’t know the details. The Iris top looks lovely. Adding it to my list.
I’d love to be the proverbial fly on the wall when you open your coin package!
Louis,
I’ve already established that I will be getting the dark chocolate and of course the black is a must (necessity,) but the iris color is stunning! So saturated and rich, both literally and metaphorically. I love reading the history of your inspirations! The way you combine the classic with the contemporary is flawless.
The iris nugget necklace looks like it would go perfectly with the top. Also, I love the swirl and pineapple necklaces! You’re making it very difficult for me! A quandary I admittedly don’t mind having!
Btw, my coin jewelry already shipped and should be here shortly…very excited!
All the best,
Kate
