“THE GARDEN 2019”

……………………..The garden is in full bloom……..The Holly Hocks are reaching for the sky, and the Phlox have taken more than their share of space. The grasses in the white urns by the sea have filled out nicely, and the Russian sage by the lion is at least 3 feet tall. The grasses behind him have a way to go, but they were planted later in the season……..It’s bursting with color…..just the way we like it……………All in all it’s a robust summer………..The girls love it two…..They love digging in my garden!…………….much Love……….. Louis

Okay I’ll start calling them rabbits….until winter comes! I’m surprised foxes came by your yard if you aren’t near woods. We have woods everywhere by us, but I have never seen a fox. I used to hear more coyotes at night and have hardly heard them this summer. Thus the large rabbit population. I’m feeling a touch of coolness at night here…a sure sign of summer’s ending. I wish we lived by water, but am glad that we have lakes galore and Lake Michigan to enjoy. I can imagine watching the colors over the water every morning and evening. Enjoy dear Louis!

Franco, who’s a hunter as well as my caretaker, was also very surprised to see the foxes. They were pretty brazen and didn’t fear people……I also have noticed the changing of the season. The nights are definitely chillier. It’s always cooler on the water, but there’s a different feeling to the night air. The days are shorter, and my grasses are growing their cat tails…..a sure sign of fall. I’m an early riser and I’m usually up before the sun rise so to see the colors over the water is amazing especially when there are clouds that become orange and pink against an aqua sky……just beautiful….I have to sit at the edge of my bed and look out the windows, and watch the splendor of it it all.

Thank you for the lovely pictures of your flowers Louis! It was a delightful addition to my morning coffee. Everything looks so healthy. I have some fungal issues with my phlox and have to look up some organic spray (neem?) as I never put anything chemical on my property. My new David Austin roses are being nibbled by something too. And the bunnies! There are too many this year and I must take my husband up on his offer to trap them. I have a hard time having him do that in the winter when I admire their antics, but when they start eating my flowers, that’s it.

The anemone and limelight hydrangeas have just started to bloom and that always surprises me because that means that summer is coming to an end. I’m never quite ready for the slower pace of summer to come to an end, but I do so love autumn!

Did I see a picture of a clematis? Love, love! One of my favorites. I have two healthy Jackmani clematis on each side of my covered front porch and they never disappoint in their blooms. Enjoy your beautiful garden and water view. It’s nice to have a beautiful and peaceful place to come home to, isn’t it? Hugs and love!

Dear Karen…..I used to have a terrible problem with rabbits….”bunnies” is too cute for these garden ravaging creatures……Nature solved my problem……Out of no where a fox showed up…..then there were two. Word must have gone out that a meal was to be had….many meals….The rabbits disappeared and so did the foxes. I have just started to see a few…very few rabbits again. I’m hoping the fox comes back. I don’t live near any woods so I wonder where these foxes came from………You did see a deep deep purple clematis. It was actually here when I moved into the house and it comes back every year… I am starting to see signs of the garden waning. Days are getting shorter. Soon the color of the Long Island Sound will change from blue to gray. Even though I do love true fall….this in between time is a sad time…..I don’t like to watch the flowers die.

Oh, I’m jealous. Send me your gardener. Thank you for sharing; your gardens are simply exquisite. You have many items in pots, as do I in order to grow the plants in the sun vs shade as needed. But I have to water all these pots at least once a day south Texas…very time consuming. Then I’m too exhausted (and hot) to sit and enjoy my blooms. Most are not visible from inside the house, but at least all the joggers and dog walkers get to see colorful beauty as they pass.

    Good Morning Louis,
What a glorious scene to wake up to and a beautiful tribute to your Jac.
How are your Girls enjoying the summer?

My girls don’t like the sun or the heat, so when they are outside they always go under the chairs. They do however LOVE to dig in Daddy’s garden which Daddy doesn’t appreciate. I can always tell what they have been doing when their water bowls look like mud!

    Louis
The first reaction I had was ‘ Oh My Stars!!’, second was I had to admit I was a little envious.
This is exactly the kind of garden I love. I have been having an issue with grasshoppers and something else this year.
I keep threatening to spray the bug killer, but I will lose all my
visiting blue jays, cardinals, and other birds that stop by in morning and evening.
I will have to live vicariously through you- thanks for sharing.
    Just glorious!!!!

Louis if I had the Atlantic Ocean in my back yard I would never leave either! Winter storms must be wild & fierce & very beautiful…

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Every day it’s different, and every day it’s beautiful. Summer and winter storms are both incredible to watch.

  9. Pecan Cookie

A riot of color! I am jealous. You must have many butterflies stopping by. The gladiolus look great. Mine droop I think from the weight of the flowers almost right after blooming. It’s a work in progress but so worth it. Thanks for sharing!
