All so interesting Louis! I had considered a career in fashion when I was in high school, but I went in a different direction. I still enjoy learning about it and wearing beautiful, feminine clothes. Love all the lace, pearls and embroidery this past year!! So feminine!

I will have to read that book…all about brows, who knew?

I think Katia is just too cute, btw. Every time she is on, I just think she exudes happiness. Makes me smile.

Louis, I have noticed that the models for your shows always wear their hair up, but not for other vendors. I have thought that you have to truly have a beautiful face to wear all of your hair up, including the bangs and your models do. Maria does have fabulous hair and she always looks so lovely. I will have to make a note of the makeup differences now. Just curious, what do you think of eyebrows for women over 40 or 50? More bold or not so much? I used to have thick eyebrows, but they have changed so much as I creep toward 50. I think they are key to brightening and shaping your face too. Thanks for your insights!

Dear Karen…..when I did runway shows for Anne Klein, I like all designers then, and still many today established a “look” for the show. I would meet with the make up artist and hair designer I selected to do my show and we would look at the collection and I would discuss my vision. Many times they would have great suggestions as they had their finger on the pulse of what was happening in make up and hair. It was very important to me for the models to have a consistent look. Of course things would have to vary a little according to the model, but basically they all had the same “look”. I felt it made it less distracting from the clothes, and that was the point of the show. I do the same thing with my QVC shows, but I’m not as strict. I do like the girls with long hair to wear it back in pony tails because it’s neat, and again not distracting. Maria at one time did begrudgingly pull it back, but she honestly looks better with it down. Katia is another story altogether…..she has so many wigs. I do tell her which one I like her to wear. For summer I like her to look exotic and she has the personality for it. Angela does have beautiful hair and for some shows, like QVC2 I’ll let her wear it partly down, but Kate and Chantal I want hair back, I think they look more sophisticated, and it’s more suitable for my clothes………A dear friend of mine who used to do the make up for my shows with her husband, Robyn Cosio, has written a book called “The Brow”. It’s all about the history of the eye brow going back to Cleopatra…..through the golden age of Hollywood to present day. She believes the brow is the frame to the face and I agree with her.. I think whether a brow is heavy or not depends on the individual…..but….it should have a beautiful arch and shape. The color again depends on the individual. With out a doubt the brow is very important. Robyn has worked for Sally Hershberger for years in LA and comes to NYC once a month to work with the clients here out of the salon…..If you look good with a bold brow go for it…Age has nothing to do with it

Hi Louis. Any idea when the “Chain Gang” will arrive? Love!!! And the new dark khaki pants…super Ponte? Thanks so much. Pamela in the SS.

Louis, did you say there was something coming to coordinate with the Cathedral necklaces? The two tiered black/chocolate necklace is amazing. Look forward to adding that to my collection. The top is a no brainer in all colors since I have all colors of the floral crops–which I cannot stop wearing. Anyone who passed on those should definitely reconsider.
All my 7/15 orders have finally been delivered and what a great haul I made. I’m pairing the off white set with feather jersey tops. Those fabrics work so well together.

I love seeing your garden photos. I have a black thumb, so all hail and respect to your horticultural skills.

Dear Carol…..when I sneak peeked the Cathedral Necklace I showed the print fabric in the photos that they were designed to coordinate to. The print is also called the Cathedral print. I believe it will be here in Oct……I don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble, but believe me when I say my horticultural skills are no better than anyone else’s. I fertilize the soil at the beginning of the season before I plant anything and make sure everything has enough to drink……I know it’s Jac who is taking care of the garden…..not me…..it will always be “Jac’s Garden”.

Yes, Jac had lovely porcelain skin. Thanks for the tip on the lip color. I never thought of that. It’s interesting that I recently realized that darker highlights in my hair seemed to go better with my paler winter skin. Same concept I suppose!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Yes….the contrast is needed so you don’t look washed out…..a little cheek color helps too. I don’t know if you have noticed how my models look in my shows and how they look in other shows, but there is a major difference. I insist they wear their hair back to show the clothes and jewelry better [all except Maria who truly doesn’t look great with her hair back], and I like a made up look under those studio lights. I like lipstick. It makes them look more alive…..When they do other shows they wear their hair down and wear nude lips and darker eyes. IMHO that’s a look only very YOUNG woman can wear successfully……After a certain age it makes you look older. They look drained. If you are going to wear you hair down it has to be very HEALTHY and have a good cut….a style…even if it’s a blunt cut. It has to be more than just long hair.

I gravitate toward brown more than I do black and love this espresso! And espresso suede pants are coming too! I noticed that ever since I entered my 40’s that brown just seemed to compliment my features better. Black can be hard to wear on top in the winter when I lose my tan and am on the pale side. I’m guessing that espresso is a bit lighter than walnut??

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

As I recall Karen the walnut color was like walnut floor stain IN THE CAN….It was two levels above black…..so yes it is lighter. I think black in the winter on pale skin requires a stronger lip. If you can wear rec…..go for it. Jac never wore red lips in the summer, but did in the winter, and no one was paler than Jac.

Thanks for your quick response Louis! Yes, I love that ombre top, have purchased 8…4 for me, 4 as gifts… Love both those brown shades in the Moss Crepe!

  8. julie

Louis, I am a huge fan of shades of brown, so glad you are using that color, thank you! I am on Waitlist for your last Moss Crepe V-neck in the Dark Chocolate. How does the Espresso differ from the Dark Chocolate? Does this new top have the high low hem, I can’t really tell?!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Julie….the Espresso is a little darker than the Dk Chocolate. It’s hard to show the high low hem on the form, but it is the same body as the Ombre top A263353 only with a v neck and short sleeves. The high low is not that exaggerated which is one of the reasons I think the ombre top is so popular…..just enough low to cover the behind.
