I heard a brief blurb on the news this evening. Do an internet search for “Mystery Elephant Deaths in Botswana” and a number of news sources come up. It is so sad.
designista 3 Jul 2020
Oh Louis, have you seen the mystery death of 350 elephants in Botswana , 280 confirmed! What a terrible time it would have been to go on safari.
NO!!! I haven’t heard or read as thing about it. Maybe that’s another reason, or the reason the boarders are closed. Where did you see this??? I will have to ask my travel agent about this. Botswana is where we were going!

Israel is probably the lowest death rate on the planet, less than 300 for a population of almost 9 million. What’s happening in the hospitals is anybody’s guess, though. Their recovery rate is about two-thirds for total cases but those numbers are old, I don’t know what’s going on now, but their death rate is low because people are folllowing the rules for social distancing and masks and there was a curfew early on that they attribute this to. Flying that distance is the scary part for me, total lack of control, and what do you do if the airlines overbooks—as they always are prone to do. However, if the plane was empty I think I’d be good to go-
maybe? It’s also the makeup of the country, being closely clustered around Tel Aviv. A lot to think about . Low numbers sometimes mean a spike is right around the corner. Oy vey!
Well, as you say the Israels are very disciplined, but I’d hate to get sick in a foreign country, even though Israel is known for their hospitals.

Dear LDO, how disappointing that your safari had to be cancelled! I’ve been wondering about your trip as the time was getting close for your departure. The point comes when there is only one logical choice, especially with the chance of getting stranded in a remote location.
Dear designista….I actually wouldn’t have minded being stranded at the elephant camp, especially at their expense, but if I were stranded in Johannesburg, as pretty a city as it is reported to be, that I wouldn’t have liked!

Oh Louis, thanks for the heads up. But would you have gone if it hadn’t been for the closed African borders? It seems there’s risk in everything nowadays. Viruses, falling statues, 911 no answers.
I’m not at all trying to deny the danger inherent in the virus, but how long can we postpone life? I’m thinking fear is so rampant we’ll probably have the whole
country to ourselves, including the tours, bistros, you name it! All that freedom is just irresistible to me and maybe worth the risk. LOL But I’m still on the fence, Just hope there’s no long drop on the other side! I’ll keep you posted.
Dear Cela….so many things were coming into play. The flights still hadn’t been guaranteed which was crazy. My travel agent couldn’t even tell me when we would arrive in South Africa and how that would effect the dates of my safari. With the borders still closed I had no intention of spending all of that money and being stuck in S. Africa. We all agreed it was best to reschedule for next year. All of the airlines are giving me a full refund. What is the status of the virus in Israel. I also wasn’t looking forward to wearing a mask all those hours on planes! It’s a very long trip from NY to Dubai and Dubai to S. Africa. It was starting to feel like torture.

I don’t know how you thought of the sapphire color for this skirt. I ordered the matching blue crepe blouse last night. This is such a fabulous weight, it could double as a little jacket, too. You can’t go wrong with this color, for mixing with black and white, maybe your HOT PINK WK shell.. I’m thinking of visiting Israel this year, never been there. What a perfect outfit ! Now for jewelry LOL !
Dear Cela….I have to say I’m envious of your trip to Israel! That is one country that Jac and I had high on our list, that and Africa. Jac had planned to go with her mother but then there were bombs and they canceled the trip. We never made it. I will say that this may not be the best year to travel……I had to cancel my Aug. trip to AFRICA!. Air Emirates kept changing the flights. My travel agent thinks there were so many cancellations they were trying to combine passengers….but what was even worse was the African borders were still closed and no one knew when they would be open! So we decided to cancel until next year. I recommend you make sure that there are no problems due to the virus. Social distancing at tourist sights, hotels and restaurants could all be a problem. That’s not what you need to have a fabulous trip.

I’m also a big fan of your videos, Louis. You and Lou are doing an amazing job that’s so much better than the QVC shows. All we really need is YOU! I was planning to stay on the sidelines and resist further purchases, because (frankly) dealing with QVC has been beyond frustrating. I realize all retailers were understandably having a difficult time adjusting to the pandemic restrictions. But, while other retailers have regained their footing, QVC has only gotten worse. I know you are also feeling the burdens in this environment, but you have seized the moment to turn lemons into lemonade and bring us something very special with the sneak peek videos you’re doing. We will not want to give them up! After seeing your styling of this skirt and all the ways it can be worn year round, I will be ordering it (express shipping to avoid QVC delays). I have the lovely sapphire pieces you’ve shown, so I’ll be all set there, and will also pick up the black or white. Maybe both…Happy to hear the anniversary necklace has been reordered, as well. Have a Happy 4th and thank you for all you’re doing for us. Stay well.

I look forward to your videos and prefer them to the QVC presentations. You are not constrained by the time limitations for each presentation. You control what is said, not the QVC host. I love the different styling options you suggest.
I loved seeing you on the Q, but your videos are so much better. Lots of information and more detail you are giving us. Thank you.

Louis, I’m mad for your videos! You and Lou do a fantastic job! This skirt is glorious! I so appreciate your styling and all the options. The closeup of the fabric was genius, something that would never be possible on QVC. I love that you are able to present everything in your good time, nothing rushed. I need the white as well as the black. My one vision is all black, lots of gold bracelets, coin necklaces, anniversary earings, gold sandals…………..it’s the gypsy in me!! Ever since you have started with the videos, I am not missing you on QVC as much because with the videos, I have you longer and all to myself………..no hosts, no call ins, just you and your designs! Happy 4th! Thank you so much. oxoxoxo Cat
Louis
Thank you for doing these videos. You provide so much more info, than we get on QVC.
I respect your decision to retire, but, I so miss your knowledge and insight during the presentations.
The skirt is fabulous, can’t wait for it to be posted.
Stay safe and be well.
Dear Cecelia….I’m happy you appreciate my videos. I think I can give all of you so much more info than when I was on QVC where I had no control, and found myself many times trying to get a word in between what the host was saying. However, I want you to know I am not retired. Actually, I’m working more now than ever on the apparel, jewelry, blogs and videos…..which I hadn’t done before. I still plan all the shows, pick the models and what they will wear and how they will be accessorized. It is very challenging only being able to use two models because of QVC’s policy during the pandemic. I can’t always present the clothes the way I would ideally like to, because we can’t order anything that isn’t being sold in the show to prop the clothes with. They are so understaffed due to social distancing that there are many new rules we have to adhere to………and YES! the skirt is fabulous. It’s all about the fabulous fabric that makes it so special.
