Awesome. Nature is so powerful. I have friends in Old Saybrook and they have not had electricity in a couple of days.

    Louis,
Wow! Thanks for posting! I could feel the wind and sea air through my computer screen! Just awesome!

Glad that you, Lou and the girls are safe…and still have power. As Seka said, it’s frightening, but also beautiful. I grew up on the water. There is something majestic (albeit scary) about the power of Mother Nature.

I love the rain, scared to death of Sunamis. All along PCH they post signs that say, Sunami escape route. There’s only one main exit for all Malibu residents
and two others FULL of hairpin turns that really slow you down and make you dizzy. Man against nature is not a fair fight.

Cela, I know Malibu well…..The perils of living on the ocean. There is little escape in Malibu. When the rains come then you have to worry about land slides!…..but it is a magical place! I didn’t realize you lived in Malibu?

  5. Lily

Glad to know that you were safe.

Lily, the storm roared in and left just as quickly. However it did leave a path of destruction that they are now saying was second only to Super Storm Sandy [which they never really called a hurricane]. Since i do not have many trees on my property I was lucky, but thousands of trees came down. There is still a huge tree blocking the road further down from where I live. There are other ways to get passed it so I think it’s going to be days before they move it. Probably not a priority?

Wow! Amazing to see the force of that storm. Do the girls love stormy weather or were they just outside to keep track of you?

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear CGee, only Sammy “sneaked” out when I opened the door. I didn’t even realize she was outside. It’s a game she plays, an escape artist. Neither one of the girls like being outside very much, but Sammy has to be in the middle of everything. Lily isn’t inquisitive!

Was thinking about you as friends on the east coast reported damage. I’m glad you’re ok!

Wowee! Living in the Midwest far away from this storm…. your video is the best visual to see what is going…. Yikes!

I’m more afraid of tornadoes! We never had them when I was growing up. It was a middle of the country thing. Now I hear about them on the east coast more and more. Hurricanes can be horrific when the sea surges and the wind is fierce. We were lucky that the high tide wasn’t when the storm was at its’ peak. It’s also a full moon which makes for a terrible combination! It was the wind that caused the majority of damage this time around. My house is over 100 years old, 1906. I guess they were built better in those days and to withstand storms. So far so good.

Woowa keep safe. Hot and calm here in western Wa

I hope never to go thru one of those again. A month after we moved from Bucks Co., PA. to Annapolis in 2003, Hurricane Isobel hit, coming straight up the Chesapeake Bay into our community of Oyster Harbor on the Annapolis Neck, doing tremendous destruction to those whose homes were along the beachfront, actually carrying one out to sea, and submerging all of our roads under 3 ft. of water. We were on high ground (8 ft. about above sea level, lol) and the water came up to our ground floor, then stopped. It was like being on a tiny island in the midst of a great lake full of trees. We were VERY fortunate, & I wasn’t sorry to leave & return to WNY when my husband retired from NPR 5 yrs ago. Our son called from the Bronx to reassure us that he was safe and hadn’t lost power, but I am still concerned about friends who live on the North Shore of L.I. in Glen Cove, and about my elder son’s in-laws on the south coast of the Island. Stay safe, you.

  11. Seka

    Frightening yet beautiful.
    Stay safe, Louis.

  12. LeefromMinnesota

Amazing how Mother Nature can be both so beautiful and so destructive. Hang on Louis!

  13. Melissa W

    Wooooooo! Quite windy! Stay safe!

  14. Sylvia

don’t we have enough to deal with, without hurricanes??? I agree, Louis, stay safe!

  15. Nancy in DC
