………………………Compasses have always been fascinating and mystifying to me……I have given them so much more meaning other than guiding me to find the physical direction they lead me in……A compass, for me, always helps you to find your way home………It always leads you back to the one you love……..I love everything about this very special compass. It looks like a MAGICAL COMPASS from a fantastical movie for children…..and adults alike……I can see this in a fantasy movie where all of the sections rotate in opposite directions like magic, and suddenly stop in the direction you should take!……There are four layers of different metal shapes that are plated separately in Silver Ox and Russian Gold and then put together. The red stone in the center and the different color ones at each compass point are then set……The back of the pendant is also beautiful, and so well finished that I think it can be worn backward too [photos at the right]…….The pendant can be worn two ways……long or short. At the top of the compass is a engraved ring, and at the other end of the chain is a beautiful toggle with tiny cabochon stones at each end….Just slip the two chains around your neck and insert the toggle into the ring as the photos illustrate above……The short length is similar to the Fez pendant so it looks great filling in the neckline of a jacket, in this case the riding jacket, as shown at the bottom left…Or, just slip the chain over your head and wear it full length……It looks perfect with any of your WK sweaters and your Moss Crepe tops…………………..When Jac left this Earth, Angela gave me an antique compass that came in an old leather case…..To me it was an antique treasure. An unusual gift for sure, but one that somehow gave me comfort……..Inside was engraved the Robert Frost poem “The Road not Taken”. The last paragraph truly spoke to me……………………………………………………………………….
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood,
and I- I took the one less traveled by,
and that has made all the difference.
I am sure one day this compass, that Angela gave to me, will lead me back to Jac……………………..enjoy………………..much Love…………………..Louis
Found it! It was the India Pendant J350150. I closed my eyes and tried to visualize what you showed it with and I came up with the WK Cowl Neck Sweater. I searched for the sweater in this site–and BINGO, there was the necklace!
Oh my Lord…your are some detective!!!! I would have never remembered that. The India Pendant…..love it……and the earring is perfect with the compass. Much better than the confetti earring
Louis, I just looked at the necklace and earrings I was referring to. It’s not the Confetti. It was a big circle Medallion with 5 etched concentric circles, faceted bezel set beads in red, green and pale blue–the center is a larger red faceted bezel set stone. The outer circle had chain rings hanging from it. The earrings are a single red faceted bezel set stone, not cabochons as I had thought. The metal is an aged bronzed/gold. I think the Medallion comes off and their is magnetic hinge–can wear over a cord, etc. I’m thinking 3 years ago, but I can’t find it on your blog–I guess I’m not searching under the right key word.
Ah, Louis, that was so poignant–brought tears to me eyes….
There is a pair of small red cabochon earrings that came with another necklace set you did 2-3 years ago–can’t recall the name of the necklace at the moment. I have them. The necklace had short rolo chains hanging from it. They would match this center stone perfectly for when you are just not in the mood for a bigger earring.
I think you are referring to the confetti necklace and charm bracelet. There was a smallish tear drop red earring…..it that it? It would be perfect….or any gold hoop the the Anniversary hoop

Thank you for the touching story behind your inspiration for this beautiful compass. It truly looks magical, like something out of a Harry Potter film. Love the quote from Robert Frost too!
My husband tries to guide our boys through their teen years to be strong, honest, Godly men. One of his sayings is to always follow “true North”, meaning to not let the world mess up your inner compass and to always do the right thing…true North. I have this necklace and the plum arte moderne coming my way. Thank you dear Louis!
What wonderful wisdom your husband is imparting on his and your sons……,something they will remember forever…..Harry Potter….that’s exactly what I meant.
Dear Louis, I must say this is one of your most beautiful pieces!Along with with the wonderful story that inspired you. For each one of us who purchase it we will have our own meaning. Our special talisman!thank you so much!!!
Hello Louis!
What a beautiful sentiment behind a beautiful piece of jewelry. I love compasses too; they remind me that my compass, my best guide, is inside me, and they remind me of times where people navigated by the stars, looking to the light to successfully navigate the darkness. I love the antique look of the compass because it reminds me of that finding spots of light in the darkness. But I now can add your symbolism of it as a magical device that will help us navigate to the ones we love. I will wear it with those thoughts in mind. Thanks, as always, for everything you do to spotlight beauty and meaning in the world.
Louis,
What a beautiful sentiment that Angela gave you that compass. So touching, so symbolic and I’m glad it gave you such comfort.
It truly is a beautiful piece not just for its aesthetics but now that you revealed it’s symbolism, a heartfelt acknowledgement for all of us to find our “home.”
I hope you see the love that so many have for you!
All the best,
Kate
