“MY VERY FIRST LINEA SHOW!”

…………………….My very first Linea show for QVC was May 2000, and we traveled to Paradise Island to do the show. Judy Crowel [sp] was the host. I remember most of the clothes, but some of the details are fuzzy….The sketchers weren’t very elaborate, actually they were only for Elaine and I to work from so they were “work” sketches……Looking at the sketches on the chart at the upper left corner starting at the top row, far left, there was a V-neck cotton/acrylic tunic sweater [long before WK]. The bodies were one color and the bands were in the different bright colors of the collection…The next “Big Shirt” was a dip dyed SILK georgette!…….next was my “Jockey Shirts” in SILK crepe de chine. I think the front and back were different colors, and the sleeves were different colors. The placket, collar and cuffs were in WHITE COTTON. This was a big hit and reordered for years to come. Jac loved this shirt and wore it with white pants and shorts. That really surprised me, because Jac rarely wore such colorful clothes. Next was a cotton stretch twill tunic length jacket with snaps and grommet details. I believe it came in white, peony pink and turquoise all with gold……..NEXT ROW….I don’t remember that shell that says linen?……..Next was a solid silk georgette big shirt with a sheer chiffon wide matching border [in bright colors]. Next was a sleeveless shift dress in the stretch cotton twill with a partial zip front and grommet details to match the jacket in the same fabric and colors……..Next was a silk V-neck tank that was reversible in different colors…..lime/turquoise and pink and fuchsia………Next the silk Big Shirt in the large peony floral print. It came in 3 colors. The missing color was a neutral khaki. I originally did the print for AK and it was made in Italy. The Chinese copied it exactly and it was still silk!…..The BOTTOM row at left was a pair of silk draw string wide leg pants with pockets in colors to go with all of the silk big shirts. The next two pieces, the crop pant and short pencil skirt were in the cotton trill stretch in the white, pink and turquoise…………..I remember almost everything selling out…..In those days that was the norm……….This was the first show of 20 years of shows!

Loved that show and purchased the white grommet tunic jacket and matching dress. Took it to the Amalfi Coadt with me later that summer and wore it on a short stay in Capri! It was the beginning of a beautiful relationship with your work and I will certainly miss both you and your designs.

I was there on Paradise Island! I remember seeing a rack of clothes in glorious colors. I hadn’t started shopping at the Q yet. I became a customer because I wanted to buy those clothes!

Wow! What a cool first show! Wish I had been on board back then! I hope the current trend of sloppy dressing in “athleisure” or work out gear and pajamas does will endure. It just does not seem likely to me, but what do I know? Seems like trends come and go, people will get sick of that if they aren’t already sick of it. What is your guess, do you think the pendulum will swing back and we will return to better dressing as a society? There is really no place to go but up, in my opinion! I cannot imagine people are really still wearing their PJs all day long after the length of this pandemic! Ugh! I never have done that myself, unless I was very seriously under the weather or in early days of recovering from a surgery. I love seeing your postings from the past!

Louis, what a delight!t I am throughly enjoying reminiscing……”The atRomance of the Past”. I wasn’t with you in 2000, so to see all that I missed is so worthwhile. I enjoy seeing my old favorites as well. It will remind me of the treasure trove I have packed away. I am hoping at some point, you will include Anne Klein as well. It would be fabulous to see how timeless those designs were and how they could be worn, today!

I hope you are having as much of a good time as we are………….all the oh’s and ah’s from each of us. Blessings………Cat
