……………………..The Feb. 03 group was all about Spring….It was an eclectic group with very special pieces…….The first jacket at the upper left was a suede jacket with multi color suede floral and leaf appliques….the colors were very pretty as you can see from the little suede clippings…there was a short suede skirt to coordinate and a short sleeve jewel neck rib sweater that coordinated with the jacket and skirt…….The next jacket was an unlined suede topper with contrast crocheted seams…It came in two colors the navy with red crochet and the parchment color with black crochet…….The two sweaters at the bottom were very special. The first, on the right, was a rayon blend sweater with an interesting diagonal rib on the body. The sleeves were vertical ribs. The body was emb. with tiny tonal pearls in the ribs……..the last sweater was a cotton acrylic ballet neck sweater with 3/4 length sleeves. It had baby tonal sequins hand emb. all over in three beautiful colors..
What defines an iconic designer? The fact that after 20 years their clothes are still relevant! I would wear any of these pieces today. Congratulations on a stellar career dear Louis!
Dear Pam…..an Iconic designer for me is someone who has left his or her distinctive style in the world of fashion. It usually goes hand in hand with someone with a long and distinctive career, but not necessarily. There are a few designers who died early but left an Iconic mark. Anne Klein, Ralph Lauren, Bill Blass, Geoffrey Beene, Normal Norell are all considered American Iconic designers. YSL, Valentino, Chanel, Dior, Balenciaga. to name a few, are all Iconic European designers. It really is Fashion Historians who decide who was iconic or not.
I have both of the jackets shown here, still wear them, and they still look fashionable. Thanks for the reminders to shop my closets. 🙂
All so beautiful!! Yes, it’s sad to see how things change and quality is usually what suffers even as prices increase. That is what makes your pieces—not only the design but also the quality. You always made sure the quality was there so they look, fit and wear so beautifully. So sad to think spring is coming and there won’t be a spring 01 offering like that from you, Louis!
Louis, thanks for posting these wonderful memories of your beautiful collections. Looking back, I don’t know how I missed some of the collection.
Louis, I have loved absolutely everything you have shown so far! Magnificent collections! So many beautiful Suede pieces!
Seka.
Seka….that’s when suede was very affordable….like silk…and labor was also inexpensive. Over the years it all changed….Women wanted the same types of things with all the bells and whistles at the same prices! Totally unrealistic……As prices for fabrics and labor constantly go up….quality goes down to maintain prices. Elaine and I took cuts in our commissions to keep QVC’s demands and maintain quality, but it was getting more and more difficult, especially for Elaine who has an office and employees to pay.
I’m loving looking at all of your past collections, even though I may not comment on them all.
Especially love the two sweaters in this collection. So pretty!!
Ugh, hit Post too soon. That’s from Melissa W
Absolutely beautiful! …….Cat
