“NOVEMBER 04”

……………….November 04 introduced my second TSV!!!!It was a Holiday cardigan sweater with sequin and bugle bead emb. The bugle beads were sewn under the sequins which made the sequins stand up. We called it the “dancing sequins”. I had a huge disagreement with the buyer and TPTB over the colors they wanted this sweater to be in. They wanted it to be in 3 or 4 pastel colors [can’t remember how many]. I thought the colors chosen weren’t right for Nov. I wanted more Holiday colors like Red, Royal, Ivory and Black. The colors they originally chose were even paler and more washed out than the colors we finally agreed upon. It’s not that I didn’t like the lilac, aqua, and pale lime…..I just though Nov. was the wrong timing. They looked more resort and spring than Holiday, and how many QVC customers took off on a vacation in Nov. and Dec. and wanted pastel dressy sweaters???? As a result the sweater and the two upsells…..the tank and skirt only sold fair….but….that spring when we sold them again they BLEW OUT!!! so fast that all the pieces were reordered for the fall, and I finally got to do the colors that I wanted, and they blew out too!…..The next row of sweater were emb. sweaters…..The new version of the blazer sweater was again in the Honeycomb stitch, but this time for the Holidays we added LUREX…..There was a coordinating short sleeve TN lurex sweater in the black/gold and champagne/gold…..another year completed!!

I purchased this outfit in lilac the when it was the November TSV for a wedding in Palm Beach, Florida the following February. It is a beautiful outfit for a wedding. I wore silver open toe heels with the outfit. I am a little heavier than I was so many years ago so the skirt tight. But I recently wore the lilac twin set with pale gray pants. The lilac twin set looked as good as the day I purchased. I had not thought about this outfit for several years. I came across the outfit in my cedar closet. Louis, seeing your archive drawings is fun and so interesting. We, Linea Ladies, will miss your beautiful clothing.

These are lovely, Louis. When did you come out with Whisper Knit? I love it and have many, many pieces but am flummoxed by what actual year they premiered.

I’m not sure either Loretta. I guess as I go through my archives I’ll see them….however, I did do sweaters in the yarn before we named them “Whisper Knit”. The name only came after so many of you loved the yarn and the sweaters kept reordering so I’m not sure I’ll recognize the first ones.

I still have the sweater set in lavender. I love it!

Beautiful holiday collection! It amazes me the buyer would insist on pale colors for the Holiday Season. Only goes to prove they had no clue as to the choices they were making. Considering your years experience with the retail market why would they even second guess your opinion. Makes me wonder how much experience QVC buyers have and how well they know they know the market especially on upscale designs. Delighted that you were proved correct and your knowledge was right on target. I have no doubt this was not the only time you had to go through this with an inexperienced buyer……….Cat

I have to say it really wasn’t the inexperienced buyer who made the choice…..it was the merchandise director above her who insisted on the pastel colors. He felt they were very directional, and maybe they were but not for the traditional QVC customer who would not understand such traditional spring pastel colors mid winter. Of course they never would admit that they were wrong.
