Hyenas were a pretty common site. They weren’t shy at all, and the little ones came over to the jeep to bite the rubber…

They will find a very secluded place to set up their den where they will have their cubs. They want to ensure no other predator finds it. They will always hunt in packs and when they make a kill or find the leftovers from some else’s kill the laugh wildly. It’s true what they say about the laughing Hyenas! It’s not a pretty sound.
Welcome home!
The quality of your photos seems quite good, were you happy with your camera/phone? Did you use the iPad for taking photos or more for image storage? Any recommendations? Did you use the binoculars?
Looking forward to more stories, Alyce
Alyce, I just used my new Apple I phone that I got for the trip, but I’m having major problems. My phone is too advanced for my computer and so far we have not figured out how to down load all of the pictured and videos. I can’t even post the videos on Facebook, so i may have out smarted myself! I even called Apple Help and really didn’t get far after they tried many things. It may be my old computer. Now I don’t know if I can do my Facebook live segments!
Well that explains the format change. I’m glad to learn that the quality of the photos is not the problem!
Thanks for all these great stories, and the great explanation .
Nice pictures! When I was a teen, we went to Great Adventure “safari” in New Jersey. Of course totally different, but we were told don’t stop the car and don’t get out. What are the rules on a real safari?
You are safe in the jeep even though it’s completely open and none of the guides had any guns. They say the animals are used to seeing these big metal box like things and haven’t ever attacked one, but in my mind I kept thinking, “there’s always a first time!”….You never get out of the jeep unless the guide says it’s OK and that’s in a clear area. We did have to take some bathroom breaks in the bush, and even Carolyn, a wonderful French girl that was with us, went behind a bush! We did go out of the jeep for drinks and little things to nibble on, but that was always in a clearing where you could see everything. At night we had to be escorted to our rooms just in case an animal was about. They had big flash lights and aimed them at the bush off the path. I only saw elephants blocking our path during the day, and I told them to get out of the way…I was off to breakfast, and after a few minutes they would leave, and I would pass….always with one eye on the elephant!.
Makes me feel like I am visiting Africa myself Thanks for your blog!
