“THE BRIDE & GROOM”

………………..When we got married in 2000 we bought the “Bride and Groom”, and the “wedding Ring” ornaments. They always get a special place in the front of the tree. The Mermaid and the Fish and Seahorse ornaments are our ode to the sea……There are many Egg shaped ornaments too. They are very ornate and look like Faberge……The clear glass “Star Snowflake” with it’s delicate linear work that looks like icing….was one of our earliest acquistions….it too was from Denmark .

How spontaneous and what fun! Not to mention memorable. My husband and I had the big bash. My favorite elopement story was when two close friends called my husband and I and asked us to accompany them to Tahoe (in the winter) to be married.
My husband and I rushed to a bakery and had a small wedding cake made, bought some champagne and glasses and we were off. We picked up the couple and arrived in Tahoe late at night. We found the name of a Justice of the Peace and after a drink or two headed to his home. It was past midnight when we arrived. When the Justice didn’t answer his doorbell…the groom in waiting threw rocks at his second story window. (Clearly we had seen too many romantic movies). After a bit, the Justice of the Peace opened the window and shouted “what do you want”? The groom shouted “we want to be married.” The answer was…
“Get the F off my property.” The next day, we found a well rested, friendlier Justice of the Peace and our friends were married. We were told by the Justice of the Peace to leave town immediately as a big storm was hitting at any minute and we might not be able to get out of Tahoe. We left, and up on the pass it was snowing so hard that traffic was stopped. We popped the trunk, pulled out the champagne and cake. People from other cars joined us and we toasted the newlyweds and shared cake on the mountain top surrounded by strangers. It was so much fun!

Your friends wedding sounds great. We had toyed with what kind of wedding we wanted. We knew it would be small…maybe just champagne and hor d’oeuvres with family and a few friends in a small ballroom at the Pierre Hotel, but we could never decide….so when our friends suggested going to Vegas with them this was the solution we needed. We booked flights and a room where they were staying at the beautiful Bellagio hotel. When we got there we asked the concierge what we needed to do and asked for suggestions where we should get married, Jac wanted Elvis to marry us, but I said no…..I would never feel we were really married. He arranged “The Little White Chapel” which was very famous. We had to go down town for the license!…..This young girl was taking care of us, and I asked her if she had any questions…..she looked at us with this quizzical face, and said no…..and then she said with this southern drawl, “well….are you first cousins?” Jac and I burst out laughing! The next day we got married by Reverend Stone, and Andrea was my best man and Jean Pierre was Jac’s best man…..Then we went to “The Needle” to have dinner….very touristy! The next day we started our honeymoon which was a series of small trips and excursions……Hoover Dam was the first stop. We were one of the last to go on a tour of the inside of the dam itself before they stopped it worrying about terrorists…..We flew to the Grand Canyon in a 4 seat plane….Jac was scared out of her mind, but it was all great fun, and great memories. I have a short video of the ceremony somewhere. That and a boom box playing Here comes the Bride was all part of the package….and a super long WHITE stretch Limo with the Little White Chapple printed on the door. Jac was mortified when it stopped in front of the hotel to pick the 4 of us up, but I thought it was camp as hell….hey we were in Vegas. She wanted a black limo, but I told her in Vegas they only use black limos for funerals!…It all turned out perfectly….Feb. 3rd 2000…..Great memories!!!!!

How did you and Jac marry? Quiet personal service – big affair like your Mom and Dad?

We actually got married in Las Vegas at the “Little White Chapel”. Our friends Andrea Pfister and Jean Pierre Dupre were going there for a show show. Andrea was a well know shoe designer in Europe and at very high end stores in the US. I worked with them for years on the Anne Klein Shoe collection and I visited them twice a year in Positano where we worked in his villa on the collection. Jac would sometimes meet me there, and we would go off some where afterwards. Anyway, Andrea said, “why don’t you two come to Vegas with us and get married ….we will stand up for you”. Jac and I looked at each other and said YES!!!! So off we went. It was a quick decision!!!!It was just the 4 of us and then we went off on our honeymoon. We surprised everyone!
