“Life is Full Of Adventures”

Jac and I consider our lives together an adventure……some GREAT….some Good…..and some…not so. Well this past Friday evening we had an adventure that was not so. The evening started off great. We went into the city to meet a  dear friend from LA…..Robyn….you remember the Robyn shirt….Since she was flying out early the next morning we had an early dinner at Le Colonial on 57th street. It always a beautiful place to go. We had a lovely dinner, great conversation and finally the evening ended. We dropped her off and we were on our way. The President was in town and there were many roads blocked off, but we chatted our way to the New England Thruway. We made great time and at 9pm we were literally two minutes from our home. We were heading down the main  road and coming to a curve. Out of no where were TWO HEAD LIGHTS COMING STRAIGHT AT US! Yes, some one was driving on the wrong side of the road SPEEDING on  a thirty mile an hour street……coming straight at us. I couldn’t even get the curse words out of my mouth as I turned the wheel of my car to get out of the way of the on coming car when BAM…..the car hit the passenger side of our car, spinning us around, air bags going off!! After I checked that Jac was OK and had nothing broken I got her out of the car as quickly as I could. She had to get out from the drivers side as all of the doors on the passenger side were crushed and could not be opened…..the wheels were sticking out, totally broken off the car like a cartoon……I went looking for the driver of the other car……but I didn’t see it????? It bounced of my car from the impact and was on someones lawn. At this point all of the neighbors were out of their houses, the fire engines were blaring and the police and ambulance were on their way. The driver of the other car was a young girl about 20-25 and DRUNK. A half bottle of cheap whiskey was found in her car. This investigation is on going. As of this writing the accident report isn’t avail yet, but I have been told this is quite often the case with drunk driving accidents. The bad news is my car was totaled…..the GOOD news is we are basically OK. Jac’s  right side is black and blue and she has a stiff neck, her blood pressure went through the roof and hasn’t been sleeping well, but that’s to be expected when you see two head lights coming straight at you.  She has been checked out by the doctor and I’m seeing one today because I jammed my knee and it’s been pretty painful. All in all…..we are lucky to be alive…..Oh yes….the STUPID girl who was arrested…we think….was driving a VW and walked away unhurt. She should thank me for having my wits about me and swerving away in the nick of time avoiding a head on collision or she probably would have been dead………As I said life is an adventure…..some are GREAT and some ……..not so……………….now I’m car shopping……………………………as I always tell my family and friends….”WATCH OUT FOR THE CRAZIES, there are millions of them out there!!!”………….be well and God Bless……….Louis

    Dear Jac & Louis,
I am so glad that you are both OK. It could have been so much worse. You are both in my prayers for a speedy recovery from your bumps and bruises.
Rest, my friends and have a wonderful Thanksgiving. You both have much to be thankful for. Bless you,
    Di

OMG, Louis! I was out in California all week on business and no time to go online for personal things, so I missed this posting. How horrible for you and Jac but so relieved that you both are alright. This is the second time a teenaged girl hit you—I recall the rear ending you got and your head hit the windshield—she was “texting” as I recall. I’ll be saying prayers of thanksgiving that you and Jac were not harmed.

  3. Belle Femme

I’m sorry to hear about your accident but am very glad you were not seriously injured. Thank goodness you had the presence of mind to swerve to avoid a head-on collision! I wish you and Jac a speedy recovery! Please rest and get well soon.

  4. Grace

Louis, I just want to add my best wishes to you and Jac. What a terrifying experience and a blessing you walked away from the accident. I hope you both take time to heal–a event like the one you’ve been through takes its toll physically and mentally. Enjoy your trip to sunny California. Be well and happy trails:)

  5. CGee

Nice driving, Louis! Grateful that you were both not hurt even more seriously….

  6. Jackie

You and Jac were very lucky and your quick reaction and thinking helped avoid a worse result. Your attentive driving is a lesson for us all.
I hope any aches and pains are temporary and recovery is swift!

    Louis and Jac,

Just saw your post this morning. I’m so glad you are both okay. Today and tomorrow you will be feeling pretty rough. That’s what happens after such an impact or a bad fall. Once your adrenaline, which had spiked during the incident, begins to drop, the aches and pains become more pronounced, but that will subside in a couple of days, too. Rest and baby yourselves. You know we would be devastated if something happened to you two. Thank goodness for your quick reflexes!

Love and gentle hugs to you both,

    Julia

  8. Joan E

Dear Louis and Jac, I’m sending love, hugs and prayers your way. It’s good that you are both seeing doctors, minor pains can be real injuries masked by the adrenalin of the moment. That happened to me when I my car was squished between two trucks; the one behind me failed to stop.

If you drive far enough north in California you can visit one of my favorite romantic getaways; Mendocino. I hope you both have a wonderful trip, and heal quickly. It is so fortunate that you have time away from QVC now.

  10. Lynn

Thank God your injuries weren’t worse! I pray you both feel better soon. Hugs and prayers for you both.

  11. Celia

    Dearest Louis and Jac,

I am just SO glad you are being taken care of. My prayers are with both of you in your recovery. Thank God you had your wits about you, Louis! Still I am so sorry that any harm came to you at all.

    Love, Celia

  12. TourEiffel

    Dear Louis —

That’s quite a story. Under the circumstances it could have been so much worse. So happy you’re here to tell us about it! But very sorry about the injuries you and Jac sustained. You’re both in my prayers for a complete recovery. Once you’re physically better, hire a good attorney who can pursue all claims (against insurance companies and driver) to which you are entitled. In the meantime, take good care!!

P.S. how could we forget the Robyn shirt? An all time favorite that many of us wish would return!

  13. WNYGal/April

Everyone is very relieved that you are both alive & that neither of you has any serious injuries, but when an accident like this happens, it’s always such a shock. Those of us who live in high-density areas like the East Coast corridor know that this can happen any time – my husband gets clipped nearly every day as a pedestrian in DC by inattentive & careless drivers – but it sure doesn’t change the emotional impact of the actual event, does it. Plenty of rest, good insurance, & that looked-forward-to vacation will definitely help, & who doesn’t want a new car? And a sense of humor is so important. We can’t control the behavior of others, only our reaction to it. Be well.

    Louis,
I am so glad that you and Jac are OK. I do hpoe that there are no lingring physical ir mental issues from this accident. One of my family members had nightmares for half a year after experiencing a similar situation.
    Good luck with car shopping!

  18. Judi

    Dear Louis and Jac-
All of my best healing wishes and prayers to you both. How frightening! Please take care of yourselves and each other. Thank God it was not any worse.

  19. Mary

    Dear Louis and Jac,

Thank God you’re both okay. Please take care of yourselves while you heal.

As a mother, I’d like to shake that girl and scream, What were you thinking?! I hope she isn’t able to get behind the wheel of a car until she’s gotten the help she needs.

  20. Goldie76

    Dear Jac and Louis,

I am thunderstruck by this horrific news, but I am also thankful that you two are alive. Yet another young driver has caused you harm! Unbelievable. I recall the incident in California when you were visiting a friend there, and a young girl crashed into you while foolishly texting. God bless both of you. Even though we (your admirers) are unknown to you and do not speak to you two in person, we feel a certain closeness to you. Heal. So glad you have a vacation lined up, and I hope you are both well enough to go.

    My best,

    Goldie

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

We’re going back to LA and Malibu then up the coast…..no way to avoid the roads!

      1. Goldie76

Drive defensively, Louis, and stay well (Jac, too!). The good thing is that you are aware that there are “the crazies” out there.

      2. Goldie76

Please drive defensively, Louis, and stay well (Jac, too!). The good thing is that you are aware that there are “the crazies” out there.

      3. Barbara in Virginia

Perhaps you can do your road traveling in a heavy-duty limo with someone else driving for a while?

  21. Karen in WA

I assumed you were busy or gone! Wow.
    God bless
    Love to you both

  22. Yvette

Oh Louis, what a terribly experience for you and Jac! Thank God that you were able to avoid a head-on crash. Please take care of yourselves as you both recuperate. You’ll be in my prayers!

  23. Jane

So sorry to hear this! Hope you both will feel better soon and won’t have any lasting effects. Good advice (from Deborah) about not waiting to get an MRI on your knee.

  24. Ellen

Hugs and best healing wishes to you both.

  25. Karlakaye

Unbelievably scary story, Louis!!! Thank goodness your reflexes were good or it sounds like the outcome could have been catastrophic. Take care of yourself and each other as you recover. I will keep you in my prayers and look forward to seeing you both totally mended and looking your usual fantastic selves on your next visit to the Q! 🙂

God bless you and Jac as you recover from this terrible accident.

  29. nyc1

This has been a TOUGH year.
I am so happy to hear that you are both going to be okay besides some bruises, a painful knee and just reliving that horrible accident in your mind. Thankfully for all, you had some quick reaction time and the ability to get mostly out of the way of a head on collision. Sadly, that drunk idiot will probably be back on the street ( or currently is ) and is very likely to continue to drive drunk. Let’s hope she doesn’t kill anyone.
    Wishing you both the best.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

I don’t think she will be driving any time soon. Besides her car being totaled, I’m sure her license was suspended for drunk driving.

  30. Wendy in DE

So sorry to hear this happened to you both, but very grateful that you are safe. Best wishes for a swift recovery. You bring such joy and beauty to our lives with all you do.

  31. Ann/Snicksters

I am so sorry to hear that this happened. I sincerely hope that you and Jac both heal fully and quickly and can be back on your great adventures together. I also hope the young driver has learned a very valuable lesson from this. Best wishes to you.

  32. Sallie

    Dear Louis & Jac………….
It is good….very good…to hear that you are alive, albeit, battered and bruised. Hopefully, there are no long term effects. The “book should be thrown” at this young girl….and any other drunk driver. First offense or not. In this day and age, there is no excuse. It usually is the innocent party that suffers.
When I didn’t see updates on your blog, I thought you were both on some exotic vacation….relaxing after your last FABULOUS show on Q. Little did I expect that you would have this kind of life-altering experience. Take care and heal completely. Hugs

  33. Sherry

So thankful to hear you two are safe and sound; hopefully nothing major pops up at a later date. What a horrible experience to have to endure…hugs and prayers are with you both.

  34. Renee

    Dear Louis & Jac:
I just read what happened to you both and I could not stop crying. Thank goodness you both are OK. When I go to Church tonight for All Saints Day mass I will be lighting a candle for you both and I will be keeping you both in my nightly prayers.
Be safe God Bless Renee from Cleveland

  35. Seka

    Louis and Jac,

So glad to hear that you are OK and hope that your aches and bruises recover quickly. You are both very LUCKY!

    Sincerely,
    Seka.

    Dear Louis and Jac,

God was with you last Friday evening. Love and prayers to you both.

    Louis & Jac:

I am so very thankful that this accident turned out as well as it did. Things can be replaced, not so with people. May God continue to keep you in the protection of His great hand.

  38. Nancy (smilesalot)

What a dreadful experience for you both!
I hope your knee heals quickly and that Jac’s bruises go away soon. I know the memory won’t soon be out of your heads.
Thank God you are alive and at home.
    Relax and feel better soon.

  39. Deborah/upallnight1

Thank God you are both alive and were not hurt any worse. Sending prayers your way. I’d recommend an MRI on your knee. Better to know now exactly what is wrong, than to think it will heal and end up needing an MRI months later. (Voice of experience. I’ll spare you the story.) Insurance companies are much more likely to pay for diagnostic tests and treatments done close to the date of the accident. They are known for fighting payment if someone waits even a short time, even if they are just waiting until after a holiday weekend when experienced staff is back at work (again, voice of experience.)

I’m glad you both have a vacation planned and don’t have to travel to Philly for nearly two months. You two deserve all the R & R you can get!

    All the best,

    Deborah

Bless your hearts. Said a prayer for you both…and for the thoughtless, immature young woman who obviously has major problems. May she straighten out her life and never take another’s life.

    Take care,

  41. Susan (aka Carly Twila)

Oh I am so sorry to hear this, Louis. It makes me fit-raving mad to hear what this girl did to you. I am so happy to hear that you’re both ok, albeit sore I’m sure. I hope you heal quickly and have no lingering annoyances from this. Time to start looking for a Volvo or equivalent ‘tank’ for evening jaunts to the city.
    Love to you both,
    Susan

  42. Rita Conley

My thoughts and prayers are with you both for a speedy return to your normal lives.

  43. Waterbaby

    Dearest Louis:
As I was reading your story, I was so saddened yet so uplifted. You are right, that we must protect ourselves and our loved ones from those who don’t want to be responsible. Please know that I will keep you both in my prayers for a full and speedy recovery. And, that the Lord will continue to hold you both in the palm of His hand.
    Blessings, Fran

  44. Cathy in PA

Oh, you poor dears! So very sorry this happened to you, and so very glad you are not hurt worse!! Take plenty of time to rest and recover; hugs to you both, and special hugs to Jac. I hope you both feel better quickly.

    HUGS, Cathy in PA

  45. Jules

Louis, reading your post made me realize how silly we get over things like hem lines and sleeve lengths. Thank God you and Jac are okay and were not critically injured and as far as the other driver goes, all I can say is: Typical! I think we’ve all had our instances where the guilty walk away free and the injured suffer. An abundance of blessings to you and Jac and I hope you both take it easy for the next few weeks. I’m so, so happy that you survived to tell this tale.
    Much affection,
    Jules

  46. Debbie M

Thank God you are both OK. My sister lost a good friend two weeks ago from a car accident. We are not sure if the driver that caused the accident was sober or not. Is it time for that nice long vacation yet? Sound like you both could use it….HUGS!

  47. Chris/Jazzmom

Wow, Your guardian angels were watching both of you!! As is usually the case, the drunk driver rarely has life threatening injuries in car accidents. Hope you and Jac feel better soon. Your bodies are in shock now and you will probably feel worse before feeling better. When I was in my 20’s I survived a rear end collision by a drunk driver who didn’t stop at the red traffic signal. My VW was totaled & I ended up with a mild whiplash thanks to the high backed seats on my car (which broke on impact!)

    Gentle hugs to you both,
    Chris
