………………………The ART DECO PATTERNED DRESS, A259946, will be presented on my October, 27th, 1:00pm show. I love anything “ART DECO”……. According to Wikipedia….”Art Deco first appeared in France after WWI, and began to flourish internationally in the 20s, 30s and 40s before its’ popularity waned after WWII.The style is often characterized by rich colors, bold geometrics, and lavish ornamentation. During its’ heyday Art Deco represented LUXURY and GLAMOUR.”……When I think of Art Deco I think of the top of the Chrysler Building in NYC….with it’s Arcs all LIT UP in the night sky…….I truly don’t believe we have ever achieved the beauty and glamour of that period …..in all areas of design….Architecture, Furniture and Furnishings, Cars, Jewelry and Clothing….an on going inspiration……….a time gone by, but never forgotten………………………..
…………..This dress is my ode to Art Deco. The swirling pattern with the pin dot background is very reminiscent of that period. The fabric is a knit, very similar to the flame stitch fabric. There are PIN DOTS of lurex that glisten when caught by light…..like the Chrysler Building. The fabric is 87% nylon/8%metallic/5%spandex. The back of the fabric is silky smooth and the skirt portion of the dress is lined. There is a back invisible zipper, but some of you may be able to put it on over the head without opening the zipper….if you choose. The cap of the sleeve has shirring for a very feminine almost 40s look. The bottom of the sleeve is finished with shirring and a loose elastic. The neckline has a jewel shape……The dress skims the body, and then flares out and drapes at the hem creating a beautiful MOVEMENT. The XS dress measures approx 43 1/2 inches long…..The dress is sized S,M,L…This dress should not be limited to the evening only, though it certainly can be worn on dressier occasions…I think it can be appropriate for the office, depending on your position and the type of company. It is appropriate for a luncheon or a special dinner out…any occasion when you just want to look extra special……Certainly, with the Holidays soon approaching…..this would be just the right thing to slip on and go…..I see this dress worn with my new BLACK SHEER TIGHTS and a beautiful pointed toe BLACK SUEDE PUMP…..or my……BLACK OPAQUE TIGHTS and a slender HIGH HEEL or MID HEEL BLACK SUEDE BOOT………If I were still making shoes, and price were no object, I would have made SWIRLED PIECES of Spruce Green Python with Black markings, done in an open work pattern, in a shoe boot design to emulate the pattern of the ART DECO DRESS……..I am offering one color in this dress…………and it is a combination of…….Black, Stone, Green and a cross between Mulberry and Fuchsia……………colors very typical of the Art Deco period…especially jewelry…I finish it off with a single strand of my 72 inch green pearls. I know this dress is certainly not for everyone, and that for me, is not a negative. It is for those of you who know and love the Art Deco style or for those of you who are simply attracted by the beauty of the pattern and the interesting fabric it was printed on……all in all….IMHO…..a winning combination………………………..enjoy……………..much Love…………………Louis
I love this dress! It will be perfect to wear to our 50th anniversary party the beginning of December. Perfect for Southern California weather. I can’t wait to get it and feel this intriguing fabric. I feel like you are my personal designer, I love everything you show. My aching credit card!!
Louis, you can design my shoes ANY day !
Thanks for the SPARKLE in a perfect Christmas dress.
Art Deco is my favorite period but hard to come by. I look best in jewel tones but look good in HG and navy. I suspect it’s very hard to get the colors right in a photograph. I know; I used to accompany a professional photographer to charity galas and was grateful that all the women wore black (and quickly learned that you couldn’t tell the price of a black dress!)
Are these colors muted? I passed on the flame stitch top because I simply couldn’t tell. I love the detail on the shoulder; I wouldn’t have to wear shoulder pads. Very feminine.
Muted is all relative…I do not consider them muted, but you may….the overall effect is “soft” and the little bit of sparkle gives life to the fabric.
What do you think of the dress with the hunter green WK cardigan? I’m thinking of this combo for the office, with mary jane pumps or black knee-high boots.
It looks great with the cardigan….and for those who own the black leather or my black suede jacket….plus my Spruce green zip front leather jacket…..they all work over this dress.
Absolutely lovely…will be one of my special dresses in my closet…Sorry if I am repeating myself can’t find my original question asking about when we will see faux fur for sale :))
thanks
sometime in Nov…..I haven been given the official word.
Very elegant. If one wanted to wear a blazer or jacket over this, which would you suggest? Perhaps the fuchsia herringbone A229475? Or maybe a cardigan? I’m not that big on black, but do have several of your black jackets, too. I would be wanting something warm enough to be “outerwear” for a SoCal winter.

Dear Carol…..the fuchsia seamed jacket does work over the dress as well as any black jacket. Leather and suede work very well to. The Spruce green leather zip front jacket looks wonderful and gives the dress an edge. Cardigans….yes
Quite striking…when you say the knit is similar to the flame stitch do you mean in the weight?
Yes…..and the fact that they both have the same fiber content and they both have lurex in them. They feel similar and they have the same stretch. They are made by the same fabric mill.
Yup, you did and I missed it. So sorry! 😉
Louis, what color is the pearl necklace in these photos? Blue mist or gray? Gorgeous with the dress!
Neither…they are dark green. I’m not sure, but I think they are sold out? Black jet would look just as good.
Gorgeous!!!
Pretty, pretty!
Can you expound on the subject of the sleeve, please? Does the elastic create a bracelet length on a full sleeve? Not tight? etc.
Love Art Deco & seek out the Chrysler Bldg. upon each visit to NYC. Also enjoy the streamline Deco of Miami, but only in Winter.
It’s a long sleeve, and instead of the elastic gripping your wrist tightly. it is loose around the wrist.
Louis, this dress enchants me. Lovely in a beguiling way.
Beautiful dress! I am definitely getting one. What you wrote about the Art Deco period reminded of the photos of the beautiful dresses, pumps, and, yes, hats that my mother wore to work in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Back then even going to work as a secretary was “dress up” time. Looking forward to seeing this presented for sure.
I love this dress! It will add the right amount color to my normal black, blue or gray color palate. I am counting the days to the show.
Stunning!!! Can you give us approximate length measurements?
I believe I did…..it’s approx. 43 1/2 inches for the XS
