“THE BLACK TOP & SKIRT”

dress5

…….There was a time………when I was the only one doing “sneak peeks”…..I do believe I introduced that phrase to the Q…..maybe not, but it  seems that way to me……times  have changed…..now I’m getting scooped……it’s all good……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Since these two pieces have already been posted on my QVC LINEA site there is  no reason to save them for my FINALE!……………………THE TOP, A262453, and THE SKIRT, A262454, are both made in a new                     fabric for  Linea…..which is called….MOSS CREPE. It is a 96% poly/4% span blend. I have just recently received a new Neiman’s spring/summer catalog, and you will see many DESIGNER clothes with this same blend, and costing over $1000. They may use different names for the yarns like elastane, but a rose is a rose….As I always tell you….”they’ve come a long way baby, and it ain’t what it used to be”, and these new fabrics are not cheap… Describing fabrics is always difficult……It’s like the blind man unknowingly being led to  an elephant, having him feel it and then guessing what it is. Moss crepe has been available in Europe for  years.  Donna and I used it at AK,  and she still does.  The surface is almost smooth, but it does have a very slight texture….hence the “Moss” and the “Crepe”. I would liken it to the rayon/span jersey….the Moss Crepe might be slightly heavier. It has LOTS OF STRETCH, so there are no worries about that. The top has a short sleeve and a V-neckline….I know, like Goldilocks, some will find it too high….some just right. If you think it’s too low, and needs to be raised….then what you really want is a crew neck….LOL……The top has an asymmetrical hem. The front measures approx. 25 inches to the center front from HPS,  and the sides are approx.29 inches to the point creating a hankerchief effect. Due to the drape of the fabric….it is very graceful and feminine…..almost a peplum look, but no shirring. What you can not see in the photos are the seams that are used to create the shape. If you have the print dress from fall with the dots of lurex, A259946, this top is constructed in a similar way, and has a similar fit. There are body seams from the shoulder to the hem creating a front panel. Then there is a horizontal seam, near the waist, that goes from the seam of the panel….all the way around the back to the other side of the front panel……..The front panel is CLEAN without any seams. This seaming gives the shape to the garment. The shape is easy, but still has a fitted look….Read the measurements carefully, because some of you may want a very close to the body fit, and decide to size down one size, others will want that little ease and buy their normal size….DO NOT size up. This top should not be loose or baggy. For my plus ladies I think you will be pleasantly surprised just how flattering this top will be. Buy your normal size. The neckline is finished with a one inch facing, or frame, which gives the top a more finished, upscale look. For me, this is dressier than a piping, which I also like as an alternative for certain garments. This is a top that you can wear for any occasion. Casual or super dressy. What bottom you chose, and what accessories you select will make all the difference……………………THE SKIRT is PULL-ON, and as I said has lots of stretch….even the top band which is approx 1 1/2 inches wide has lots of stretch……no need for a zipper……It has a very clean top so garments worn on the outside, like the matching top, stay smooth….The skirt is LINED in my tricot knit…..not for see through purposes, but just for that added sense of security when you are wearing it. The fabric is by no sense flimsy or thin for this TYPE OF FABRIC, but it is always a more expensive feeling when a skirt like this has a little weight…..otherwise you feel like you are wearing nothing…….For those of you who have been dreaming of a BLACK FEATHER JERSEY SKIRT……..I think this will make your dream come true…..See, I’m like an elephant….I don’t forget anything!…..if only that were true….LOL…..All other measurement are already posted on the Linea QVC site….Oh yes……the COLOR IN THE PHOTOS IS…………………BLACK…………………..enjoy……………….much Love……………………..Louis

I have the black & white one in that floral print and I wear red jewelry with it (red coral stones). I even have a red patent leather belt I wear with it if desired.

Imaging me today strolling through my backyard in that dress, clipping roses for an indoor vase.

Wish we could edit our remarks, this was meant to reply to Sheesh’s feather jersey maxi dress comment.

Louis, I love the look of this top and skirt. It’s perfect office attire. But I am larger chested and a bit worried that the seaming that runs down the front of the top may emphasize an area that I’m trying to deemphasize. I would love your POV on how this top may fit those of us who are larger on top (and smaller on the bottom). Thanks! Best of luck with the upcoming weather. I hope that you and Jac are able to stay cozy and warm as the snow falls outside.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Michele…that’s a hard call, but I don’t think the seams will emphasize your chest. If you are hour glassed shaped I think it can look good….not being able to see you makes it difficult to judge.

Louis, thanks for the quick response. I am going to order the top and skirt. Hopefully, they will work with my body shape. I’m looking forward to your shows later this week.

Comparing mosaic tile skirt and moss crepe skirt….I originally ordered the mosaic tile skirt in medium and was too large; sent back for small and small is perfect. I ordered the new moss crepe skirts (3) in small and delivery is scheduled for Wednesday so I will review on the forum as soon as I can (since your shows are on the 30th). New fabric; have to start somewhere.

I bought both the mosaic and the sequin skirt in small and love the fit so ordered this one in small too. Received today and the fit is very similar. I’m going to measure this when I get home because from the fit, it doesn’t seem two-inches smaller as the “click here” garment measurements indicate.

      1. Louis Dell'Olio

I asked my production person and they said 1 inch difference and the moss crepe has much more stretch than the mosaic print skirt, which is true. I think women should buy what they always buy don’t you?

        1. Kate

Yes, the fit is identical to your other stretch-fabric skirts. I bought my true “skirt” size in Linea and the fit is exactly right.

    2. Happy Lady

I reviewed on the forum but doesn’t seem anyone read. I received the small bottoms and there is plenty of stretch and such a nice waist band. I would not suggest sizing up and with the nice stretchy lining there is no need to worry about seeing lumps and bumps. I went back and bought seconds in the black and navy. These are 4 season skirts and fabulous for travel. I am 5’6″ a length hits me at my knees. Perfect. Timeless. Love the tops also. I am busty and the seaming does not hit me the wrong places. I say “no twin peaks”.

Louis, The XS in the tile print skirt (A255181) fits me, but looking at the size chart for this new skirt, the XS is smaller than the XS tile print. The S in the new skirt is larger than the XS in the tile skirt. Unless there is a lot of stretch, thinking maybe I should buy the size S this time? The S might need to be altered. Thank you.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Someone just asked me this question…..I honestly don’t know what to say….my feeling is stay with the xs….there is a lot of stretch. I’ll try to find out more tomorrow

  5. Happy Lady

You had me at “elastane”. I have several items with fiber content listed as “elastane” but I never knew what it was; just knew the fabric was fabulous and expensive. Looking forward to moss crepe. Bought all the pieces. I know I will love this fabric and adore both skirt and top and all 3 colors. Question: do you think this fabric will work for pants; perhaps in the future?(Thinking white, ivory, camel, tan languid pants)

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

It’s the fancy European way of saying spandex or lycra which I believe are registered names in America…not sure about that.

  6. Carol

Are you saying that feather jersey mixes well with moss crepe? Or just that it is reminiscent of the weight of the fabric?

And don’t get me started on feather jersey wars as that was a complete miscarriage of justice! I do have a black feather jersey skirt and pants (my lips are sealed), so I’m wondering if they are compatible.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Carol….I’m saying, for me, I would put them together, but that’s me…I like the mix…others will hate it because the FJ has a slub and the MC does not….but don’t buy the Moss Crepe JUST to go with the FJ…you may not like it. The moss Crepe mixes well with ponte and gaberdine well

      1. Carol

I’m wanting the Moss crepe for itself, but glad to know it goes with FJ. Thanks!

  7. Becky

I Love my Feather Jersey pieces!

  8. Pecan Cookie

Others can do sneak peeks but none of them compare to the WOW of yours. I wasn’t interested until I saw these pics on your site. Thank you for all the work that goes into this. This is timeless.

  9. Judi

Love at first sight! I ordered the navy and black.
I’m hoping there will be many more pieces made in the matte crepe…will you share with us?!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Judi….the Moss Crepe is a trial…and it is a matte crepe which i did not mention. If it’s received well, then of course I will add it as a staple to the collection. What I don’t want is another Feather Jersey fiasco! I still love and believe in that fabric, but it taught me a lesson…..tread softly and don’t jump in with both feet. Even though I may love it, that doesn’t mean others will understand it’s beauty.

      1. Chris/Jazzmom

I was one who understood its beauty!! Not everyone likes Picasso but can admire the genius of his work. I am sorry that the feather jersey fabric was a no go as it was wonderful for our humid summers on LI.

      2. Goldie76

Louis, as you know so well, creating demands courage. Sometimes the world is not ready to receive a new look, a new thought. But you, the creator, have to put your ego on the line and take whatever follows. In time, the world catches up (not always, regretfully, but sometimes).

        1. Goldie76

How odd. Chris and I were working the same thought in response to your post.

      3. Judi

I was one of the firm believers in feather jersey. They are my favorites for the summer.I knew you wouldn’t lead us in the wrong direction. I’m hoping the matte crepe is hugely successful!

      4. Sheesh

I also loved the Feather Jersey pieces, although for some reason I didn’t buy them at first, I still managed to put together quite a collection of pull on Pencil Skirts, Tanks, Cowl Neck Tops, Hooded Tunics and Pants. I did miss the Smoke Pants, much to my regret. I love how they take up virtually no room in a travel bag and hand wash and dry in a flash. I never understood those “scorched earth’ reviews. It made me wonder if some of the reviewers had even received the products—seriously!

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Sheesh…it was a shock to all of us involved, especially since the Maxi dress that preceded it [the Hawaiian print] blew out and reordered. So why all of a sudden some threw such a hate on it was beyond us, and they frightened others from trying it. It certainly isn’t any lighter than other fabrics sold on QVC, and it actually is a better quality, and it doesn’t cling or pill…..You just never know.

          1. Sheesh

Louis, I adore the print Feather Jersey maxi dresses (I have the Black). Back from a day on the beach on Martha’s Vineyard, a shower, pop on the dress, a chilled glass of Pinot Grigio sitting out on the patio surrounded by a sea of blue hydrangeas—what’s not to like! After the snow here in Massachusetts today, I’m dreaming of the Vineyard…
