…………………..Jac loved the snow….the deeper the better……Jac was always the first one to get her snow boots on and out the door…..I was always a few steps behind!…..I remember the day she bought this white jacket, and couldn’t wait to show it to me! I thought it looked great, and I especially loved the white, as she did………Then she told me she got it at Cosco, a discount store….She was so proud of her bargain!

“DECEMBER 12TH, 2017”

……………………….On this day, December 12th, 2017, at 3:14pm in the afternoon….my Jac left me…….I can not believe five years has come and gone….It still seems like yesterday……I chose this picture because it was our first “official date” when we let everyone know we were a couple……..I always think I’m doing better, but don’t scratch too deeply…..the emotions and memories are just under the surface. I never know what will trigger them, but they are always there, and they always will be…..Sometimes I find them comforting, and sometimes they bring a despair that can not be described….There is a saying that goes something like…….”the greater the love the deeper the grief”……it’s absolutely true. I talk to Jac all of the time….it helps…….”one day closer my Baby….one day closer”…….This morning I woke to a blanket of white snow……Jac would have loved it.

“SMALL COLLECTIONS”

………………………Over the years Jac and I had accumulated small collections of things that we displayed around the house. Most of the items were birthday or Christmas presents. Everything on this table in the living room under the large picture window, which had belonged to  Jac’s mom, were Christmas presents we gave to one another over  time. The antique decanters on the silver tray Jac gave to me. The Victorian glass bells I gave to her. There is one decanter that sits at the corner of the table that is especially wonderful. It has a beautiful faceted round stopper, and just below the stopper and the lip of the mouth is a silver band. However, it is the silver overlay that surrounds the entire decanter that is magnificent. It depicts lotus flowers floating in water, and fireflies all in silver. There are spaces allowing the glass to show through as part of the design. That was a present I gave to Jac. What do you give to someone who has everything she wants, and wants NOTHING!……At the rear of the table are two very large and tall candelabra. It has ten candles on two tiers and hand wired crystal drops of different sizes and hand wired crystal flowers….some with individual petals all over it hanging from arms that extend from the center. The center has a series of different shaped glass pieces stacked one on top of the other until it ends at the top with a beautiful tall glass elaborate finial……Every year at this time there is a large antique show in Greenwich CT. Jac and I usually went “just to look”……One of the vendors had these two candelabra on display and my eye was immediately drawn to them…..Jac saw me paying TOO MUCH attention to them and came over and quietly said…..”no”…..I said…”I was just looking”….she gave me one of her “looks”, and she replied “Ok…let’s keep moving”…..Before we left the show I paid the candelabra another visit, and Jac said….”Lou….we don’t need them, and where would you put them, they are so big….come on let’s go!”….so back home we went…..I have to say I thought about them quite often over the next few weeks, and regretted not getting them……..You know the feeling when you want to kick yourself in the butt for not following your instinct and desire!…..Oh well I saved myself a lot of money!…….On Christmas morning, after our breakfast of our traditional Stollen, we let each other gather each others presents and put them under the tree. After we opened all of the beautiful gifts Jac said ….I have one more thing, but it’s on the sunporch….I thought what????? Out we went and there were two HUGE BOXES!!! At first I couldn’t imagine what was in them, and then I thought…”no she didn’t!!!!”…..oh yes she did!!!! She had secretly gone back to the seller, and told the vendor to hold the two candelabra and she would be back as soon as “I ditch my husband”…..Jac arranged for them to be delivered to our house the day before Christmas Eve when I  wasn’t home, and put on the sun porch which in the winter we really didn’t go into much…….I was shocked…They are still two of my favorite presents!!!!……She sure played me like a fiddle!……She often did!!!!!but I loved being played!

“COLLECTIONS CON’T”

……………….Here are just some more pictures of the Bells, Decanters and the Candelabra. I remember Jac telling me she bought the decanters at a fabulous store we both loved….James Robinson on Park Ave in NYC. It was opened in 1912 and the fifth generation is still running the business. It’s simply exquisite!
