“CANDID PHOTOS BY ROXANNE LOWIT”

………………………..After a show I would receive many of these sheets of photos to look at and choose from. I would sit with a loop [an eye piece that magnified the individual shots]. We used these photos for publicity, and the Look Books…There is a photo at the upper right of Polly Mellow, the famous editor of Vogue Magazine, planting a kiss on my cheek……She loved the show and had to come backstage after the show to tell me.

“REMEMBERING ROXANNE LOWIT”

……………..Through out one’s lifetime there are people who’s paths cross with yours……and then the roads divide and they are gone……Roxanne and my path crossed for some time and it was a fun time……Roxanne was one of a kind. A winning sweet personality who could talk her way into any party any back stage designer show that ever was…….”Lowit’s backstage candid portraiture of fashion extravaganzas defined an era of hedonism, joy and glamour”…… “She was a legendary photographer who provided an intimate look into the world of fashion”. Roxanne knew every designer, and was close friends with many of them. She freelanced for a slew of publications taking candid shots at shows, galas, and clubs. She could always be seen at Studio 54 snapping away. She showed a side of nightlife that most people never got a chance to see. She made iconic images of models, celebrities and the infamous…….I don’t remember exactly when we met, but there she was….I met Roxanne many many years ago when I first started designing at Anne Klein. She was always backstage at my shows taking fabulous candid shots of everything. She would be working for a fashion magazine, but many times we would hire her to take the photos for our own use…..whether they be used for publicity shots or used in Look Books…….I haven’t had the opportunity to see Roxanne for many years, and was so sorry to hear she passed away…..She was 80 years old to my absolute shock! Where have the years gone…….I will always remember her as a young, petite, soft spoken pixie scooting about snapping away………Rest in peace sweet Roxanne.
