……………………The fabulous DOUBLE BREATED A-LINE COAT came in a slew of FAUVIST COLORS! It was made in a CASHMERE and WOOL blend from Italy…….It had my signature GOLD NUGGEST BUTTONS that were plated in real GOLD……The stores had a hell of a time keeping some women from stealing them!!!! One garment actually had lipstick marks on it where a woman bit through the threads with her teeth to get the buttons off the coat!!!….Saks cleaned the coat and we replaced the buttons!!….This was a very good selling coat as it worked on all shapes and sizes, and the women LOVED the colors which were unique, and impossible to find elsewhere!………HAND KNIT SWEATERS were my specialty! I had a fabulous group of young women that worked for me that only worked on knitwear…..headed by a young woman named Fran Miskin…..I used to nick name her “NEEDLES”, because she was a wiz with knitting needles. Her hands FLEW!. She had a small cottage group of women who made the first samples, and the production was done by them or in ITALY depending on how many we sold and how complicated the sweaters were to make…….These three sweaters on ELAINE….YASMEEN…..and CHRISTY, I believe were made in AMERICA, because they were very complicate with all of the different stitches and patterns……Elaine and Christy were wearing boat neck tunics and Yasmeen was in a cardigan with the nugget buttons. They all had on matching turtle necks or funnels neck sweaters, made in ITALY, under the hand knits…and matching suede gloves, matching leggings and matching suede over the knee boots!……..I would LOVE to see young women walking down Madison Ave looking like this today!…………How much fun would that be!!!!………..I can’t believe this was over 30 years ago!!
